JUST A TOUCH

Text : Mark 5:28.  because she had been saying, “If I can just touch his robe, I will get well.” The story was told about a woman who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years. Although she had endured a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all of her money, she had not been helped at all, but rather grew worse. Like this woman, many are suffering a great deal in the hands of many "pastors" and "prophets" today. Note that *whoever demands money before or after praying or prophesying  for you is a thief and a robber.*  Jesus said ' *Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.' Matthew 10:8.*   It's appalling what some so called men of  God are doing to ignorant people in the name of prayers, deliverance or prophecy.  Many are making merchandise of many today because they are yet to have a personal encounter with Jesus.  Without a personal encounter with...

DON'T BE A FOOL

Text : Ecclesiastes  7:9   Be not hasty in your spirit to be angry: for anger rests in the bosom of fools. If the bible says that anger rests in the bosom of fools, then we can safely say that anyone who easily throws off the handle (lose control of his emotions) is a fool. Today, we shall be looking at a number of ways by which you can overcome this weakness, which often than not makes one appear as a fool and eventually leading one to sin. Moses, the great deliverer of the nation of Israel once got angry with the Israelites to the point that he did not reverence the Lord before His people. This singular act of uncontrolled anger, made him to lose his passport into the promised land.   *Don't  ever justify your outburst of anger as a good reaction. Anger will never communicate anything right, rather it will always complicate the matter.*  Moses reacted (in anger) to the ungrateful attitude of the Israelites, and this prevented him from entering into t...

BE ANGRY AND SIN NOT!

Text : Ephesians 4:26 "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath.(NKJ) When you get angry, the tendency to commit sin is very high. Your goal then should be that you should get rid of anger. By putting it off, it looses its grip over you. Colossians 3:8 says that "you yourselves are to put off anger..." You have the sole responsibility of putting off anger. Putting off anger can mean to violently strip it, disarm it, or despoil it. When anger has been stripped of its power in your life, it will no longer drive you to sin. It is only at this point you can be angry and sin not. When the power of anger has been disarmed in your life, then you will receive grace not to allow the sun to go down on your wrath. (Ephesians 4:27). When you allow the sun to go down on your wrath, that means the anger has gotten hold of you for too long a time. The grip that anger or wrath has on you goes a long way in determining the duration of the anger whenever yo...

BE ANGRY!

Text : Ephesians 4:26 "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath. (NKJ)  *Anger in itself may not be a sin, it only produces sin when it is not under control.*  Anger is an emotional expression that often get hold of his victim, hence it often leads to sin. But if you can control this emotion, you will not only be a wise person, but you would have saved yourself from many unwarranted hurts and sorrows. The scripture instructed you not to be hasty in your spirit to be angry: for anger rests in the bosom of fools (Ecclesiastes  7:9). This verse also talks about your control over Anger.  Apostle Paul admonished the brethren in the church of Ephesus to be angry and not to sin. This is because when you allow anger to be expressed freely, it will always lead you to sin. You are told to always control your anger so as not to sin while expressing this emotional expression . New Living Translation  version of the study text renders it thus:...

ENVY 2

Text : 1 Corinthians 13:4.  Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited,  *Envy is a stronghold that is capable of leading her captive to hell if not checked.*  Cain killed his brother (Abel) out of envy, Genesis 4:8. King Ahab killed Naboth because he wanted his field for himself. (1 Kings 21:1-16). The high Priest and the rest handed Jesus over to be crucified out of envy. (Mark 15:10-13). The early Apostles were arrested and imprisoned out of envy (Acts 5:17-18). It's obvious that anyone  with envious spirit is capable of committing murder. Note that envy can operate in different ways. A rich man can envy a poor man, like in the case of Ahab and Naboth. So wealth and riches is not an antidote to envy. Also, it is common for sinners to envy a righteous man (as mentioned in the examples above). And the tendency for a righteous man to envy a sinner is also there. Proverbs  23:17 says  *Let ...

