SAY AMEN

Text : John 17:9  *"I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours."*  John chapter 17 is dedicated to prayer. Jesus prayed for his disciples and this includes you.  He said "...Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;" It is clear from the above that if you have believed in the Lord Jesus through your confession(word), then you are part of the prayer He made to the Father in John 17. It is important for you to know that *Jesus, our  High Priest had prayed for you, and He's still praying for you right now.*  Knowing fully well that none of Jesus' requests will go unanswered, you therefore need to stand in a position of Amen (Yes) to all the prayers He's made and still making for you. To say Amen is to simply believe that Jesus' prayers for you has already been answered. Saying Amen is also for you to start walking in the realities of these pr...

PERFECT PEACE

Text : Isaiah 26:3.   Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Let's look at some of the key words in our text : 1.) Perfect peace:First and foremost, this suggests that there are other kind(s) of peace.  And rightly so, Jesus told us that this world offers another kind of peace. He says: I am leaving you at peace. I am giving you my own peace. I am not giving it to you as the world gives. So don’t let your hearts be troubled, and don’t be afraid. (John 14:27, ISV).  This goes to show that  the world offers her own kind of peace, albeit the imperfect one, the one that brings troubles with it. The peace of this world is a temporal, short-lived peace. And it always come with many strings attached.  It is often said that when this world gives you a cap it collects your head in exchange.  Just pause and consider; aren't you giving more than necessary for the token you get in exchange?  *It is only...

THE KINGDOM

Text. John  18:36   Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. When Jesus Christ was born, the angels heralded the news of his birth to wise men. It was openly declared that he was born king. The wise men asked, “Where is the one who was *born king of the Jews?* We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.” (Matthew 2:2). So, anyone who is wise will know and acknowledge Jesus Christ as King. There's no King without a kingdom. So Jesus Christ came with His kingdom. And anyone who is in Christ is a member of that kingdom. However, the Kingdom of our Lord is not of this world. He Himself told us expressly in today's text that His kingdom is not of this world. This goes to show that there's another kingdom in this world that is different from the kingdom of Christ. While satan was tempting Jesus in the wilderness,...

BEYOND TODAY!-2

Text. 1King 11:11   Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done by you, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant. Looking at the life of King Solomon, with the level of wisdom God bestowed on him, it is clear that true wisdom is indeed in the fear of the Lord. Solomon himself said that  the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.(Proverbs  1:7). King Solomon in his wisdom, played great foolishness by marrying several strange women. These strange women turned his heart away from God. They brought in strange gods into God's temple. As a result, God declared judgement upon the household of Solomon. (1King 11:11-13). King Solomon's experience goes with the saying that says "Eat today, and your children will pay tomorrow". Solomon satisfied his appetite and his children and all his generation p...

BEYOND TODAY!

Text. 1King 11:11  Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, For as much as this is done by you, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant. You need to be very mindful of what you are doing with your today, as today will definitely determine your tomorrow. You must therefore chose to daily live with the consciousness of tommorrow in mind. One singular action of King Solomon led to the break up of Israel's kingdom. The Lord rent the Kingdom of Israel into two because of Solomon's disobedience. He took a wrong step which would later affect his children's  children and the whole nation of Israel.  The very first step King Solomon took, having been established in his kingdom was to pick a wife from the very nation that enslaved his ancestors for centuries. "And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the ...

BENONI OR BENJAMIN-2

Text. Genesis 35:18.   Just before she died, Rachel called her son’s name Ben-oni, but his father Jacob named him Benjamin. Jacob changed the name Rachel, his wife gave to his son, from Benoni, a child of pain to Benjamin, a child of my right hand. As a father, you have the right and power to change whatever evil name anyone has given to your child(ren). Even if it's your wife or mother (who has level of authority on your children) that pronounced a negative word over your child, it is your responsibility as a father to reverse it, and God will uphold your proclamation.  The problem is, a number of fathers are absent in the lives of their children. That's why a common teacher, neighbor, or even pastor can make evil proclamation over a child and the father will do nothing. You should ask yourself where was Jabesh father when his mother named him a child of sorrow (1 Chronicles 4:9). Don't be an absent father, be there to discharge your duty as God's mouthpiece over your ...

