GRACE AND PEACE

Text: Philippians 1:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. "... *Grace* to you and *peace* from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 1:7).  *Grace* be unto you, and *peace* , from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 1:3).  *Grace* be to you and *peace* from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.(2 Corinthians 1:2). Over 18 verses of Pauline's epistles prayerfully greeted the saints and believers with grace and peace. Apostle Paul was quite deliberate about this. This prayer of God's grace and peace upon your life actually means God's  presence over your life. There is no place on earth where you can find grace and peace except in God.  Jesus Christ once said that " *Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you...." (John 14:27).*  While the world can  offer you favour and Peace, God's unmerited Favour (grace) and Peace are not...

LEFTOVERS

Text : John 6:12  “When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, ‘Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.’” The miracle of the five loaves and two fish is one of the most cherished stories in Scripture. We often focus on the moment Jesus multiplied the bread, feeding thousands with what should not have been enough for one person. But there is something quietly powerful in what happens afterward. “Gather the pieces… Let nothing be wasted.” Jesus, who had just displayed the  miracle of abundant provisions cared about the leftovers. This tells us something deep about His heart: 1. *Jesus values what we overlook.*  The fragments, small, ordinary, “insignificant matter”, are still precious to Him. The small pieces of our lives matter to God: The unseen acts of kindness, the prayers prayed in weakness, the moments of faithfulness when no one is watching will never go unnoticed by our God. He takes cognizance of what men easily disdain and H...

THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Text : Matthew 9:36.  *When he saw the crowds, he was deeply moved with compassion for them, because they were troubled and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.*  We live in a hurting world. Ever since the fall of man, everyone has been damaged in one way or the other. The difference is, the degree of damage varies from person to person based on both internal and external factors. To rescue mankind from this gory state, God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ to redeem man from eternal corruption and damnation.  Now, anyone who is not born again falls into the category of the description that Jesus gave in our study text above. Anyone who is not born again is a troubled soul, a helpless being and a sheep without a shepherd. That someone goes to church does not exempt him or her from being troubled and helpless and essentially from being a sheep without a shepherd. The only way out is to have a  personal relationship with the good Shepherd. Very expressly, Jesus said ...

MOVED WITH COMPASSION

Text : Matthew 9:36. When he saw the crowds, he was deeply moved with compassion for them, because they were troubled and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Today's devotional is expressly addressed to believers, -to those who identify as Children of God or as followers of Jesus Christ. My brothers and sisters, when you see the crowd, what exactly did you see? How do you perceive people? Have you ever been called to lead a group before? How did you relate with the people?  Have you ever worked among men who had no clue about who God is, how did you fare among them? As a true disciple (follower) of Christ, you are expected to feel the same thing your master felt when put in similar situation. When Jesus saw the crowd, He was moved with compassion. He didn't see an avenue to extort. He didn't see a platform to gloat or play God over the people. He was moved with compassion for them. When you see that scammer in your street, are you moved with compassion? When you see th...

WALK WORTHY 3

Text:Ephesians 4:1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, The second virtue that  the Lord demands of us  for a worthy walk unto our calling is meekness.  Our Lord Jesus Christ described himself as one who is meek and lowly in heart, and He asked that we should learn of him. Meekness is of the heart, it is the mildness of disposition or gentleness of spirit. As a true learner (disciple) of Jesus Christ, meekness is a virtue through which you will inherit the earth.  Matthew 5:5 says, *"Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth." Matthew 5:5.* To inherit the earth means many things, and one of these is having great influence over this earth.  Moses in his own generation was a very meek man and he was able to confront the  strongest power of the world in his days - Egypt.  _Now the man...

WALKING WORTHY

Text:Ephesians 4:1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,  Yesterday, we were able to establish the calling which we are to walk worthy of. Today, we shall be looking at how to walk worthy of the calling. In Ephesians 4:1&2, Apostle Paul wrote thus: *"I... beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, (Ephesians 4:1-2)*  Three virtues are highlighted as all-important factors with which every believer could walk worthy of. These virtues are bedrock for affirming your calling unto God. Our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 11:29 declared Himself as having two of these virtues. He said,  "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am *meek* and *lowly* in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls." The first of these three virtues is lowliness (humility). If anyone would like to come to God,...

