FORGIVE 2

Text Matthew 18:21-22   Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, if my brother keeps on sinning against me, how many times do I have to forgive him? Seven times? No, not seven times,” answered Jesus, “but seventy times seven, Offences are bound to come as long as you relate and interact with people.  Jesus said in Luke  17:1 to His disciples that, it is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! Offences are like a grenade (Bomb) that you must neither throw nor receive. Either way, it causes destruction. You must always receive grace not to be an intentional offender nor a 'nurser' of offences.  From our text, Jesus taught what your response should always be towards offenders.  You must always forgive everyone that offends you no matter the number of times they offend you in a day.  Jesus' recommendation for forgiveness of offence in a day is seventy times seven. Since offence is bound to occur, then, it's important t...

FORGIVE

Text: Mark 11:25. “ Whenever you stand up to pray, forgive whatever you have against anyone, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins. Forgiveness is a subject that cannot be overemphasised. In the New testament alone, forgiveness was mentioned 47 times ( in the king James version).  Essentially,  you forgive for your sake. Forgiving your offender does more good to you than your offender. Without mincing words, Jesus said the reason you give forgiveness is so that your Father in heaven can forgive you your sins. That is, when you refused to forgive or let go, you are telling God not to also forgive your sins. In Mark 11:26 Jesus says, "But if you do not forgive, your Father in heaven will not forgive your sins.” Note that we are commanded to forgive  not because the offender is not in the wrong but because it is not so much about the wrong but about you getting a platform to receive mercy from the Lord.  A wise man once said that unforgiveness is like tak...

LEADING AND RESPONSIBILITY!

TEXT: 1 Samuel 12:23   Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: While God has pronounced the dominion mandate upon every man, He has also orchestrated leadership amongst human system.  To occupy a leadership position is not equivalent to exercising dominion over the followers, rather it is to lead the followers into their dominion mandate in God. A father leads a family, a Pastor leads a congregation, a President leads a nation- all these leaders are to lead their followers into  dominion and not to exercise dominion over them. Any father or husband that does not know this will simply be a dictator, any Pastor who has not understood this simple truth will be missing out a very important point.   Leadership, as far as God is concerned is the discharge of the responsibility of leading  followers into their God given dominion mandate. Often than not, the enemy...

REVENGE

Text. Romans 12:19.   Do not take revenge, dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me. I will pay them back, declares the Lord.” Many people spend their lives hating others and planning for revenge. Many are living in bitterness because of many hurts they have received directly or indirectly. Bitterness has no friends. It takes its toll on its host and on those whom they love the most. One of the subjects that Jesus laid emphasis on is the matter of forgiveness. He told us expressly in the Lord's prayer that the Father will forgive you your sins in as much as you also give forgiveness to others. This is  Because if you forgive people their offences, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (Matthew 6:14). The reason many are living in bitterness and anguish is because they are not willing to forgive their offenders. You will only open door to tormentors in your life when you choose to withhold forgiveness from people. The truth...

DISTRACTIONS

TEXT : Luke 10:41&42   And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. One of the greatest weapons the devil employs in attacking believers is distraction. He does this in order to take believer's focus and attention away from the most important thing. Just like any believer, Mary received Jesus into her home, but instead of giving attention to the most important personality in her home, she became grossly distracted in the bid to serve Jesus Christ. If you do not take heed and pay attention to yourself, you may sincerely loose yourself in the course of serving Jesus Christ. While Martha was busy making efforts to serve the table, Mary was busy eating from the very table (Jesus Christ) that Martha was running helter skelter to serve.  It is important for you to know that Jesus Christ is more interested and places more...

DISTRACTIONS-2

TEXT : Luke 10:41&42   And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Today, we shall be looking closely at our study text in order to glean necessary wisdom on how to avoid all forms of distractions.  Let me quickly define distraction in the context and of our study text. Any thing that takes away your focus, and attention away from Jesus is a distraction.  Jesus said that Mary has chosen the good part which is the one thing that is needful, and that such shall not be taken away from her.  Inversely, we can safely say that Martha has missed the one thing that is needful and that which she has chosen is not everlasting, it shall be taken away from her. Sometimes, we give in to certain distractions even in the name of serving God. That was the predicament of Martha. She lost Jesus while making every effort t...

