Text. Romans 12:19.
Do not take revenge, dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me. I will pay them back, declares the Lord.”
Many people spend their lives hating others and planning for revenge. Many are living in bitterness because of many hurts they have received directly or indirectly. Bitterness has no friends. It takes its toll on its host and on those whom they love the most.
One of the subjects that Jesus laid emphasis on is the matter of forgiveness. He told us expressly in the Lord's prayer that the Father will forgive you your sins in as much as you also give forgiveness to others.
This is Because if you forgive people their offences, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (Matthew 6:14).
The reason many are living in bitterness and anguish is because they are not willing to forgive their offenders.
You will only open door to tormentors in your life when you choose to withhold forgiveness from people.
The truth is, you don't have the wherewithal to give commensurate payback to your offenders because that is exclusively God's purview.
Vengeance belongs to God. Don't take God's position. If you can fight for yourself, then God doesn't need to fight for you. But He says, " I will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." (Exodus 14:14).
Revenge is the devil's tactic to make you suffer twice for an offense you didn't originate. Don't cooperate with the devil in tormenting yourself because of unforgiveness and revenge.
Don't forget that vengeance is the Lord's.
O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongs; O God, to whom vengeance belongs, show thyself.(Psalms 94:1)
