MRS NABAL(ABIGAIL)

Text : 1 Sam 25:25 ISV   *Please, your majesty, don’t pay attention to this worthless man Nabal, for he’s just like his name. Nabal is his name and folly is his constant companion. But I, your servant, didn’t see your majesty’s young men whom you sent.*  Do you know that our text today was uttered by a wife as regards her own husband? As much as Nabal was foolish enough to have offeneded the Lord's anointed(David), Abigail too did not fully discharge her duty appropriately. No foolish husband would ever want to hear the kind of statement Abigail made behind her husband. The moment a lady mistakenly joins herself to a  Nabal, she is only left with the option of asking for God's intervention for supply of wisdom and change of heart. That was not the case of Abigail.  Let us carefully see the role Abigail played:  *1. She despised and reviled her husband instead of simply begging on his behalf* . _Let not my lord regard this worthless fellow, Nabal, for as his...

MR NABAL

Text : 1 Sam 25:25 ISV   *Please, your majesty, don’t pay attention to this worthless man Nabal, for he’s just like his name. Nabal is his name and folly is his constant companion. But I, your servant, didn’t see your majesty’s young men whom you sent.*  I keep wondering why some parents give their children worthless names.  *Your present predicaments shouldn't be the reason to give meaningless or worthless names to your children.*  So it happened that long time ago, some parents for reasons best known to them decided to call their son Nabal. Nabal literally means foolish or senseless.  Despite his name, he grew up to be a rich man. *Obviously, being foolish doesn't stop you from being rich, there are many rich fools around. The greatest damage foolishness does is, preventing you from knowing God.*   _Fools say to themselves, “There is no God.”   They are corrupt and commit evil deeds;   not one of them practices what is good.P...

ON A JOURNEY

Text :1 Pet 2:11.  *Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;*   *Our calling as Christians is a calling unto pilgrimage. We are on a journey. You must daily live in the consciousness of this.*  Pilgrims are people who are willing to constantly engage in migration from one place to another.  A Christian pilgrim is one who is on a journey of migrating from the old man to the new man until he comes to the  measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. 2 Cor. 5:17. Eph. 4: 13,22 We must constantly migrate from one dimension of spiritual perspective as revealed by the Spirit to another and yet to another, with the aim of becoming like Christ.   *When you are cognizant of the fact that you are on transit here on earth, it will reflect in your attitude towards all things.*  This world's system is designed to make people focus on things on earth only. But as a person who know...

BACK TO THE MAKER 2

Text : John 6:37.   *All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.*  We concluded yesterday that the steps to returning to God could be found in 2 chronicles 7:14. Today,  we shall attempt to X-ray  this verse :   *If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.*  1. *If my people* The word 'if' is a conditional statement. That is, it's not automatic, even as God's people, if you refused to follow His instructions, you will be left out in His promises.  2. *Which are called by my name.* :  *God is God over all but He is not father to all, fatherhood of God is only gotten through Christ Jesus.* Rom 8:14 says For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. ARE YOU BEING LED by HIS SPIRIT?  3. *H...

BACK TO THE MAKER

Text : John 6:37.   *All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.*  Some years back, our LG television developed fault and started malfunctioning. Our neighbor got wind of it and introduced us to a "good technician." We took the TV to the guy, paid him service charge and was told to come back for it few days later. Long story short, the TV moved from bad to worse after the guy worked on it.  Since it was obvious we couldn't use it in that condition, we were told to pay more money so he can do a better job on it.  Well,  it turned out that the condition of the TV moved again from worse to worst, yet the guy still promised to fix it, if only we can pay more.  It was at this time we came to our senses(my spouse and I). We decided to take the TV back to the LG office, something we were reluctant to do initially because of petty excuses.  We eventually took the TV back to "her" maker who got it f...

