FEAR IS A SPIRIT

TEXT. 2 Timothy 1:7.  *_For God hath not given us the spirit of fear: but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind_ .*  Man is quick in collecting stuffs that God is not giving, where as, he is slow at receiving what He is giving. One of the things God has not given us is spirit of Fear. He said He has not given us the spirit of fear.   *FEAR IS A SPIRIT. And it is not from God: it's from the devil.* Fear is an enemy of faith and will stop the power of God from working in your life.  Now, instead of Fear, God is offering us three things :  *1. Spirit of power:* Specifically miraculous power. That is, power for performing miracles. "And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.(Matthew 10:1). This power is only given to disciples, ARE YOU A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST?   *2. Spirit of Love* : *There is no fear in love,...

REPENT 2

Text : Mar 1:15.   *And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.*   *Salvation cycle is only complete when believing meets repentance.REPENT AND BELIEVE.*   *Any 'unrepented believer' is not only injurious to himself but to the whole body of Christ.* While Simon the Sorcerer was following Philip, he was believed to be a believer until situation revealed his true identity. Acts. 8:9-18. This is the true identity of anyone who is an unrepented believer : 1. *They equate money with spiritual things.*  Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money.Act 8:18.  *One thing that can conveniently compete with the space of God in your life is money. Beware of mammon.*  Jesus called both God and mammon Masters.   _No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will ho...

REPENT

Text : Mar 1:15.   *And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.*  According to God's order, repentance comes before believing. *Genuine believing is always preceded by repentance, your believing is faulty if not accompanied by repentance.* The reason for the many menace in our church today and by extension, in our society, is because there are many believers who merely believed in Christ but never really repented.  James 2:19 says You believe that there is one God. That’s fine! Even the demons believe that and tremble with fear. That is, *Anybody can believe anything, what distinguishes a believer in Christ is the fruit of repentance. Are you bearing the Fruit?*  Such was the case of Simeon the sorcerer in the book of Acts 8.  Prior to his believing, he was practicing occult arts and thrilling the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great. Everyone from the least to the greatest paid clo...

LIVING WATER

Text : John 4:10.  *Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, ‘Please give me a drink,’ you would have been the one to ask him, and he would have given you living water.”*  The word "living water" implies that there's dead water. But first let's look into what brought about the issue of living water.  The story of the Samaritan woman whom Jesus ministered to by the well is not only a popular story, but an instructive one.  The woman just like any other person on earth was simply on her own striving for survival before Jesus intercepted her. She was by the well of water trying to get water to quench her undying thirst. Note that *no human effort can fill the hollow and the void in man except God.* The more the achievements of man, the greater the void he feels inside. This sends him to greater quest of conquering greater feats. And the cycle continues, that is why it is referred to as 'rat race'.   *The only thin...

DEBT OF LOVE

Text : John 15:17    *These things I command you, that ye love one another.*  While hatred is like a forceful thief that is not necessarily welcomed into your home, love is a courteous visitor that you must intentionally welcome into your heart*   *Love is the only language that can be understood by every single person on the globe. Jesus' love can only be denied, it cannot be unheard or unseen.* If you genuinely know the love of God, you can speak to any people group in the whole world and they will understand you.    *Loving your brethren is never Jesus' opinion or advice but it is His command to you.*  You will never see it in any part of the scripture where Jesus commands you to eat. Why? because certain things come to you naturally. *You were commanded to Love because love don't come to you naturally.* Another reasons we have been commanded to love are: 1. Love is God: *The more you walk in Love, the more you become like God....

GREAT GRACE

Text : Acts 4:33    *And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.*   *If the Bible talks about great Grace upon the Apostles, it also connotes that grace can be in small measure. May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be multiplied upon your life in abundance. Amen*   *GRACE is more than a favour or enablement to do something or achieve a feat. It is not limited to the oil that lubricates your wheel. Grace is simply Jesus personified.*   *Grace is that which releases and transmits things that pertains to Christ upon a man's life.* Grace is actually the person of Christ at work in a man's life.   _For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace._ John 1:16 Though, every born again(child of God) is saved by Grace at the point of salvation, but that is not all there is about Grace; Grace initiated your birth by Faith, it is also grace that will...

