DECEITFULNESS OF SIN

TEXT. Hebrews 3:13

*But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin* .

The preceding verse to our text is imploring you to take heed, lest there be in you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God. Hebrews 3:12.

It is clear from this scripture that unbelief is a product of the nature of the heart(an evil heart). *Though unbelief may appear harmless to you, yet it is a big source of evil.* Think about it: why did Eve eat the fruit God commanded them(Adam and Eve) not to eat? Devil simply tempted her to believe him and to disbelieve God.

The Israelites could not enter into God's rest because of unbelief. Hebrews 4:2&3

_For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world._

*The expectation of God for every follower (disciple) of our Lord Jesus Christ is continuity in the word.*

If you discontinue in the word, unbelief will set in, and once unbelief sets in, access to Rest and inheritance becomes impossible.

*To enter into God's rest is to take heed to yourself. And to take heed to yourself is to prevent and avoid unbelief in your heart.* To prevent unbelief in your heart is simply to ward off evil heart.

In simple language, taking heed to yourself, would therefore means paying keen attention to the word of God that you hear (OBEDIENCE).

*Whenever you hear the word "BELIEVE" in the bible, it does not just mean paying mental assent to the truth. It goes beyond consenting to a truth in your head. It does mean an active participation in and reliance on God's word without recourse to any other means outside it* .

Avoiding deceitfullness of Sin, starts with:

1. Taking God at His word. (Obedience). James 1:22-25

2. Taking heed to yourself(Soberness).1 Thess.5:6&8

3. Taking correction and conviction with all seriousness (Repentance) Rev. 3:19

Bible Reading. Hebrew 3:5-13.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

IN MY NAME.

Text : Mark 16:17-18  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Having believed in the gospel (Good news of the resurrection of Jesus and His victory over Sin, Satan and Death), you now need to start using the name of Jesus authoritatively. JESUS said that in His name you shall cast out devils; you shall speak with new tongues; you shall take up serpents; and if you drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt you; you shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. This means that you will undertake all these in the authority of Jesus' name. No matter how small or powerless you may think you are in your own eyes. Once you believe in His name, you shall do all that He promised.   Unbelief was the sin that Israelites committed that wasted a whol...