INGRATITUDE

Text : 2Tim 3:2 ISV  *People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,*   *Doesn't it marvel you to know that ingratitude is a sign of end time? Just ask yourself, how many times have you been ungrateful in the past?* I know you know the meaning of gratitude, but permit me to spell out what the dictionary meaning is nonetheless. Gratitude is the state of being thankful or appreciative. That is, ingratitude is a lack or absence of gratitude and thanklessness.  No known human culture or religion teaches people to be ungrateful. So the question is, where is ingratitude coming from, and why is it on the increase?  Well, the answer is straight and simple, ingratitude is one of the features of the end time. Human behaviors are fashioned and regulated by spirits. *If you are not being influenced by the Holy Spirit, you are being influenced by the evil spirits, no middle ground.*  ...

DISOBEDIENCE

Text : 2Tim. 3:2 ISV   *People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,*  One of the signs of end time is that children shall be disobedient to their parents.   *All the prophecies of the scriptures shall be fulfilled, whether positive or negative, but you don't have to be part of those who will fulfill the negative prophecies.*  Now, this warning goes to two categories of people : the Parents and the children.  *THE PARENTS* Before a child would be termed disobedient, a set of instructions must have been given and flouted. This presupposes that,it is the responsibility of parents to guide and guard their wards. Proverbs 22:6 says, _Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it._  Obviously, the verse clearly states who the trainer and the trainee is. If the parents are not slack in their duties, when the children are gr...

BOASTFUL & PROUD*

Text : 2 Timothy 3:2  *...They will be boastful and proud...*  Today, we shall be looking at another sign of perilous times as stated in 2Tim chapter 3. Apostle Paul mentioned that people will be boastful and proud in the last days. Today, we are already seeing the progressive Fulfilment of this in our churches and on the pulpits. So many proud and boastful preachers are on the pulpits. Many in the church are proud and boastful of their abilities, giftings, riches, titles, anointing, achievement, the list is endless.  *One major antidote to Pride and Boastfulness is to always know that everything you have is from God.*   _... What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?_ 1Cor. 4:7 While you can easily notice boastings, it may not be easy to identify pride in certain people. For some people, pride is embedded deep down in the heart. Therefore, only God can see it. While boastings c...

PERILOUS TIMES 2

Text : 2 Timothy 3:1   *This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.*  Today, we shall start looking at the signs of perilous times one after the other:  _For People will love only themselves and their money....._   Jesus clearly stated the second important commandment as loving your neighbour as yourself. He said,  _"The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”_ Mark 12:31 If you critically look at the second commandment, it presupposes that : 1. You already love yourself. 2. You should extend same love you have for yourself to your neighbour. 3. *Your neighbour should receive as much Love from you, in the same proportion as you love yourself.!*  Contrary to the second commandment, Apostle Paul told Timothy that people will love *ONLY* themselves and their money. So it is clear, *Loving yourself is not the problem, but loving yourself only.* The narratives...

PERILOUS TIMES

Text : 2 Timothy 3:1   *This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.*  You and I (living in the last days) are now being confronted with the perilous times. The cause of this perilous times is nothing but man. Apostle Paul in 2Timothy 3:1-5 warned Timothy about the perils of the last days. I will like to encourage you to carefully read through the signs of this perilous times. It is possible you are also living out some of these signs. Hence, God would have you receive grace today for a change of heart, lest you become part of the fulfillment of the perilous times.   _...People will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred._ verse 2  _They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good._   _They will betray their friends, ...

PRACTICE RIGHTEOUSNESS 2

Text : 1Jn 3:7 ISV   *Little children, don’t let anyone deceive you. The person who practices righteousness is righteous, just as the Messiah is righteous.*  Though,, righteousness is a gift from God which every believer in Christ Jesus received at birth; yet God expects every believer to live out the gift of righteousness received.  *You are expected to LIVE-OUT and express the gift of righteousness you received at conversion through righteous living* .  A golden warning Jesus Christ gave to all His disciples is to be cautious of deception. One of the things believers are being deceived on today is the issue of righteousness.   *It is your responsibility to guard against deception, see to it that no one deceives you.*  Let's get this straight, A person who is united to Christ does not go on sinning. But if a person goes on sinning, he really does not know Christ at all. He does not understand who Christ is.1Jn 3:6 EasyEnglish. The Easyenglish ...

