MERCY AND GRACE

Text : Heb 4:16    *Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.*  Mercy and Grace are two spiritual elements that all disciples of Jesus need in order to lead a successful Christian journey in this side of eternity. Now, these two elements are spiritual commodities which cannot be gotten on earth. *The only place you can obtain Mercy and Grace is at the throne of Grace.* To approach the throne of Grace however, you need boldness. No man has within himself this kind of boldness in approaching the throne of God except through Jesus Christ. This is why the verse opens with "let us therefore come..... " the word 'therefore' connotes that it was referring to something previously stated. So it's important we see the verse(s) before this our text: Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have no

DON'T SCARE AWAY THE CLOUD(2)

Text : Numbers 12:10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous* Aaron and Miriam, probably because they were older than Moses and being of the same parents thought they could rebuke him for taken a Cushite woman as wife. They thought they were at par with him because of the measure of grace they had also enjoyed.  They said, “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Hasn’t he spoken through us, too?” Numbers 12:2. This insurbodination from the siblings of Moses kindled God's anger and led to the dissappearance of the cloud from the tabernacle of meeting. Immediately the cloud lifted, leprosy came upon Miriam. This leprosy is the consequential effect of her sin against her brother who is now God's servant.   This scenario is pointing to the fact that God has not committed the rod of your leaders into your hands. While you have the obligation to entreat your leader

DON'T SCARE AWAY THE CLOUD(1)

Text : Numbers 12:10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous_  Have you ever wondered why the Holy Ghost had to *Kill* Ananias and Saphirra? (Acts 5:3-10). They simply told a A,'small' lie. Small lie? Yes, small lie! They did not steal money from the synagogue's treasury, they did not commit adultery with any church members, they did not even fold their arms showing _"I- Don't-Care attitude_ " towards the growing need of the church. They were only trying to selfishly help like Uzzar who tried to stabilize the cart carrying the Ark. (2Sam 6:6-7).The consequence of this 'smal'l lie of Ananias and Saphirra, and the "small touch' Uzzar was death.   The lie of Ananias and Saphirra can truly be looked at as small when compared to the prevalent evil and atrocities in our churches today. If church leaders were to call for true revival

STAY UNDER THE CLOUD

Text : Numbers 9:22  Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed . A song writer renders it thus: The cloud of glory is mov.....ing, let us move with the cloud, move with the cloud......_  I used to sing this song as a young believer but the import of the song came to me much later.   The Israelites never moved or journeyed from wherever they pitched their tent until the cloud moves. When the cloud stays, they stayed, when it moves, they move. Even if the cloud stays for 2days, the Israelites had to rest only for 2 days. The cloud of glory upon the Israelites simply indicated God's presence with them. Hence, they can't joke with it. Always keeping a watch on this divine cloud upon their tents. They must keep their watch when at REST or on the MOVE. They must surely have a team of people that have been cha

ETERNAL WASTE

Text : Ezekiel 33:8    *When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.*  Permit me to share an experience I had some years back with you. When I was in my final year in the University, I decided to read in a quiet, lonely class one day. Not too long after I got to the class, a popular cultist from my class also walked into the class, (The type that lecturers fear, the type that doesn't hide the fact that they are cultists).  Immediately, I received a nudging in my Spirit to witness Christ to him, but I whisked the thought away. Surprisingly, the guy walked up to me and tried to start up a discussion. I received the nudging again, but this time, I decided to be civilized about it. I told myself that I will let the discussion build gradually and introduce Jesus with time.  Long story short, I had two other contacts w

ANOTHER DIMENSION OF LOVE

Text : Mat 5:44  *But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;*  The demands of love in the new testament is far greater than what Moses commanded in the old.  What Moses commanded appealed conveniently to common sense but falls short of God's desires.  Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.Mat 5:43 KJV . It is only natural to love those who love you and hates those who hate you. But if you are in Christ, you are no more a natural being but a supernatural being or a spiritual man. Hence, you are being governed by another law, a higher law. You no longer walk after the dictates of the flesh(the natural laws) but you are now under the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. Rom. 8:1. This law of the Spirit gives us four dimensional angles of love as postulated by Jesus Christ Himself in Matthew 5:44. 1. *Love y

