Text : 2 Sam 11:2
*Late one afternoon about dusk, David got up from his couch and was walking around on the roof of the royal palace. From there he watched a woman taking a bath, and she was very beautiful to look at.*
Today, we shall be looking at consequential results and damages of one singular distraction David had after he had become king.
But first, let's see how one so called innocent evening stroll led to several chains of unholy events.
1. *Idle Stroll :* Ecc 3:1 says "There is a season for everything, and a time for every event under heaven:" *It is good to do the right thing, but it is wisdom to do the right thing at the right time.* That is, it is not wrong to take a stroll, but it should be done at the right time. David was taking a nap and an idle stroll at a time when he should be at the battle field. *Please constantly ask yourself, are you at the right place now and are you doing the right thing?*
2. *Bad sight :* *You may not be able to control what you see at first sight, but it's your responsibility to determine if you will give it a repeated look.* There is a huge difference between what you saw and what you watched. You may accidentally see something unhealthy for your spiritual growth, but don't make a habit of watching it whether in your mind or physically. David didn't just see the naked woman, he chose to watched her. (Read the text again).
*Your eyes and your ears are the windows to your heart, be careful how you use them.*
3. *Digging Deep :* *Spend your time digging deep into the word, searching the scriptures. It pays far better than searching the internet.* David later inquired to know more about this woman. You will get what you searched. If you search for God, you will find Him.
*God said, "You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart".* Jer 29:13 ISV.
Now let's see the results of his search.
1. *He committed adultery.* After he had found out the woman was married, he called for her and commited adultery with her.
This is the first sin that his distraction led him to.2 Sam 11:4 What has your distraction led you to?
2. *He became a manipulator :* *One unconfessed sin usually gives rise to another, sin thrives in secrecy, watch out.* Once David got wind that the woman was pregnant, he began to scheme how he will push the pregnancy to her husband. 2 Sam. 11:5-13.
3. *He became a murderer :* *You will do what you never believed you are capable of if you don't take heed.* Obviously, David never set out to kill, he was never an evil man, but to cover up the track of a seemingly lesser sin, you will commit a more grievous sin. When all his schemes of getting Uriah the husband of the woman he committed adultery with failed. He resolved to killing him in a calculated, wicked manner. Sending a man to his untimely death, with a letter sent by the hand of the victim himself. 2 Sam 11:15-25.
Don't wait until the devil turns you from an offender to an inventor of evil. Confess your sin to God today.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.1Jn 1:9.
