Text : 1 Sam 25:25 ISV
*Please, your majesty, don’t pay attention to this worthless man Nabal, for he’s just like his name. Nabal is his name and folly is his constant companion. But I, your servant, didn’t see your majesty’s young men whom you sent.*
I keep wondering why some parents give their children worthless names.
*Your present predicaments shouldn't be the reason to give meaningless or worthless names to your children.*
So it happened that long time ago, some parents for reasons best known to them decided to call their son Nabal. Nabal literally means foolish or senseless.
Despite his name, he grew up to be a rich man. *Obviously, being foolish doesn't stop you from being rich, there are many rich fools around. The greatest damage foolishness does is, preventing you from knowing God.*
_Fools say to themselves, “There is no God.” They are corrupt and commit evil deeds; not one of them practices what is good.Psa 14:1 ISV._
Mr Nabal however lived up to his name - foolishness. He was so foolish that even his servants called him so. Imagine a servant telling his Master's wife that ""you know your husband is worthless."
_Now, be aware of this and consider what you should do. Calamity is being planned against our master and against his entire household. He’s such a worthless person that no one can talk to him.”_ 1Sa 25:17 ISV
One major characteristic of Mr Nabal, a foolish person is that he can't be talked to.
At this point, it is instructional for you to look inward and ask yourself, CAN I BE TALKED TO?
CAN I BE CORRECTED?
*Don't ever get to the state where no one can tell you the truth or correct you, it's a dangerous position to be.*
As a single young lady, one thing you should look out for in a man is his teachability. Can he be corrected? Does he have people over his life that he submits to?
Everyone (both male and female ) needs to work towards cultivating this virtue. Ability to receive correction.
Regardless of your achievements and acquisitions, if you can't be talked to, you are a worthless fellow. 1 Sam. 25:17.
Anyone who cannot be corrected is a disaster waiting to happen. He is a time bomb, dangerous to himself and those around him.
He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.Pro 29:1 KJV
Don't be a Mr Nabal, be opened to advice and good counsel. Remember, Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.Prov. 11:14.