WALKING WORTHY

Text:Ephesians 4:1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.  The Lord has called every believer with a holy calling in accordance to His purpose. In 2 Timothy 1:9, the scripture says that God  has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, Having received the call, a responsibility is now laid on us to walk worthy of the call. The first thing we shall be considering today is to consider what the call is.  The reason many believers are confused today is simply because they do not know what  their calling is. This was why apostle Paul prayed for the church in Ephesus that the eyes of their understanding might be enlightened. (Ephesians 1:18).  *Unless a believer's eyes are enlightened, he cannot know the hope of his calling. And if he does not know the hope of his calli...

DECEITFUL GAIN

Text : Proverbs 20:17: Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be full of gravel. There is something strangely appealing about shortcuts. The human heart is often lured by “sweet” opportunities. The desire to cut corners, the desire for quick success are all lurking in the corner of the heart of man. This will eventually lead to hidden compromise and the kind of deceitful gain that seems harmless because no one appears to be hurt.  Proverbs tells us honestly that deceit can feel sweet at first. It can taste like victory, relief, or advantage. But God sees what we sometimes forget: the taste doesn’t last - the aftermath of the sweetness which is pain and bitterness. Note that the sweetness of sin is temporary. The word of God acknowledges a real human experience: sin can feel good in the moment, God's words does not deny this. But the Scripture warns that beneath that sweetness lies something sharp, and destructive. What began as sweetness becomes grav...

FEAR NOT-2

Text : 1 Kings 17:14. Because this is what the LORD God of Israel says: ‘That jar of flour will not run out, nor will that bottle of oil become empty until the very day that the LORD sends rain on the surface of the ground. Before Elijah spoke this promise, the widow of Zarephath was overwhelmed with fear. Her resources were almost gone. Her hope was fading. She was preparing for the worst. And then, God stepped into her fear with a word, - “Do not be afraid.” (Elijah says this to her in verse 13.) This word is an invitation to *shift your gaze from your circumstances to the God that can handle all circumstances.* God wasn’t asking her to ignore her circumstances, He was asking her to look beyond them unto Him. Fear told the widow: “This is the end.” But God told her: “This is where I begin.”  *Fear focuses on what we lack.*   *Faith focuses on who God is.*  Fear says, “I don’t have enough.” God says, “I will sustain you.” The promise of 1 Kings 17:14 is God confront...

Text :  Ephesians  5:5    *For this you know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.*  *One very silent sin that can debar one from entering the kingdom of God is covetousness.* Did you know that covetousness is idolatry? Well, read the text again.  The book of Colossians stated it very clearly- Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: Colossians 3:5.  Idolatry is simply the worship of idols. Idol is not just a graven image but anything that is revered and worshipped. *When you reference someone or something more than necessary, then,  you have turn such fellow or thing to an idol.*  Now, the question is, why is covetousness regarded as idolatry? Covetousness is an ungodly desire for something that belongs to another. It c...

FEAR NOT

Text : 1 Kings17:14. Because this is what the LORD God of Israel says: ‘That jar of flour will not run out, nor will that bottle of oil become empty until the very day that the LORD sends rain on the surface of the ground. Economic meltdown is  dated back to the Bible days. During the time of prophet Elijah, there was a serious economic meltdown by reason of drought. The famine was so severe that mother and child await death after they have exhausted all their means of livelihood. Such was the case of this woman in our study text today, when the man of God asked her for a piece of bread, her response showed the despicable position that she was.  “As the LORD your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have so much as a muffin, just a handful of flour in a bowl and some oil left in a bottle. Now I’m going to find some sticks so I can cook a last meal for my son and for me. Then we’re going to eat it and die.” 1 Kings 17:12. That was a very hopeless situation. Eating your last meal a...