THINK ON THESE THINGS

Text: Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Today, we shall be looking at honesty as one of the things we are commended to give our thoughts to. The truth is who you truly are is contained in your thoughts. That's why proverbs 23:7 says as a man thinks in his heart so is he. Matthew 12:34 says from the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.  That is, what you say is also precipitated on what you have stored in your heart. What you have stored however, is based on what you have ruminated on over a period of time. Infact, all of these are  responsible for what you have in your subconscious.  Your subconscious is the realm where you are not really in control, but the stored information takes over and you speak or act accor...

ENVY

Text : 1 Corinthians 13:4.  Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited,  *Envy is one of the inherent nature of man. If not checked, it's capable of leading man to commit all sort of evil.*  James  3:16 says For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. The first murder act that was committed was as a result of envy. Cain, the first man to commit murder became furious because he was not accepted by God the way his brother Abel was. God noticed this attitude and decided to warn him.  _If you do what is appropriate, you’ll be accepted, won’t you? But if you don’t do what is appropriate, sin is crouching near your doorway, turning toward you. Now as for you, will you take dominion over it?”_ Genesis 4:7. Whenever you do inappropriate things, the devil will prompt you to go ahead and do a worse thing, but God is also close by warning through your conscience, the people ar...

SPECKS AND PLANKS

Text : Matthew 7:3. “Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? It's easier to judge others than to turn the touch on yourself by using the same yardstick to judge yourself. Imagine someone with a plank of wood in his eyes attempting to remove a speck in someone's eyes. Very hypocritical you will say.  But this is what many are doing today. Jesus asked a question, He says, “Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? Matthew 7:3. Again,  He asked, "... how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when the beam is in your own eye?"(Matthew 7:4) Why spend time and energy trying to diagnose and prescribe medications for another's problem when you are suffering from bigger problems without any effort to receive treatment.  Now, this is the verdict Jesus gave. the way that you judge others will be the way that you will be judged, and you will be...

PRAYING ARIGHT- 3

Text: James 4:3  You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. We have considered two contents of the protocol that are required for effective Praying. Today, we shall be looking at the last one. The three required protocols in praying aright are: 1. Knowing Who You Pray To: 2. Praise, Thanksgiving and Worship. 3. A broken and a contrite heart. The Psalmist says: *The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.* (Psalms  51:17). While the three contents of praying protocols are highly effective; either as combination or in unit, the most powerful and potent of the three is a broken and contrite heart. *God may despise many things, but a broken and contrite heart will He not despise.*  King David knew this secret about accessing God's presence. He was a man with a broken and contrite heart. Hence, Prophet Samuel called him 'a man after the Lord's heart' (1Samuel 13:14). ...

PRAYING ARIGHT! - 2

Text: James 4:3  You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Just as Queen Esther approached King Ahasuerus under strict adherence to the Kingdom's protocol, you are also expected to learn the necessary protocols in accessing God's presence. We looked at one of these protocols yesterday. It is the protocol of knowing the God of heaven whom you pray to.  Today, we shall be looking at the second protocol that will always enable you pray aright.  Psalms  100:4 highlights this protocol as *"Praise and Thanksgiving"* It says "Enter into his gates with _thanksgiving_ , and into his courts with _praise_ : be thankful unto him, and bless his name". The _Message version_ of the Bible renders it in an interesting way, it says: Enter with the password: Thank you!" Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him.*  Praise, thanksgiving and worship are major protocols for accessing God's presence un...

PRAYING ARIGHT

Text: James 4:3  You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. It is one thing to have a desire, it's another thing to know how to place your desire before the Lord in prayer.   Knowing how to present your desire (request) before the Lord is important to receiving answer to your request.  While you can choose to pray anywhere, at anytime and in any situation, you must learn to understand important and required protocols to accessing God's presence. If you don't understand this protocols, you will often pray amiss. Queen Esther, though married to King Ahasuerus, had to still observe protocols when she needed to access the king. If Queen Esther  had not observed the protocol, she would have lost her life or miss out on her request. In the same manner, *many are praying, but not many are praying aright.* The major challenge with many is not praying but praying aright. Today, we shall be looking at one of the protocols y...