LOOKING UNTO JESUS

Text. : Hebrews 12:2.   Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith: who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Today,  we shall be taking a closer look at some of the key words from our study text :  LOOKING This is a continuous tense  which suggests that what we are to do is not a one-off event. For you to succeed as a Christian,  you must continually fix your gaze upon Jesus. Keep looking unto Him.  UNTO JESUS: it is very easy to look at something else other than Jesus Christ.  We live in a world that is full of distractions; where every thing is calling and demanding for your attention. Some of these distractions come from social media, friends, families, sports, career, business, or even religious activities.  I know that quite a number of the things calling for your attention are truly legit,  but even amidst this, you are to fix your...

FLOWER OR FOREST?

Text:  Matthew  5:13  Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. My family and I recently moved to a new region. The frontage of our apartment is covered with beautiful flowers. But it's obvious these flowers had not been attended to for a long time.  They are overgrown with many unruly plants. Flowers are beautiful, but when left unattended, they become like forest, a hide out for dangerous animals. What is meant to beautify your house can be a dangerous trap,  especially for unsuspecting persons. Jesus said you are the salt of the earth. That is, you are here to season the earth and to bring beauty and savour to it. But do you know that salt can loose its savour.  Any child of God that has lost his savour will be detrimental to himself and his environment. Like that flower, when you are left unattended to, you ...

RIPE, SWEET BUT SOUR

Text:Ecc 2:11.    Then I examined all of my accomplishments that I had brought about by my own efforts, including the work that I had labored so hard to complete—and it was all pointless, like chasing after the wind, and there was nothing to be gained on earth. We bought two water melon sometimes ago.  After we managed to finish the first one because it was unripe and not so sweet, we turned to the second one with a relief.  Seeing that the second water melon appeared fully ripe, we were excited about the sweetness. Quite unfortunately, on tasting the second water melon, it was sweet but sour. It has spoilt beyond what we could manage to eat. I will liken this ripe, sweet but sour water melon to Solomon's life. He wrote three books in the old testament. One of the books, songs of Solomon detailed his sweet life in love and romances, the second book (Proverbs) revealed his ripe wisdom and which gave general truth for living , the third  book "Ecclesiastes" showed...

THE GRACE

Text :  2 Corinthians  13:14.   The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.  Grace is not what we share absentmindedly after a meeting, Grace is Jesus Christ, and without personal relationship with Him, you are not graced. The only one that is full of Grace is Jesus Christ. John 1:14 says And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. Verse 16 of the same chapter, made us to know that we received our grace from the fulness of His grace.   _And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace._ (John  1:16). So it's clear that without Jesus, you are graceless. Grace is the basis for the Christian faith. *For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:* Ephesians  2:8. God's grace is usually defined as undeserved favor. Grace...

A CHRISTIAN 2

His Voice Devotional THURSDAY 21st NOVEMB Text. Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before people in such a way that they will see your good actions and glorify your Father in heaven.” Have you ever wondered why you were saved and your brother or sister that you were exposed to the same gospel together is not saved yet? Why did God single you out among your siblings, friends, colleagues and within your neighborhood.? Why did you receive understanding to come to light and they did not?  Well, mercy attended to your soul. He says in Romans  9:15  that, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So you should be eternally grateful for the mercy you have received. Secondly, you were saved to bear fruit, so that through you, others will come to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. You are where you are today so that your light might show unto others for them to see the glory of God, and...

A CHRISTIAN

Text. 1 Corinthians 13:2  If I have the gift of prophecy and can understand all secrets and every form of knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains but have no love, I am nothing. A Christian is anyone who lives for and behave like Christ.  You are not a Christian because you go to church or because you answer a Christian name, you are a Christian because you are Christlike. We have many people today who answer the name Christians but who do not look or behave like Christ in anyway.  Expressly, Jesus says "You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"(Matthew 7:16).  Everyone around you will know who you are by your character and not by what you say or the church you attend. Our world is full of many professing Christians but very few practicing Christians. Note that, fruits are to be eaten by men and not by the tree itself. In the same way, men are supposed to eat of your good fruit and give glory to...