HEART THAT MATTERS 2

Text : Isaiah 66:2  *....But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.*  David was chosen as the king of Israel because he was a man after God's own heart. David was humble, contrite in spirit and trembles at God's word. Any man that has these three qualities in his life is the one that the Lord will look favourably at. 1. Humility: *It takes one who is humble and meek to attract God,* for God is a Humble God Himself. It takes Humility on God's part to behold the things that are in heaven and on earth.  _The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens. Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!_ Psalms 113:4 & 6 David described humility while responding to his wife, Michal ( Saul's daughter). After he had danced before the ark, Michal despised David's dance before the Lord thus:  _How glorious was the king of Israel today, who uncovered himself ...

SHUT THAT LION'S MOUTH

Text : By faith these people......shut the mouths of lions. Some heroes of faith like Samson, Daniel and David literally shut the mouths of lions, put to flight every works of the devil and enforce God's kingdom within their circle of influence. (Judges 14:14, 1 Sam 17:34 & 35). Daniel's enemy had successfully dragged him into serious problems with King Darius, and this has led to his imprisonment in the Den of lions. (Daniel 6:17). While our Lord Jesus is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, our adversary the devil, (though not the lion) but he also roars like a lion, walking about and looking for whom to devour. You must know that your adversary is always : 1. Walking about and  2. Looking for whom to devour. (1Peter 5:8) You shall not be devoured in Jesus name! Daniel was thrown into the Lion's den in order to be devoured but he silenced the mouths of the lions by Faith. While preparing to throw Daniel into the prison, the king said to him  “....May your God, whom y...

JUST OBEY

Text : 2 Kings 5:10 KJV   *And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.*   *Because a gift costs nothing, man tends to look down on it with disdain. But always remember that someone, somewhere paid for that which cost you nothing*  Naaman went to Israel to get a cure for his leprosy, but he went with his pride and sense of entitlement. 2 Kings 5: 9. *The reason many can't receive Jesus today is because of their pride and vain achievements.*  Jesus mentioned this in Math. 19:23, Then Jesus told his disciples, “I tell all of you with certainty, it will be hard for a rich person to get into the kingdom from heaven. After Elijah had told Naaman what he must do to be cleansed, Naaman flew into a rage and left, telling himself, “Look! I thought he’s surely going to come out to me, stand still, call out in the name of the LORD his God, wave his hand over the infec...

LEPROSY

Text : 2Ki 5:1 ISV   *Naaman, the commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man in the opinion of his master. He was highly favored, because by him the LORD had given victory to Aram. Though he was a mighty and valiant man, he was suffering from leprosy.*  Leprosy is an infectious disease. An infectious disease is any disease that can be transmitted from one person to another. And dsease is a combination of two words viz: dis (meaning negative) and ease. Which means disease is non existence of ease. That is, in this context, leprosy is the presence of any communicable virus or element which brings discomfort to its bearer. Having given the background information of what leprosy is,  let's see how it relates with today's discourse, using Naaman as our case study : From our text, Naaman - 1. He was an army Commander.  2. He was a great man.  3. He was highly favored.  4. He had brought victories to Aram.  5. He was a mighty and valiant ...

BY FAITH...3

Text : Heb.11:33&34 NLT *By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight*  By Faith, they received what God promised them. While this is what most Christians major in today, it is however not all that our faith should pursue. It is only one of the items. The faith of the Patriarchs and old saints achieved much more than receiving God's promises only.   *By faith they :*  1. Overthrew kingdoms 2. Ruled with justice 3. Received what God had promised them*** 4.They shut the mouths of lions, 5.Quenched the flames of fire,  6.,Escaped death by the edge of the sword.  7.Their weakness was turned to strength.  8.They became strong in battle and  9.Put whole armies to flight. Our Lord who is the aut...

BY FAITH...2

Text : Heb.11:33&34 NLT *By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight* . You will sometimes wonder why most Countries in the world have remained impoverished and corrupt.  This is simply because they do not have leaders that are walking in and by Faith. Note that it takes only Faith to wrought righteousness.  _Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to the royal son!May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice!Psalm 72:1&2_  The second feat   recorded against the names of  saints in Hebrew 11:33&34 is the enforcement of   righteousness( justice)  *2.By Faith they wrought righteousnesss.*   *Justice, fairness and equity ca...

