Text : Hebrews 13:5
*Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."*
It is becoming increasingly alarming for people to be content in our world today. While that may not be anything strange for the world, God's word commanded that we believers must be contented.
There is always a new thing out there calling for your impulse buying.
There will always be the latest car in town to buy. There are always new phones in the market to buy. Several new versions and editions of goods and services are always being released into the market on daily basis.
The world system has been designed by the devil to stir people's hearts to covetousness. People are always on the run for more of things: more money, more phones, more shoes, more bags, more clothes, more cars, more houses. The list is endless.
As a believer, you must ask yourself a sincere question: *How much money, possessions or achievements can fill the vacuum or satisfy the yearnings of my soul?*
Contentment and covetousness are parallel lines that can never meet. As a believer, you must be intentional about choosing between Contentment and Covetousness. If you do not decide on one, then you will automatically find yourself on the side of covetousness.
Don't get it wrong, it's not only the rich who can be covetous, even the poor can be as well. The only difference is the poor has no resources(money) to sponsor their covetous spirit.
In order for believers to be saved from the grip of Mammon, God, through Apostle Paul admonished that "...having food and raiment let us be therewith content." (1 Timothy 6:8).
You must however note that contentment is never an enemy to godly and good ambition or desires. The scripture even instructed us to desire the best gifts (1 cor. 12:13).
While it may not be a bad idea to desire good things in life, *Covetousness is greedy desire to have more. It's not just a mere desire.* One thing that marks out the difference between covetousness and godly desire is Selfishness.
*Covetous people are selfish. They keep wanting more and more for themselves only, and no one else is in their thoughts.*
To quench covetousness, you must make room for God in your life, and this will bring great gain your way.
Of course, godliness with contentment does bring a great gain. 1Timothy 6:6.
Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for God has said, “...I will never leave you or abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5.