Text : Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." By nature, human wants are unlimited, human needs are insatiable. That is, man is incapable of satisfying all his wants and even needs. *Anyone who can't curb his quest for more of anything except God, will eventually be quenched by his quest.*  Nothing in this life has the capacity to satisfy the longings in the soul of man. There is a void in man that nothing in this world can fill except God.  A number of times, man thinks getting more money will solve this longing, but the more he acquires, the bigger the void becomes. This unquenching desire to keep acquiring things leads men to the love of money. 1 Timothy  6:10 aptly says, *For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.*  It's clea...

CONTENTMENT

Text : Hebrews 13:5  *Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."*  It is becoming increasingly alarming for people to be content in our world today. While that may not be anything strange for the world, God's word commanded that we believers must be contented. There is always a new thing out there calling for your impulse buying.  There will always be the latest car in town to buy. There are always new phones in the market to buy. Several new versions and editions of goods and services are always being released into the market on daily basis. The world system has been designed by the devil to stir people's hearts to covetousness. People are always on the run for more of things: more money, more phones, more shoes, more bags, more clothes, more cars, more houses. The list is endless. As a believer, you must ask yourself a sincere question: *How much money, possess...

PROTECTION AND PEACE

Text : Isaiah 54:17. " No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord. Life often feels like a battlefield. There are days when the enemy’s attacks come not just through circumstances, but through words, doubts, and fears that try to pierce our hearts. Yet in this verse, God gives us a firm, unshakable promise: *no weapon formed against you will succeed.*  Notice that God did not say that the enemy will not  form a weapon, but that the weapon will not prosper. People may speak against you. situations may rise up to test your faith, and you might even feel overwhelmed.  But the Lord assures you that every attack will ultimately fail to accomplish its purpose. *Why?* Because your protection and vindication come from the Lord. God’s promises here are not based on merit, they are by inheritance. He says this is “the heritage...

STAND IN YOUR VICTORY

TEXT:1 John 5:4  *For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.*  Our Lord Jesus affirmatively declared in John 16:33 that you should be of good cheer because He has overcome the world. And our study text today is saying to you that whatever that is born of God overcomes the world. This means that as a believer in our Lord Jesus Christ, you are not to fight to obtain victory but to stand in the victory you were born into. Are you born again? If yes, then, you are born of God, and if you are born of God, you've already  overcome the world. Your fight therefore is not a fight to obtain victory but a fight to stand in your victory- the victory that God has wrought for you through our Lord Jesus Christ.  The only fight you are called to fight is the fight of faith. It is the fight that keeps you in the victory that Christ has obtained for you.(1 Timothy 6:12). The enemy knows too well that once you are una...

PEACE IN HIM-2

Text : John 16:33  These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."   Yesterday, we saw that as a believer, your peace is in Christ Jesus and not in this world. He declared that you will have tribulations in this world.  While no one likes tribulations, it is one sure thing that Jesus said we would encounter. He however gave us a comforting word that we should be of good sheer because he had already overcome the world.  You could liken the world to a very big python whose head has been smashed but its body is still having a measure of life. In the same way, Jesus has conquered the world, though it's still throwing tribulations at you.  A dead python whose head has been smashed and cut off can still be very scary and fearful, but it can no longer do much or any harm again, even if it's body is still moving. In the same manner, Jesus said, "...be of good chee...

PEACE IN HIM

Text : John 16:33  These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."*    In John chapter 16, our Lord Jesus Christ talked to his disciples  about the  persecution  that is about to confront them, his departure back to the Father, the arrival of the Holy Spirit, and how they shall be able to ask anything from the Father  in his potent name.  As he rounded up his discourse, He told the disciples that the reason for telling them all these is for them to know where to locate their Peace and that He has already overcome the world. He made it very clear to his disciples that the only place to find peace is in Him.  ".... *in Me* you may have peace. *In the world* you will have tribulation..." (John 16:33). It is therefore clear from the scriptures that this world has no peace to offer a true child of God.  Even the peace it offers unbeliev...