UNDER THE SUN-2

Text:Ecclesiastes 1:14   I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. Man was created to have dominion over all the creations of God. God Himself made this clear at the beginning in Genesis 1:26. _And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth._ When man fell, he lost this dominion. Man who was created to have dominion now survive by depending on the creations. Ever since the fall, man has been cultured to seek survival under the sun. God's original idea is that man should transact between earth and heaven. This explains why God always visits Adam before the fall. Man was not created to live only for the earthly things. We were created to bring pleasure to God.  Anyone whose life is preoccupied with the things under ...

UNDER THE SUN.

Text:Ecclesiastes 1:14   I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. Life under the sun can be very frustrating and daunting. To be under the sun is to be subjected to this earthly elements, rudiments, traditions and perspectives Anything and everyone that is limited to life under the sun will eventually end up in vanity and destruction. As a believer, it is expected that we live and see beyond the sun. Living above the sun is to live from the perspective of the heavenly. King Solomon, being the wisest king that ever lived, pursued and lived for everything under the sun. Afterwards, he submitted that all the works done under the sun are vanity and vexation. This will always be the conclusion of everyone that is not seeking to obey and follow God.  Life is meaningless when it is not lived with Godly and eternal perspectives.Though, King Solomon started out with God, but at some point in time, he lost touch wit...

VENGEANCE-2

Text:Romans 12:19    Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written,"Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. Today we shall be looking at David's life and how he refused to avenge himself even in the face of great assaults from his enemies. David had such a large heart that every believer needs to take a clue from.  David's heart  towards his enemies was reflected whenever something bad happened to them. While David prayed for deliverance from his enemies and God's judgement upon them, he never rejoiced whenever God avenged him. David always give place to wrath.  David's reactions towards King Saul's death and his son (Jonathan) revealed the depth of his heart.  When David heard  of the news, he  took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him. And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, ...

HEALING AGENT(2)

TEXT : Jeremiah  8:22   Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? Today, we shall be looking at steps on how you can rise through the ladder of receiving healing from hurt, becoming healing agent and raising many other healing agents.   1. Receiving Healing from hurt The man of Gadarene  received healing because he went through three major steps. Let us look at the three major steps this man undertook in Mark 5:6 before he was restored to sanity.  _i. He had a clear vision of Jesus_ :  The only physician who gives true and total freedom from hurts is our Lord Jesus Christ.* The scripture stated in Mark 5:6 that the possessed man of the Gadarene _"...saw Jesus from afar..."_  You need to have a clear picture of Jesus' presence in your life in order for you to be delivered from any form of hurt. Seeing Jesus in your situation takes a conscious setting of your heart and...

HEALING AGENT

TEXT :  Jeremiah  8:22    Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? An interesting story about a possessed man of Gadarene in Mark chapter five revealed God's desire and design to bring healing to every hurting Soul.  The Lord is not just willing to heal you of your hurt, but He is much more willing to make you a healing agent as well. The possessed man of Gadarene had his dwelling among the dead in the tombs. No man could bind or chain him down. It was recorded about him that: _Because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones._ Mark 5:4-5. I quite believe that he must have hurt a number of people to the point that when he had none around to hurt again, ...

DON'T WORRY

Text : Matthew 6:25.   “ That’s why I’m telling you to stop worrying about your life—what you will eat or what you will drink—or about your body—what you will wear. Life is more than food, isn’t it, and the body more than clothing?  Everything around us is prompting us to worry, but the word of God explicitly said, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR LIFE. Admittedly, some of the things you worry about are legit, but legitimate or not, worry is not permitted in God's kingdom.  Naturally, man is wired to worry about every details of his life. We worry about what to eat, what to drink and about what to wear. This seems like the basic need of life, but the owner of life Himself said you shouldn't worry even about the so called basic needs of life.  The truth is Life is more than food and clothing, this Jesus said without mincing words. Mt.6:25. This world's system has cultured man to believe that life is all about survival. This survival instinct has put man in a perpetual wor...

TRUST IS CAPITAL-2

Text: 2King 22:7   But don't require the construction supervisors to keep account of the money they receive, for they are honest and trustworthy men." So many are stranded in life simply because they have depleted all their 'Trust-capital'.  To break the Trust people have in you, is like breaking the pillars holding a house. In our text, account was not required of the construction supervisors because they were honest and trustworthy men. This goes to say that, they must have had a track record of honest dealings in the past. These men had wisely invested their 'trust-capital' in all their relationships. One of the benefits and dividends of their past faithful dealings with people was that account was not being required from them anymore. Whatever they do is received in good faith by all . No one doubts whatever they say or do. They have proven themselves worthy of unconditional trust by all. When there is a mistrust in any relationship, check it- there must ha...

