LOOKING UNTO JESUS

Text. : Hebrews 12:2.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith: who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Today,  we shall be taking a closer look at some of the key words from our study text :

LOOKING This is a continuous tense  which suggests that what we are to do is not a one-off event. For you to succeed as a Christian,  you must continually fix your gaze upon Jesus. Keep looking unto Him.

UNTO JESUS: it is very easy to look at something else other than Jesus Christ.  We live in a world that is full of distractions; where every thing is calling and demanding for your attention. Some of these distractions come from social media, friends, families, sports, career, business, or even religious activities.

I know that quite a number of the things calling for your attention are truly legit,  but even amidst this, you are to fix your gaze upon Jesus, because He is the only one who can make all things work together for your good. (Romans 8:28).

At times, you may be tempted to shift our gaze from Jesus to your spiritual leaders. You must know that you are only to follow them as they follow Christ.*Your perfect example is Jesus Christ.  FIX YOUR GAZE ON HIM! (1 Corinthians. 11:1).

*THE AUTHOR*: The big question here is; Is Jesus the Author of your faith? That is,  is He the originator and beginner of your faith?  *Is your faith hinged on Jesus or on what Jesus offers?* Was there anytime you had an encounter with the person of Jesus Christ, which as a result  started you up on your faith journey?

If yes, congratulations.

If no, retrace your steps and receive Jesus as the author, and the beginner of your faith. You will be glad you did.

THE FINISHER : If Jesus Christ was the author of your faith,  only Him is qualified to be the finisher. That is, only Jesus Christ can finish what He started. He is the only one who can make you perfect in your Faith journey. He is the only one who can bring your faith to maturity.

It's a beautiful thing to believe in Jesus Christ; but to believe in Jesus and to accept Him as your Savior and Lord only makes you a beginner in the journey of Faith. You must therefore continue to the very end of the journey, and that is to attain Christlikeness.

In any race,  no beginner will be rewarded but only the finisher. This is because no man puts his hands on the plough and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.  (Luke 9:62). You must therefore endeavour to get to the end of your faith journey.

"Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls." (1 Peter 1:9).

As you continue to look up onto Jesus,  I  commend you to Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before His Presence.  (Jude 1:24).

 Bible reading :

 Hebrews 12:1-13.

 PRAYER FOCUS

1.) Father, I receive the grace to fix my gaze on Jesus Christ in all situations.

2.) Father God, I receive the Grace to finish strong in Jesus name.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

IN MY NAME.

Text : Mark 16:17-18  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Having believed in the gospel (Good news of the resurrection of Jesus and His victory over Sin, Satan and Death), you now need to start using the name of Jesus authoritatively. JESUS said that in His name you shall cast out devils; you shall speak with new tongues; you shall take up serpents; and if you drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt you; you shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. This means that you will undertake all these in the authority of Jesus' name. No matter how small or powerless you may think you are in your own eyes. Once you believe in His name, you shall do all that He promised.   Unbelief was the sin that Israelites committed that wasted a whol...
