Text. Genesis 35:18.
Just before she died, Rachel called her son’s name Ben-oni, but his father Jacob named him Benjamin.
Jacob changed the name Rachel, his wife gave to his son, from Benoni, a child of pain to Benjamin, a child of my right hand.
As a father, you have the right and power to change whatever evil name anyone has given to your child(ren). Even if it's your wife or mother (who has level of authority on your children) that pronounced a negative word over your child, it is your responsibility as a father to reverse it, and God will uphold your proclamation.
The problem is, a number of fathers are absent in the lives of their children. That's why a common teacher, neighbor, or even pastor can make evil proclamation over a child and the father will do nothing.
You should ask yourself where was Jabesh father when his mother named him a child of sorrow (1 Chronicles 4:9). Don't be an absent father, be there to discharge your duty as God's mouthpiece over your household.
God told Abraham to change the name of his wife from Sarai to Sarah. So, as husband, you have the power to change whatever is not aligning with God's will over your wife. It takes a man who walks with God to hear what God has to say about every member of his household. Be that man.
Jacob wrestled with God until his name was changed to Isreal. A supplanter became a prince of God. As an individual, you have the option of changing whatever is not giving glory to God in your life. Just table your matter before God and He will answer you just as He answered Jacob and Jabesh.