ASSUMPTIONS

Text : Mathew 25:24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast no strawed Assumption has cheated many from entering into their destiny. Don't assume anything. Don't conclude matters without  clarifications. Assumptions has put  many good homes asunder. Many friendships have been seperated on the basis of assumption, many have lost great opportunities simply because of assumption. From our text, the servant that received one talent lost his place in the kingdom simply because he assumed.  He emphatically said, "I knew thee that thou art an hard man....." The question that readily comes to mind is: where did he get this information from? Who gave him this information about the master? No one, it was simply Assumption. He assumed the master was a hard man who likes to reap where he has not sown, and to gather where he has not strawed.  One may think...

REST IN PEACE

TEXTS: John 16:33   These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."  *Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest .*  Jesus promised us Rest and Peace, not in death but while we are still alive in this turbulent world. It is however unfortunate  how the enemy has deceived man into believing that his much needed Rest and Peace are only available in death.  You will often see the  inscription 'RIP' (Rest In Peace) on obituaries. A common saying in a particular cultural settings says that "The day of  death is the day of rest". No! This is a big lie, Jesus promised us in John  14:27 He says _Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. He also promised us His rest in Mathew 11:28. He gave...

KINDNESS

Text : 1 Corinthians 13:4.  Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited.  *Kindness,  just like love is a language understood by all.* Everyone knows what it means to be shown Kindness,  and everyone wants to receive Kindness.  But the question is, how often do you show kindness to others? Our text says, love is always kind. That is, if the seed of kindness is in you, it will constantly produce the fruit of Kindness. There will be no time that people will come around you and will not perceive the aroma of Kindness  oozing out of you continously.  You are expected to be kind to people not because they are kind to you but because of your kind nature. God is kind, and if you are His child, His DNA should run in you, and this should make you show kindness to people effortlessly.  Now, it's important to note that you don't need to have a very fat bank account to be kind to people....

BECAUSE OF YOU

Text : Act 27:22  But now I urge you to have courage, because there will be no loss of life among you, but only loss of the ship. While on voyage with over 270 people,  the ship carrying  Paul and the rest was caught in a violent storm. God however,  assured Paul that his life and the lives of everyone on board with him will be spared because of him. Miraculously,  God averted what ordinarily should have been a total shipwreck and saved over 250 souls because of Paul. Acts 27:20-24. All the people in the town of Zoar was spared from total destruction because of Lot. The Angel of the Lord that was sent to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah with all the surrounding towns assured Lot that he will not destroy the town of Zoar because of Lot. Every member of the household of the harlot who accommodated the Spies from Isreal was spared from death because of this prostitute.  This narrative is in the book of Joshua chapter two and three.  In the same vein, the whole ...

ARISE AND SHINE

Text : Isaiah 60:1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. If Jesus had said, let your light so shine..." He wouldn't be asking you to shine your light if He knew that you had none.*  Jesus instructed His followers to allow (let) their light so shine to the extent that men will see it and give glory to God. Jesus was simply reiterating what prophet Isaiah prophesied to the Isrealites in another manner. God commanded the Isrealites to arise and shine on the basis of the  arrival of their light, while in Mathew Jesus instructed His followers to allow their light shine. (Isaiah 60:1, Mathew 5:16). God's light, the bright and the morning star, Jesus Christ Himself is within you. And you need to shine Him for the world to see. What you do with the light(Jesus Christ) that you have received is your decision. You may decide to give Him expressions  by allowing Him to shine through you, or you may keep Him (the light) under the bushel. (...

SHINE YOUR LIGHT-2

Text : Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. It is time for you to arise and shine your light for the world to see. God dwells in light and He's got enough light oozing out from Him. Hence, He does not need your light to shine for Him to see, rather, He wants you to shine your light for men and the world, that they may see your good works. The book of First Timothy chapter 6 verse 16 described God as one "who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power."  When your light shines unto men, men in turn will give glory to God.  *The extent to which your light shines, is the extent to which men give God Glory.* That's the reason Jesus said,  _"let your light so shine..."_  *If you will not so shine your light, men will not see your good works. And if men do not see your good works, God will ...