BENONI OR BENJAMIN

Text. Genesis 35:18.   Just before she died, Rachel called her son’s name Ben-oni, but his father Jacob named him Benjamin. One of the sacred roles God gave to parents is the privilege of giving names to their children. Unfortunately, many parents have abused this privilege. Today, we have children who answer to meaningless, useless and ungodly names given to them by their parents. God gave parents at least nine full months to think and pray for a name that their child(ren) will bear before they land on planet earth. Many parents however,( Some Christians inclusive) will have no useful name to give their wards except to name the child after the day of the week or after their grandfather or grandmother whose names has no bearing in God's agenda. I have asked many people for the meaning of their names and I've gotten many sorry responses. Some will say, " my Dad just like how the word sounds and he gave me as name," another will say, " oh, I watch someone in a movi...

RIPE, SWEET BUT SOUR

Text:Ecc 2:11.    Then I examined all of my accomplishments that I had brought about by my own efforts, including the work that I had labored so hard to complete—and it was all pointless, like chasing after the wind, and there was nothing to be gained on earth. We bought two water melon sometimes ago.  After we managed to finish the first one because it was unripe and not so sweet, we turned to the second one with a relief.  Seeing that the second water melon appeared fully ripe, we were excited about the sweetness. Quite unfortunately, on tasting the second water melon, it was sweet but sour. It has spoilt beyond what we could manage to eat. I will liken this ripe, sweet but sour water melon to Solomon's life. He wrote three books in the old testament. One of the books, songs of Solomon detailed his sweet life in love and romances, the second book (Proverbs) revealed his ripe wisdom and which gave general truth for living , the third  book "Ecclesiastes"...

THE GRACE

Text :  2 Corinthians  13:14.   The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen .  Grace is not what we share absentmindedly after a meeting, Grace is Jesus Christ, and without personal relationship with Him, you are not graced. The only one that is full of Grace is Jesus Christ. John 1:14 says And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. Verse 16 of the same chapter, made us to know that we received our grace from the fulness of His grace.   _And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace._ (John  1:16). So it's clear that without Jesus, you are graceless. Grace is the basis for the Christian faith. *For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:* Ephesians  2:8. God's grace is usually defined as undeserved favor. Grac...

A CHRISTIAN 2

Text. Matthew 5:16. In the same way, let your light shine before people in such a way that they will see your good actions and glorify your Father in heaven.” Have you ever wondered why you were saved and your brother or sister that you were exposed to the same gospel together is not saved yet? Why did God single you out among your siblings, friends, colleagues and within your neighborhood.? Why did you receive understanding to come to light and they did not?  Well, mercy attended to your soul. He says in Romans  9:15  that, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So you should be eternally grateful for the mercy you have received. Secondly, you were saved to bear fruit, so that through you, others will come to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. You are where you are today so that your light might show unto others for them to see the glory of God, and come to light as well. Jesus said in Acts 1:8 ...

A CHRISTIAN

Text. 1 Corinthians 13:2  If I have the gift of prophecy and can understand all secrets and every form of knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains but have no love, I am nothing. A Christian is anyone who lives for and behave like Christ.  *You are not a Christian because you go to church or because you answer a Christian name, you are a Christian because you are Christlike. We have many people today who answer the name Christians but who do not look or behave like Christ in anyway.  Expressly, Jesus says "You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"(Matthew 7:16).  Everyone around you will know who you are by your character and not by what you say or the church you attend. Our world is full of many professing Christians but very few practicing Christians. Note that, fruits are to be eaten by men and not by the tree itself. In the same way, men are supposed to eat of your good fruit and give glory t...

UNDER THE SUN-2

Text:Ecclesiastes 1:14   I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. Man was created to have dominion over all the creations of God. God Himself made this clear at the beginning in Genesis 1:26. _And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth._ When man fell, he lost this dominion. Man who was created to have dominion now survive by depending on the creations. Ever since the fall, man has been cultured to seek survival under the sun. God's original idea is that man should transact between earth and heaven. This explains why God always visits Adam before the fall. Man was not created to live only for the earthly things. We were created to bring pleasure to God.  Anyone whose life is preoccupied with the things under ...

UNDER THE SUN.