CHARACTERISTICS OF LOVE

Text : 1Cor 13:4. Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited.*  Love is not a thing, it is a being. Love is not so much about what we do, but who we are. I John 4:8 says God is love, so anyone who doesn't have God cannot truly love.  In reality, no natural man can satisfy all the characteristics of love as enumerated in 1 Cor. 13:4-13. It's only a man who has surrendered his life to God through Christ that can truly fulfil the demands of love.   *Love is patient :* One proof of patience in your life is how slow you are to getting angry. King James version of 1Cor.13:4 says love suffers long. That is, patience in this regard is your ability to suffer long (especially the inadequacies of men). Patience talks about your ability to endure without losing your cool and calmness.  *Love is kind :* The International standard Version of 1 Cor. 13:4 says love is ALWAYS KIND. *if it is love, your kindness wil

PUT OFF

Text : Col 3:8.  *But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.*  Every man is wearing garment in his soul, the difference is what a regeneratef man is wearing is or should be different from what an unregenerated wears.  As a matter of fact, when God looks at us, He sees us through these garments. Jesus mentioned some folks in Sardis who haven't soiled their garments.   *But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me in white clothes because they are worthy.Rev 3:4.* These people are worthy because they did not defile their garments.  Again, He said Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.Rev 16:15. So it is clear that a Christian is one that is clothed in garment which should not be soiled. Jesus is coming for a bride without wrinkle.  That he might present it to himself a glorious chur

LOVE 2

Text : 1Cor. 13:4. Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited, The book of 1 Corinthian 13 opens us first and foremost to what love is not. Ironically, many of what is seen as love in our world today is actually what love is not.  I believe that this love chapter started by explaining what love is not so we could have a right judgement of what love is.  1. *Love is not in words*: I may be able to speak different languages that people use. I may be able to speak languages that angels use. But that is worth nothing unless I love. 1 Cor. 13:1.(Easy English).  Love is not contained in words only. Many people (especially ladies) have fallen head over heels for fraudsters in the name of love simply because they were carried away by sweet words.  1John 3:18 gave us a stern warning on this. 'My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.' Beware, it's very proba

LOVE

Text : 1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. Valentine has become one of the yearly celebration that can hardly be ignored. Gift item shops would be witnessing a sudden rise in sales of gift items during this time. The atmosphere will be filled with all "manner of love", Yes! All kinds of love will be expressed during this time. The question is, do people really understand what Love is? If you really want to celebrate your loved ones at this time in a very meaningful way, it will be important you rediscover the definition of Love from 1John 4:7-8.  *1. Love is of God*  Wether you like it or not, from whatever angle you may be seeing it- love is not of the devil. It is simply of GOD. Anything short of God is not love. No matter how good and lovely anyone may project LOVE towards you, if God is not contained at the center therein, that is not Love. Love which pertains to God alway gives uncond

REJOICE

Text : 1 Thess. 5:16  Rejoice evermore. This is another short verse in the bible. The shortest verse in the bible is "Jesus wept" (John 11:35). I probably would think the next shortest verse to this is "REJOICE evermore."  So if we join the two verses together, it will read thus: *_Jesus wept, rejoice evermore_ .*  Halleluyah! Glory to God!!!  If JESUS has wept, then yours is to rejoice forevermore. As humans, living in this unstable and turbulent side of eternity, we are bound to face lots of challenges and difficulties. This verse is coming to the church in Thessalonians like an unconditional command- Rejoice evermore! In the summer, winter, autumn and spring you are to rejoice. When it's cold or hot, you are to rejoice. When you have and when you do not have enough or even at all, you are to rejoice. Whatever the situation you find yourself, God's word is saying to you: Rejoice! We have more reasons in the scripture asking us to rejoice for the spiritua