SHINE YOUR LIGHT

Text : Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. The world is full of enough problem and darkness that you must not add yours to it, rather, you must seek to be the solution and light.  This has always been Jesus' intention during His earthly ministry. While He was on earth physically, He said, "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world" (John  9:5). This statement described Jesus' desire and purpose for His followers as well.  Jesus wanted His followers to be deliberate in shinning their light in this crooked and perversed world. This is because the world is in darkness. If you wouldn't shine your light, the darkness will continually grow thicker and thicker.  The statement "let your light so shine before men..." simply means that the choice of shinning God's light within you is up to you. You may or may not shine the light God has put within you. T...

DEGRADED MIND

Text : Romans 1:28. Furthermore, because they did not think it worthwhile to keep knowing God fully, God delivered them to degraded minds to perform acts that should not be done. When God is no longer your priority,  you will expend your time, energy and even life on degrading stuffs, The book of Romans was written to everyone who loves  God and who are called to be holy (Romans 1:7). So, if you love the Lord,  every instruction in this book is for you to adhere to. However, God's love is to all peoples of the earth. His desire is that all will see His great works and acknowledge Him as God. Hear what was recorded about them-  _What can be known about God is plain to them, because God himself has made it plain to them._ Romans 1:19. This is why Psalms 53:1 says only a fool can say there is no God.  For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible attributes—his eternal power and divine nature—have been understood and observed by what he made, so that people ...

THE PROMISE

Text: Acts 1:4 While he was meeting with them, he ordered them, “Don’t leave Jerusalem. Instead, wait for what the Father has promised, about which you heard me speak, No one can succeed as a Christian except through the help of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ commanded his disciples not to do anything nor go anywhere until they have received the promise of the Father. He knew that without receiving this promise, they can't achieve anything, in fact, they will fail outrightly.  Now, what promise did the father give?  In Joel 2:28 God says " And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:" At the fullness of time, God honored this prophecy in Acts chapter two. He sent the promised Holy Spirit to all that were waiting on Him for it. The 120 disciples at the upper room was  baptised in the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. This proves ...

PRAISE HIM

Text: Acts 16:25-26 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the jail were shaken, and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's chains came loose. While Paul and Silas went about preaching the gospel, casting out devils and healing the sick, they happen to deliver a girl from evil spirits. This got them into real trouble.  It did not go down well with the people who were making merchandise of the girl's life.  They plot how the Apostles will be imprisoned.  Eventually, they were imprisoned. Imprisoned for doing good for humanity. Imprisoned for obeying the commandment of God.  The most natural reactions to this injustice is bitterness, complaints and anger.  At best, if they have to pray, their prayer focus should be that God should deliver them and deal with their oppressors. But against all odds, THEY CHOOSE T...

IN THE CROSS

Text: 1 Corinthians  1:18   For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. The cross is a means of crucifying criminals in ancient times. Crucifixion has been in existence long before the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. It was considered one of the most brutal and shameful modes of death. It probably originated with the Assyrians and Babylonians, and later it was introduced to Rome in the 3rd century BC. Jesus' death on the cross, connotes three major expressions in your life as a child of God: 1. *God's Divine Love For You:*   The only  surest means to ascertaining God's love over your life is the offering of His Son on the cross for the sin of humanity.  *Nothing more can assure you of God's love for you than the offering of His son on the cross.Romans 5:8 says that _God commands his love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.  *No matter where you...

GET WISDOM-2

Text: Proverbs  4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Wherever you find God's wisdom, there you will also find true understanding and knowledge.  So, the scripture says in  Proverbs 7:4 "Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman".  *True wisdom of God is that which is entrenched in your heart and not in your head* (Proverbs 10:8). God's wisdom in your heart will bring understanding to your heart and mind as well (Job 38:36- NET). We highlighted the three major ways to accessing God's wisdom yesterday. Today, we shall be looking at the first means by which you can access pure wisdom from God- ASK. (James 1:5). One way by which King Solomon got his wisdom from God was simply by ASKING. He asked for wise and understanding heart in his dream.  Interestingly, God gave him what he asked for in his dream. I am sure that God who gave wisdom to a man who asked Him in a dr...
