Text: Psalms 27:14
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
Most times when Preachers talk on the issue of disobedience, one of the ready-made examples they give is King Saul's inability to wait on Samuel before the sacrifice. Yes, Saul disobeyed, but one other offence he committed was his inability to wait for Samuel as he had been instructed. As a matter of fact, it was his impatience that led him to disobey. (Pls, read up the story from the Bible reading given below).
A number of times, people miss the plan of God for their lives because they couldn't wait on the Lord. Note that I didn't say because they couldn't wait at all, but because they couldn't wait on the Lord to the end.
King Saul waited for seven days as instructed and he even waited for the appointed time but it was Prophet Samuel who delayed in coming. (1 Samuel 13:8). So to a natural man, Saul actually waited, but he couldn't wait till the very end.
However, the instruction was for Saul to wait for Samuel to offer the sacrifice and not for him(Saul) to do it in his stead. (1 Samuel 13:11-13).
There is a huge difference between mere waiting and waiting on the Lord.
To wait in the natural sense is to remain stationary in readiness or expectation. For another, it is to catch up — or to hold back expectantly waiting for a chance. It also has to do with time, after a given period of time, you may be justified if you stopped waiting.
However, waiting on the Lord is centered on God and not you. It is not a state of inactivity, but a time of total reliance on all of God's instructions. It is a time to follow God's instructions whether it makes sense or not.
He that believes shall not make haste. Wait I say on the Lord. (Isaiah 28:16).
