REPENT

Text : Mar 1:15.

*And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.*

According to God's order, repentance comes before believing. *Genuine believing is always preceded by repentance, your believing is faulty if not accompanied by repentance.*

The reason for the many menace in our church today and by extension, in our society, is because there are many believers who merely believed in Christ but never really repented.

James 2:19 says You believe that there is one God. That’s fine! Even the demons believe that and tremble with fear. That is, *Anybody can believe anything, what distinguishes a believer in Christ is the fruit of repentance. Are you bearing the Fruit?*

Such was the case of Simeon the sorcerer in the book of Acts 8.

Prior to his believing, he was practicing occult arts and thrilling the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great.

Everyone from the least to the greatest paid close attention to him, saying, “This is what we call the great power of God!”

They paid careful attention to him because he had thrilled them for a long time with his occult performances.

But when Philip proclaimed the good news about the kingdom of God and about the name of Jesus the Christ, men and women believed and were baptized.

Simon too believed, and after he was baptized he became devoted to Philip. He was amazed to see the signs and great miracles that were happening. Acts 8:9-13.

At this point, Simeon could be referred to as a believer, after all, it was on record that he believed and was baptized.

At times, when I ask people about their salvation experience, some will go ranting that they were baptized or that they believe in God, others may even say they are workers in their church, so they are saved.

All these are good, but they will amount to nothing if not mixed with genuine repentance.

Tomorrow, we shall consider the lots of those who merely believed but never repented.

Bible Reading : Matt. 3:1-12.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

IN MY NAME.

Text : Mark 16:17-18  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Having believed in the gospel (Good news of the resurrection of Jesus and His victory over Sin, Satan and Death), you now need to start using the name of Jesus authoritatively. JESUS said that in His name you shall cast out devils; you shall speak with new tongues; you shall take up serpents; and if you drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt you; you shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. This means that you will undertake all these in the authority of Jesus' name. No matter how small or powerless you may think you are in your own eyes. Once you believe in His name, you shall do all that He promised.   Unbelief was the sin that Israelites committed that wasted a whol...