TRUST IS YOUR CAPITAL

Text: 2 Kings 22:7  But don't require the construction supervisors to keep account of the money they receive, for they are honest and trustworthy men."  Trust is fragile like egg, once broken, it cannot be gathered together again. 'Trust' can either mean reliance and dependence; or it can simply means integrity. While the first 'Trust' which talks about your dependence and reliance must only be for God and God alone, (Jeremiah 17:5), the second 'Trust' is your currency for smooth and effective relationship with your fellow humans.  Trust is your capital for running a profitable relationship. Our text shows that  the construction supervisors of the temple were so trustworthy to the extent that account was not demanded from them.  The simple implication of this is that they were accountable to God. You must equally see yourself in the same manner; as being accountable and responsible to God in anything at all that you are doing. As a child of God, you mus...

THE DESTROYER

Text : John 10:10   The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly . Today, we shall be looking at the third mission of our arch enemy-the devil. Jesus made us understand that the devil has come to destroy.  Praise be unto God who has also sent His Son to redeem all humanity from the destructive power of the devil.  God is so powerful that He can restore whatever the devil has stolen, resurrect whatever he has killed and redeem whatever he has destroyed. For example, there was a man who once lived in the country of the Gadarenes whose life was redeemed  from destruction.  The scripture says, "This man had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him".(Mark ...

REMEMBER HIM- 2

Text: Ecclesiastes:12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; Many people's destinies are destroyed from their tender ages. Many are living with regrets and wounds by reason of what they did or the decisions they took when they were young.  Yes, God is able to heal all wounds, and He is ready to heal yours if you will open up to Him. There's no life so damaged that God cannot repair. However, there are some things that can never be changed. For instance,  you cannot go back to the age you were last year, that age is gone forever. Also,  If you have had a child out of wedlock, you can't undo it. But you must remember that God specialises in turning ugly mess to a beautiful message.  Because the devil understands the brevity of man's life and the shortness of his own time too, he is deploying different means of ensuring that man wastes his time on things...

REMEMBER HIM

Text: Ecclesiastes 12:1. Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them. Have you ever wondered why Ecclesiastes 12:1 was addressed to youths and not to elderly ones? Well, the youthful age is the very foundation of one's life. It is about the most important stage of one's life. As much as God wants you to expend your strength and youth on Him, the devil is also working tirelessly to see that youth's strength is wasted on vanities. One of the devil's ploys is to ensure that the young folks has no desire for God or His things. This explains the reason for the increase in the many distractions prevalent in this generation. Everything is geared towards taking your heart away from God. The Preacher says remember your creator now that you are young and agile, before the evil days come. Many only remember  God after evil days have overtaken them and rarely before.  *A ti...

IN THE CROSS

Text: 1 Corinthians  1:18   For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. The cross is a means of crucifying criminals in ancient times. Crucifixion has been in existence long before the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. It was considered one of the most brutal and shameful modes of death. It probably originated with the Assyrians and Babylonians, and later it was introduced to Rome in the 3rd century BC. Jesus' death on the cross, connotes three major expressions in your life as a child of God: 1. *God's Divine Love For You:*   The only  surest means to ascertaining God's love over your life is the offering of His Son on the cross for your sins.  *Nothing more can assure you of God's love for you than the offering of His son on the cross.* Romans 5:8 says that _God commands his love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us._   *No matter where you ...

BEWARE OF DOGS

Text :  Philippians 3:2. Beware of the dogs! Beware of the evil workers! Beware of the mutilators! Usually, when you see the inscription "BEWARE OF DOGS", you instantly know there's a wild or trained dog around the corner, hence, the need to beware.  However, when God says 'Beware of dogs,' He wasn't actually referring to dogs as in 'animals' but to animals in human skin. Note that this caution was given to believers against other so-called  believers.  That is, some people within the church that we refer to as brothers and sisters are actually operating in the capacity of dogs.Though fellow worshippers in the church are called brothers and sisters, but if they behave like wild animals, know that they are dogs in humans skin- BEWARE. Matthew  7:6 says *Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.*  Essentially, dogs don't have capacity to r...