TRUE DEFINITION OF LIFE

Text : John 10:10 ISV   *The thief comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy. I’ve come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.*   *True definition of life comes through understanding, in ALL YOUR GETTING, GET UNDERSTANDING.* Prov. 4:7. Since the fall of man, man has been living with the wrong definition of life. Man was not created for survival, this comes as a result of the fall.  In Genesis 3, we saw that the ground was cursed for man's sake, because of disobedience.  And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Gen 3:17.   *No man can wriggle out of God's verdict except through Christ.*  Through Adam, humanity has been living in death, and everything we refer to as life is actually death.   Wherefore, as...

PRACTICE RIGHTEOUSNESS

Text : 1Jn 3:7 ISV   *Little children, don’t let anyone deceive you. The person who practices righteousness is righteous, just as the Messiah is righteous.*  One popular verse in the mouths of some believers these days is "I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus".  Yes, 2Cor 5:21 told us exactly that - For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. However, this verse of the scriptures is not a ticket to sin neither is it a licence for loose living. As a matter of fact, the international standard version rendered that verse thus:   *God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that God’s righteousness would be produced in us.* So it is clear that the reason God made Jesus who knew no sin to be sin for us is so that we can produce God's righteousness.  Before Jesus Christ came to die for us, man has no wherewithal to produce God's righteousness, that's why Isa 64:6 says...

DEFINITION OF LIFE

Text : John 10:10 ISV   *The thief comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy. I’ve come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.*  From our text, it was clear what the mission statement of Jesus Christ was- He came so we might have life and have more abundantly. This presupposes that before His advent, man didn't have life.(Zoe- God's kind of life)  Now, the question is, what kind of life was man living before Jesus came? Obviously, man had been living with a wrong definition of what life is. Man has been living only the soulish life. In Matthew 6:25, Jesus Christ gave a summation of what human's definition of life is as it were. For a natural man, life is all about need for food, clothing, shelter, etc. Abraham Maslow, a humanist psychologist captioned this as 'hierarchy of human needs. A situation whereby one satisfied need gives rise to a seemingly greater need, and the cycle continues.   “That’s why I’m telling you to stop worrying about...

TODAY

TEXT. Hebrews 3:13  *But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin* .  *TODAY is the only day in your lifetime that you always have to make the right decision; yesterday is gone, and tommorrow is God's.*  God's word encourages us to exhort one another daily. The reason for daily exhortation is to prevent the hearers from being hardened through the deceitfuness of sins. New Living Translation renders the text thus:  _*You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God Heb. 3-13*_ .  *Sin has the capacity to deceive you and harden your heart against God. Watch it!* Today always come with the opportuniy to hear God's Voice. "Today" is the season in which the Voice (of God) is being heard for a walk in obedience. Your "Today" comes with a command (voice) for you to obey. *To miss God's voice(comma...

DECEITFULNESS OF SIN 2

TEXT. Hebrews 3:13  *But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin* .  *While deceit is a sin, Sin itself is deceitful.* Sin has the capacity to lure a man to do stuffs. *One of the major vices of the devil is to make sin appear attractive and unharmfult.* If Eve could see what the consequences of eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil would be, she would have resisted the deception of the man of sin. She was simply deceived.Gen, 3:6 While it is no news that all sinners are already condemned to deceitfulness of sin, it is sad to know that many children of God (like Adam and Eve), are being easily deceived by Sin. See the case of Ananias and Sapphira, Acts 5:1-13. Many Christians today are still playing the same game of smartness this couple played. I call it smartness because that was what they thought they were doing. While they thought they were smart, Peter knew that Satan h...

DECEITFULNESS OF SIN

TEXT. Hebrews 3:13  *But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin* . The preceding verse to our text is imploring you to take heed, lest there be in you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God. Hebrews 3:12.  It is clear from this scripture that unbelief is a product of the nature of the heart(an evil heart). *Though unbelief may appear harmless to you, yet it is a big source of evil.* Think about it: why did Eve eat the fruit God commanded them(Adam and Eve) not to eat? Devil simply tempted her to believe him and to disbelieve God.   The Israelites could not enter into God's rest because of unbelief. Hebrews 4:2&3  _For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shal...