THREE KINDS OF MEN

TOPIC: THE SPIRITUAL MAN Text : Romans 8:6&7  *For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.*  Goats give birth to goats, Lions give birth to lions, Spirit give birth to spirits. John 4:24 says God is a Spirit. So essentially, God's children are spirits too. At new birth, power was given to you to become a child of God.  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:John 1:12. The transliteration of the word *'become'* in John 1:12 above means to begin to be. That is, that verse can be rendered - "as many as received him, to them gave he power *to begin to be* sons of God.  In other words, the end point of believers is to become sons of God. When you are God's son, then you are a spiritual Christian.  A Spiritual Christian is anyone on a

THREE KINDS OF MEN

TOPIC : *THE CARNAL CHRISTIAN*  Text : Romans 8:6&7  *For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.*  Simply put, a carnal Christian is a Christian who is carnal.  He is a believer who has remained as a babe in Christ. *And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.* 1Co 3:1.  This individual is controlled by his old sinful nature. He willfully says yes to selfish inclinations and no to the will of God. His obedience is to his natural appetites rather than to the things of God. The Apostle Paul encouraged the believers to go on to spiritual maturity. And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still no

THREE KINDS OF MEN

TOPIC : *THE NATURAL MAN*   Text : 1Cor. 2:14.   *But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.*  Basically, there are three categories of people in the world, viz : 1. The Natural man.  2. The Carnal Christian and 3. The Spiritual man.  Today, we shall be looking at the Natural man.  Majority of the people on earth are in this category. The unbelievers, the atheists, the Muslims, the Hinduists and just anybody that has not accepted Jesus as Lord and saviour.  The following are some of the features of a natural man : 1. *He cannot receive the things of the Spirit.* A natural man has no fibre to receive the things of the Spirit. The things of the Spirit is foolishness unto them. The unbelievers cannot understand how a person who died several years ago can have any meaning with the way they are living today. 2. *They have wrong sense of judgement*  The natural man

EXTREME PRAISES

Text: Acts 16:25-26 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them_ .  Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the jail were shaken, and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's chains came loose._*  While Paul and Silas went about preaching the gospel, casting out devils and healing the sick. They happen to deliver a girl of evil spirits.  This did not go down well with the people who were making merchandise of her life. They plot how the Apostles will be imprisoned, after they had unjustly beaten them. Acts 16:16-23. Eventually, they were imprisoned. Imprisoned for doing good to humanity. Imprisoned for obeying the commandment of God.  The most natural reactions to this injustice is bitterness, complaint and anger.  At best, if they have to pray, their prayer focus should be that God should deliver them and deal with their oppressors.  But against all odds, THEY CHOOSE TO P

DON'T BE A BACKSLIDER

Text : 2 Peter 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning_ . If you carefully read 1Peter 2:15-22, you will discover that God has a stricter judgement for backsliders. If you have been a follower of Hyper-Grace preachers; those corrupting God's Grace in their lives and that of their followers, I want to encourage you to check this scripture carefully. Though, God is a loving and gracious God, He is not an " *everything goes God* " Our God is a God of sure foundation and standard.(2Tim 2:19). He takes no pleasure in workers of iniquity and the backsliders (Heb 10:38). From the text above, we can clearly see that those preachers of *once saved is saved* *forever* are not in tune with the scripture. They are only misleading people that have itching ears. Such folks cannot endure and follow soun

VAGABONDS 2

Text : Gen 4:16 KJV   *And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.*  We established yesterday that worldy riches and class are no evidence that God is happy with you. Though they may be by-product of God's blessings, but they are truly no signs of God's approval. Today, we will see more of the features of a Vagabond in the light of God's word.  It will surprise you to know that everything Cain achieved in the physical, is an indication of what true blessing is not.  True blessing is not marriage, children, riches, affluence etc. All of these Cain had while living under a curse. All these are actually what the gentiles seek, Matthew 6:32.And all these are actually what God will add to you after you have received the main blessing. Matt. 6:33. *So for a child of God, physical blessings are just mere additions.*   *He who has God and everything else has no more than he who has God only.* C.S Lewis.  In Gen 4:12 God tol

VAGABONDS

Text : Gen 4:16 KJV  And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. The very first man on earth to be called a vagabond was Cain. (Gen. 4:14). Yet to a natural man, Cain doesn't look like a vagabond. According to the dictionary, a vagabond is One who wanders from place to place, having no fixed dwelling, or not abiding in it, and usually without the means of honest livelihood. This definition doesn't fit the description of Cain as we have it recorded in Gen. 4:17.   *And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.* Gen 4:17. Here, Cain had a wife, he had children, and he builded a city, not Just a house or an estate, but a city. This is a full definition of what people of this world refer to as Success.  As a matter of fact, the Bible gave us a detailed account of the "successes' of some of the children of Cain.