BY FAITH

Text : Heb.11:33&34 NLT *By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight* .  *Our Faith in God is not only to receive from Him or command mountains but to primarily walk with God.*  The writer of the book of Hebrews recorded some exploits that were done by the old Patriarchs and Saints who walked in Faith.  Towards the end of the discourse, some exploits were recorded against the names of certain folks who performed great exploit.  *1.By Faith they subdued kingdoms.* The names mentioned in verse 32 that can be attached to this exploit are: Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah and David. Today, we shall be considering GIDEON and how he subdued Kingdoms by Faith. Gideon was to go to war against the Midianites, ...

THE CONSEQUENCES

Text : 2Sam 12:12 ISV  “‘ *What you did in secret I’m going to do right in front of all Israel and in broad daylight as well!’”*  *God doesn't have problem with forgiving you your sins, but a number of times, you will still have to carry the scars.*  After David had committed adultery with Bathsheba, Uriah's wife, he plotted schemes of pushing the resultant pregnancy on Uriah. But all the schemes failed.  Eventually, he plotted the death of Uriah and took his wife over. Everything seems okay. No one could accuse him of any offence. But what is hidden to man is clearly opened before God.  God later sent a prophet to him (David). After much Ado, he realised his errors, was deeply sorry and begged God for forgiveness. Yes, God forgave him but he still had to live with the consequences of his actions. 2 Sam 12:1-13. To whom much is given, much is required. David knew so much than to allow himself to be so lured by temptation.  Hear what our Master says on t...

DISTRACTIONS 3

Text : 2 Sam 11:2   *Late one afternoon about dusk, David got up from his couch and was walking around on the roof of the royal palace. From there he watched a woman taking a bath, and she was very beautiful to look at.*  Today, we shall be looking at consequential results and damages of one singular distraction David had after he had become king.  But first, let's see how one so called innocent evening stroll led to several chains of unholy events. 1. *Idle Stroll :* Ecc 3:1 says "There is a season for everything, and a time for every event under heaven:" *It is good to do the right thing, but it is wisdom to do the right thing at the right time.* That is, it is not wrong to take a stroll, but it should be done at the right time. David was taking a nap and an idle stroll at a time when he should be at the battle field. *Please constantly ask yourself, are you at the right place now and are you doing the right thing?*  2. *Bad sight :* *You may not be able...

DISTRACTIONS

Text : 2Sam 11:2 WEB   *At evening, David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. From the roof, he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to look at.*   *One of the most powerful wiles of the enemy against fulfilment of mandate is Distractions.*  Though David had been anointed by Prophet Samuel as the king of Israel. It took him about fifteen years before he eventually ascended the throne.  What was he doing within this period? You might asked.  Well, It was then that he faced Goliath, was banished by Saul, hid in the desert, lived on the run, forced out of the nation, and fought many battles.  He was encumbered with a lot of troubles and life-threatening challenges to say the least. Yet God gave him victory in them all.  Probably based on his experience, he said in Psa 34:19, that " *Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all."*  One would naturally thin...

DISTRACTIONS

Text : 2 Sam 11:2 WEB   *At evening, David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. From the roof, he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to look at.*   *Just one distractions can cost you more than you bargained for in a lifetime. PRAY AGAINST DISTRACTIONS AND WORK AGAINST IT TOO.* One error, one mistake can lead to a transgeneratiinal consequences.  We shall be looking into a series that extrays what distraction entails using King David as our case study.  For the record, David was not from a royal family. He was just a teenage shepard boy dedicated to obeying his father's instructions. Well, it pleases the Lord to make this teenage boy the king of Israel.   _Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD came on David from that day forward. Then Samuel got up and went to Ramah._ 1Sam 16:13 ISV.  *When it comes to election, God does...

