THREE KINDS OF MEN

TOPIC : *THE CARNAL CHRISTIAN*

Text : Romans 8:6&7

*For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.*

Simply put, a carnal Christian is a Christian who is carnal.

He is a believer who has remained as a babe in Christ. *And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.* 1Co 3:1.

This individual is controlled by his old sinful nature. He willfully says yes to selfish inclinations and no to the will of God. His obedience is to his natural appetites rather than to the things of God.

The Apostle Paul encouraged the believers to go on to spiritual maturity.

And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? (1 Corinthians 3:1-3).

A carnal Christian is no different from an unbeliever, the only difference is he is a believer. And every believer has the Holy Spirit in him, just that he is not following the leadings of the Spirit.

Romans 8:14 says for all who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s children. That is, to be God's children, you have to be led by God's Spirit. While an unbeliever does not have the Holy Spirit in him, a carnal Christian doesn't yield to the leading of the Spirit in him.

*The life of a carnal Christian is characterized by the flesh- the old sin nature.*

Another feature of a carnal Christian is lack of growth. Regardless of his age in Christ, he remains a baby who wees and poos on himself both secretly and openly. Imagine a ten year old child in this condition.

In the natural, mothers are advised to give milk exclusively to their babies for the first six months. After this, they are expected to start introducing more solid foods to the baby. Now, beautiful as milk is, if a child is left on milk longer than necessary, such baby will have a stunted growth.

The same principle operates in the Spirit. A babe in Christ needs milk to start him off in his Christian journey. But to remain on milk longer than necessary is to remain as a carnal Christian. To remain as a carnal Christian is to live short of God's plan and glory for you.

The carnal man needs the power of the Holy Spirit to break control of the old sinful nature. This is their only hope of attaining onto maturity.

The only way this carnal lifestyle can be changed is by allowing the Holy Spirit to take control.

*ALLOW THE HOLY SPIRIT TO LEAD YOU TODAY AND YOU SHALL GROW OUT OF CARNALITY.*

 *PRAYER FOCUS*

1. Ask God to forgive you in every way you have remained a carnal Christian.

2. Ask God for Grace to always follow the leading of the Spirit.