GULLIBLE BUT INTELLIGENT

Text : Mat 25:31-32  *When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:*   *And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:*  Have you ever wondered why Jesus compared His followers to sheep and not goats?  Sheep has reputation for being stupid, defenceless and harmless creatures that mope about on hillsides doing not very much. They are good for two things: being eaten and producing wool. According to a study by Keith Kendrick, he said in reality, Sheep are actually surprisingly intelligent, with impressive memory and recognition skills. They build friendships, stick up for one another in fights, and feel sad when their friends are  sent to slaughter. The truth is that sheep are far smarter than we know., All these reasons and more are the basis for Jesus' comparism of His followers with sheep. Below are more of th

AT YOUR WITS END?(2)

Text : Luke 5:5  And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net_*  Peter, having toiled for the whole night without a catch still finds grace to allow Jesus use his ship for the work of ministry. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.(Luke 5:3 ) Though Peter was at his wits end, yet he did not deny Jesus the privilege of using his ship as a platform for reaching out to others. Sometimes, when you are at your wits end, it is possible you become distorted and disoriented.  At the time Peter allowed the Lord to use his vessel(ship), he had not known so much about Him. At least he did not know that the Lord could miraculously help him catch multitude of fishes to a net-breaking point. You may as well need to give the Lord a space in your vessel(life) to

AT YOUR WITS END?(1)

Text : Luke 5:5  And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net_*  I can remember one hilarious moment when my little boy was trying to solve a particular problem and from the blues he just yelled " I quit" He said it with all sense of seriousness- "I quit" This boy passed a " *Quit Notice* " on himself. He gave up trying because he was tired of meeting walls and dead end. He didn't believe he could solve that particular problem again. After several trials and attempts, he quit.  While a child would boldly say and shout out his own quit notice, so many matured ones express theirs in different forms of emotions and attitudes- anger, hate, loneliness, isolation and withdrawal, depression, suicidal thoughts and attempts, moodiness, confusion, lack of focus, tiredness, fatigue e.t.c Are you at your wits end? Are you feeling like yelling "I quit" lik

ANOTHER ENCOUNTER

Text : John 9:35 & 36 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?*  He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?*  When the one-time blind man(from our passage) was questioned about his spectacular miracle, he boldly declared that it was Jesus, the righteous one who made him whole. John 9:10-11. As a matter of fact, he defended Jesus before the difficult, unbelieving Pharisees (something his parents were afraid to do) to the point that he was thrown out of the temple. John 9:24-34. One could conveniently conclude that this man believed in Jesus. But Alas! That is as far as it goes. This man only knew Jesus as a miracle worker and not for who He truly is.  But Glory to God that he had ANOTHER ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS.  Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Don''t you believe on the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is he, Lor

ONE THING I KNOW

Text : Joh 9:25 He answered and said, Whether he is a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, before I was blind, now I see.*  The story was told about a man who was blind from birth. He had lived in darkness all his life. Because of his condition, he had lived a beggarly life, always at the mercy of the unmerciful people. One fateful day, God decided to change his estate. He had an encounter with Jesus and his story changed. His eyes were opened and he could move about freely and fend for himself without being beggarly. You would think people will rejoice with him. But NO!  Typically, people prefer to pity your sorry state than rejoice with you when your story changed for the better.  People will rather give you 'peanuts help' and leave you in your downtrodden state, than see you lead a victorious life.  Such was the case of this blind man. Instead of rejoicing with him that a great miracle had happened to him, they rather chose to question his recovery and mira