Text:Ecclesiastes 1:14   I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. Life under the sun can be very frustrating and daunting. To be under the sun is to be subjected to this earthly elements, rudiments, traditions and perspectives Anything and everyone that is limited to life under the sun will eventually end up in vanity and destruction. As a believer, it is expected that we live and see beyond the sun. Living above the sun is to live from the perspective of the heavenly. King Solomon, being the wisest king that ever lived, pursued and lived for everything under the sun. Afterwards, he submitted that all the works done under the sun are vanity and vexation. This will always be the conclusion of everyone that is not seeking to obey and follow God.  Life is meaningless when it is not lived with Godly and eternal perspectives. Though, King Solomon started out with God, but at some point in time, he lost touch with Him ...

VENGEANCE-2

Text:Romans 12:19    Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written,"Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. Today we shall be looking at David's life and how he refused to avenge himself even in the face of great assaults from his enemies. David had such a large heart that every believer needs to take a clue from.  David's heart  towards his enemies was reflected whenever something bad happened to them. While David prayed for deliverance from his enemies and God's judgement upon them, he never rejoiced whenever God avenged him. David always give place to wrath.  David's reactions towards King Saul's death and his son (Jonathan) revealed the depth of his heart.  When David heard  of the news, he  took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him. And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, ...

VENGEANCE

Text : Romans  12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. As at the time Apostle Paul was writing this epistle to the believers and the church in Rome, they were still experiencing peace. Hence, he was  using this letter to provide them with direction, guidance and encouragement ahead of the persecution which was to be brought to the church by Nero. Apostle Paul reminded the believers that vengeance is the Lord's. This was the Lord's direct declaration in Deuteronomy 32:35. Vengeance simply means revenge taken for insult, injury, or other wrongs received.  God does not want you to pay back evil for evil. It is God's prerogative to pay back anyone who has wronged you.  Apostle Peter also remarked about Jesus' reaction against people who reviled Him.  "...when he was reviled, he reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him...

YOU ARE THE SALT

Text : Matthew 5:13   You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Jesus did not ask his disciples to be the salt of the earth. Rather, He said, "you are the salt of the earth..."  A true disciple is the salt of the earth. Jesus however made us understand that one can loose his or her saltiness. And once that happens, then such one has become a good for nothing fellow, and  can no longer be salted by any means again. As a child of God, you are meant to discharge certain responsibilities on earth. You are to the world what the salt is to mankind. These responsibilities include:  1. Preserving the earth:As a believer, you are the salt of this earth. Hence, you are supposed to preserve the earth. You do this, by simply walking in obedience to God. When you obey God's commands, the earth is preserved from decay. Though, the ea...

TODAY

TEXT: Hebrews  3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin . TODAY is the only day in your lifetime that you  have to make the right decision; yesterday is gone, and tommorrow is God's.  God's word encourages us to exhort one another daily.  The reason for  daily exhortation is to prevent the hearers from being  hardened through the deceitfuness of sin. New Living Translation renders the text thus:  _You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God (Hebrews. 3-13)_ .  Sin has the capacity to deceive you and to harden your heart against God. Watch it! Today always come with the opportunities of hearing God's Voice. "Today" is the time frame in which the Voice of God is being heard for a walk in obedience. Your "Today" comes with a  command for you to obey.  To miss God's voice (c...

TRUST IS CAPITAL-2

Text: 2King 22:7   But don't require the construction supervisors to keep account of the money they receive, for they are honest and trustworthy men." So many are stranded in life simply because they have depleted all their 'Trust-capital'.  To break the Trust people have in you, is like breaking the pillars holding a house. In our text, account was not required of the construction supervisors because they were honest and trustworthy men. This goes to say that, they must have had a track record of honest dealings in the past. These men had wisely invested their 'trust-capital' in all their relationships. One of the benefits and dividends of their past faithful dealings with people was that account was not being required from them anymore. Whatever they do is received in good faith by all . No one doubts whatever they say or do. They have proven themselves worthy of unconditional trust by all. When there is a mistrust in any relationship, check it- there must ha...

