Text : Matthew 5:13
You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Jesus did not ask his disciples to be the salt of the earth. Rather, He said, "you are the salt of the earth..."
A true disciple is the salt of the earth. Jesus however made us understand that one can loose his or her saltiness. And once that happens, then such one has become a good for nothing fellow, and can no longer be salted by any means again.
As a child of God, you are meant to discharge certain responsibilities on earth. You are to the world what the salt is to mankind. These responsibilities include:
1. Preserving the earth:As a believer, you are the salt of this earth. Hence, you are supposed to preserve the earth. You do this, by simply walking in obedience to God. When you obey God's commands, the earth is preserved from decay. Though, the earth would certainly come to an end due to man's fall, yet its corruption can be slowed down by salt(Believers).
2. Giving taste to the earth: Salt gives taste to your food. So also is a disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ. Wherever you find a true disciple, there you will find true taste of God. If people around you can't taste God's goodness through your life, then your faith is questionable.
Colossians 4:6 says _Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man._ Your words show who you are. If your words aren't full of grace and salt, then you are not the salt of the earth.
A gracious life is a salty life. May you BE THE SALT OF THE EARTH INDEED.
