Text : 2Ki 5:1 ISV
*Naaman, the commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man in the opinion of his master. He was highly favored, because by him the LORD had given victory to Aram. Though he was a mighty and valiant man, he was suffering from leprosy.*
Leprosy is an infectious disease. An infectious disease is any disease that can be transmitted from one person to another. And dsease is a combination of two words viz: dis (meaning negative) and ease. Which means disease is non existence of ease. That is, in this context, leprosy is the presence of any communicable virus or element which brings discomfort to its bearer.
Having given the background information of what leprosy is, let's see how it relates with today's discourse, using Naaman as our case study :
From our text, Naaman -
1. He was an army Commander.
2. He was a great man.
3. He was highly favored.
4. He had brought victories to Aram.
5. He was a mighty and valiant man.
6. He was a Leper.
Now, the question is, how can a man who bags all of the first five achievements listed above be a leper?
*Sin is like leprosy, it doesn't stop you from achieving 'great feats", but great feats doesn't make you less of a sinner.*
*Like leprosy, sin is an infectious disease, that's why the Bible says evil communication corrupts good manners.* 1 Cor. 15:33.