TRUST IS YOUR CAPITAL

Text: 2 Kings 22:7   But don't require the construction supervisors to keep account of the money they receive, for they are honest and trustworthy men."  Trust is fragile like egg, once broken, it cannot be gathered together again. 'Trust' can either mean reliance and dependence; or it can simply means integrity. While the first 'Trust' which talks about your dependence and reliance must only be for God and God alone, (Jeremiah 17:5), the second 'Trust' is your currency for smooth and effective relationship with your fellow humans.  Trust is your capital for running a profitable relationship. Our text shows that  the construction supervisors of the temple were so trustworthy to the extent that account was not demanded from them.  The simple implication of this is that they were accountable to God. You must equally see yourself in the same manner; as being accountable and responsible to God in anything at all that you are doing. As a child of God, you mu...

THE DESTROYER

Text : John 10:10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly . Today, we shall be looking at the third mission of our arch enemy-the devil. Jesus made us understand that the devil has come to destroy.  Praise be unto God who has also sent His Son to redeem all humanity from the destructive power of the devil.  God is so powerful that He can restore whatever the devil has stolen, resurrect whatever he has killed and redeem whatever he has destroyed. For example, there was a man who once lived in the country of the Gadarenes whose life was redeemed  from destruction.  The scripture says, "This man had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him".(Mark 5...

A MURDERER

Text : John 10:10   The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly . Yesterday we looked at one of the three missions of the enemy in our world- Steal, Kill and destroy. Today, we shall be looking at the second mission of the enemy against our soul. The devil is a murderer from the very beginning. He is a killer. Jesus said that the devil is a murderer from the very beginning. (John 8:44).  Devil, being a murderer from the beginning killed Adam and Eve. Thereafter, he killed Abel through the instrument of Cain. The first death the devil brought man (Adam and Eve) into was spiritual death, and thereafter physical death in Abel.   Death can simply be defined as ceasation of  life. The very source of life is God, and He is the true living God from whom all living  emanates from. He is the one who has given vitality to all the living things on the face of the e...

REAL STEALING

Text : John 10:10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly . Basically,  the devil  has three main goals to achieve in this world : to steal, kill and destroy.  Today, we shall be looking at the first goal of the devil since he left his place in heaven. The devil is in this world walking to and fro, up and down to steal from all humanity; believer or unbeliever, rich or poor, black or white, young or old, wise or poor.  When you hear about stealing, what readily comes to your mind may be tangible things like your car, your house or your money. Yes! the devil does steal all of these, but the real thing he wants to steal from you is your very soul. The devil, who is a thief is out to steal away your soul in order that you may be missing in God's kingdom eternally. He does this stealing of your soul by stealing away the seed of the kingdom from your heart. ...

STAND IN YOUR PLACE

TEXT: 1 Corinthians. 7:20  Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called. John the Baptist knew how to stand in his calling. He knew perfectly well that he has been ordained to do just one thing- introduce Jesus to the Israelites. Do you know the one thing the Lord has committed into your hand? Then it will be great if you can stand in it. When the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem  to ask  John, "Who are you?" (John 1:19). The response He gave them revealed a lot about the humility of John, unlike many ministers and workers in the vineyard of God today. The scripture says, He.....confessed, "I am not the Christ." (John 1:20). You must learn to humbly accept and stand in your God's given place in the kingdom. If you have been called to serve, then serve wholeheartedly; if you have been called to lead; then lead responsibly, if you have been called to the ministry of help, then give help without expecting anything in return. knowing th...

LORD OF ALL

Text :  Matthew  22:37    Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. If Jesus had said you shall love the Lord thy God with your heart, soul and mind, the statement would have been correct grammatically. But He said you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Note that the emphasis is on the ALL. This presupposes that your  heart, soul and mind can be compartmentalised.  You can actually love God with some portion of your heart and reserve the rest to love someone or something else. As a matter of fact, when people say they love God, what they are actually saying is "I want God to be in charge of some stuffs in my life, but definitely not all." In Isaiah 42:8 God said, I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. God wants to be Lord in every aspect of your life...

BEHAVE WISELY

Text. 1 Samuel  18:14   And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him. In chapter eighteen of first Samuel, it was recorded about four times that 'David behaved himself wisely."  Let's glean some wisdom in this wise behavior of king David. At this point, David had already killed Goliath and brought victory and glory to Isreal. At this point, he was already a celebrity, the women were singing his praise and the men were talking very highly of him. Yet, he behaved himself wisely before them all.  Don't allow your achievements get into your head, the more successful you become the more humble you should be. Real success comes from God. 1 Samuel 18:14 says, 'And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.' The international standard version renders this verse thus,  _David was successful in all that he did, for the LORD was with him._  David was successful in all he did because the Lord was with hi...