MERCY

Text : Lamentations 3:22&23  *It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.*   *It's quite comforting to know that God's mercies and compassions are new every morning.* In other words, you can say that God's goodness, kindness and compassion come fresh to you every morning.  I am feeling so excited about this because I know that I daily receive fresh and new package of God's mercy and compassion.  *The daily supply of God's mercies and compassion is hinged on His faithfulness and not your merit.* It is very important for you to know that mercy and compassion are not only needed when you sin or do something wrong. They are like oxygen that we need for breathing. God reveals His mercy in multidimensional phases and levels. Sometimes you need judgement (discernment) to be able to understand the operations of His mercy.  In fact, the truth is: Man does not...

THE RAIN, THE FLOOD AND THE WIND

Text : Mathew 7:25 ISV   *The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, but it did not collapse because its foundation was on the rock.*   *It is certain that whoever has the seed of God's word will be visited with commensurate test because of the word.*  In Matthew 13, Jesus, while explaining the parable of the sower to His disciples said: troubles and persecution will come because of the word. Math13:21.   Note that Jesus didn't say "if troubles and persecution comes " rather, He said "when". 'When' speaks of time, that is, it's a certainty that trouble will come, it's just the timing that may be different from each individuals.   *Jesus didn't promise us a 'bread and butter', bed of roses Christian journey, only the sugarcoated, not-well-grounded evangelists do.*  Devil doesn't have issues with anyone who has no access to hearing of God's word. As far as he is concerned, they are...

CHECK YOUR FOUNDATION?

Text: 2Timothy 2:19  *Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.*   *Are you sure you are standing on God's foundation? It is very important that you are certain of what you are standing on.*  Foundation talks about the beginning of a thing, the underneath structure upon which the main structure sits on, the fundamental truth that supports the whole body or system of an entity.  Paul, talking about a foundation that is sure implies that there are many other foundations that are not sure. In fact, no other foundation is sure except God's. It is therefore very important that you are very sure of the foundation you are standing or building on.  Basically, everyone on the globe is certainly building on a foundation. The only clarification that needs to be made is: What type of foundation am I building upon-Sandy or Rocky Foundati...

IT IS WELL

Text :2 Kings 4:26    *Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well.*  *Though no one loves troubles, turbulence and adversity, but such are bound to happen and when they come, we must brace up in Faith and say: IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL* Horatio Spafford, a successful attorney and real estate investor lost a fortune in the great Chicago fire of 1871. Around the same time, his beloved four-year-old son died of scarlet fever. He thereafter lost his four daughters to a terrible ship collision that sunk over 200 people  His wife, Anna, survived the tragedy. Upon arriving in England, she sent a telegram to her husband that began: “Saved alone. What shall I do?” Later, while at the spot where her daughters died(in a sunk ship), Horatio Spafford composed the hymn: _It is well with my Soul:_  When peace like a river attendeth my way   When sorro...

PATIENCE

Text : 1Co 13:4.  *Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited,*  The very first feature of love as we have it in our text is patience. LOVE IS ALWAYS PATIENT.    *Your patience rope shows your Love's depth. Love is always patient. HOW PATIENT ARE YOU?*  Humans are impatient by nature. We want everything NOW. Instant noodles, instant camera, fast foods, ready-made husbands or wives and the list is endless, these are all means designed by man to satisfy his need of urgency.  The reason many end up in wrong marriages today is basically because of lack of patience, a little more patience will save you from lots of troubles.  According to the English dictionary, patience is the willingness to wait for something if necessary; without losing one's temper while waiting.  *If he is the right person for you, he will wait for you, he wouldn't rush you into ungodly practic...

*A WISE MAN

Text : Mat 7:24 ISV   *“Therefore, everyone who listens to these messages of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on a rock.*   *No one loves to be addressed as 'foolish", yet the Bible clearly states that whoever refuses to do what he heard from the word is a fool.* . So to be a wise man is to do what you hear from the word. And to be a foolish to hear but not do.  “Everyone who keeps on hearing these messages of mine and never puts them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.Mat 7:26. Devil doesn't have problem with people going to the church. In fact, he has no problem with people hearing God's word, in as much as they remain as hearers only but never 'doers'.   *Those who hear God's word without practising same are not just regarded as fools but they are referred to as deceivers also.*   *But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.* James 1:22....