FEAR

Text. 1John 4:18.   There is no fear where love exists. Rather, perfect love banishes fear, for fear involves punishment, and the person who lives in fear has not been perfected in love. Fear is a tormentor. It is specifically designed to torment its host. Second Timothy 1:7 says, For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Two things are clear from the verse above, - 1.) Fear is a spirit 2.) Fear is not from God. So, if fear is not from God, it's clear that it is from the devil. The devil designed fear to torment men. Unfortunately, a number of Christians are equally tormented by this spirit of fear. Man is harassed by fear of tomorrow, fear of the unknown, fear of loneliness, fear of neglect, fear of separation, fear of poverty, fear of death and the list goes on and on  Now, the big question is, "how do we overcome fear?" 1 John 4:18 says, perfect love banishes fear, for there is no fear in love. The spirit of fear will...

WAIT

Text: Psalms 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. Most times when Preachers talk on the issue of disobedience, one of  the ready-made examples they give is King Saul's inability to wait on Samuel before the sacrifice. Yes,  Saul disobeyed, but one other offence he committed was his inability to wait for Samuel as he had been instructed. As a matter of fact,  it was his impatience that led him to disobey. (Pls,  read up the story from the Bible reading given below). A number of times,  people miss the plan of God for their lives because they couldn't wait on the Lord.  Note that I didn't say because they couldn't wait at all, but because they couldn't wait on the Lord to the end. King Saul waited for seven days as instructed and he even waited for the appointed time but it was Prophet Samuel who delayed in coming. (1 Samuel 13:8). So to a natural man, Saul actually waited, but he couldn't ...

BLESSED TO BLESS-2

Text: Psalms 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. Yesterday we established that God has blessed us in order that we might be a blessing to others.  Today, we shall be looking at the kind of positive reaction that should emanate from you towards God as a result of the daily benefits He loads you with.  While God blesses His children with daily benefits, He equally expects His children to give Him glory in return. All that God desires to receive from the blessings He's sending to you is glory. *Returning all the glory to God for all the blessings you receive from Him is equivalent to blessing the Lord.* Hence, God has blessed you in order that you may bless Him. So, how can you bless the Lord if not by glorifying Him with all your being and resources. Everything that God has created praises and blesses Him. Psalms 145:10 says that, All your works shall praise thee, O LORD; and your saints shall bless thee. The momen...

BLESSED TO BLESS

Text: Psalms 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.  God's blessings upon His children is not  for fanfare; they are for His glory! Many Christians are yet to understand this simple truth in real terms. Though, in theory, many affirms this truth, but not in practical terms. For instance, God blessed Abraham both with his biological son (Isaac), and ultimately with Jesus Christ, so that all the families of the earth might be blessed in and through Him. (Genesis 12:3). Hence, the promise and blessing of Jesus Christ through Abraham was not just for Abraham, but for the whole earth. In the same way,  you must know that you are blessed to be a blessing, both to God and humanity. Whatever you are or have, it is by God's blessings upon your life.  In Apostle Paul's writing to the church in Corinth, he wrote thus: "...who makes you to differ from another? and what do you have that you have not received? now, if y...

TRUST

Text. Proverbs 3:5. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not depend on your own understanding . Many people have trust issues, and this is very understandable, we live in a world that is full of mistrust. Many are hurting, and many are wounded by reason of the trust they had had in others. The truth is, man cannot be trusted. How can you trust a man whose breath is in his nostrils? Isaiah 2:22 says, “Stop trusting in human beings, whose life breath is in their nostrils, for what are they really worth?” Jeremiah puts it this way-  This is what the LORD says:   “Cursed is the person who trusts in mankind, who makes flesh his strength,  and whose heart turns away from the LORD.(Jeremiah 17:5). That is, trusting in man only attracts curses to your life. Clear as this truth is, man still finds it comfortable to trust in their fellow men. At times, you go to bed just because a mere man had given you his words. It's very annoying and insulting to God to see how you...
