Text : 1 Corinthians 13:4.
Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited,
*Envy is a stronghold that is capable of leading her captive to hell if not checked.*
Cain killed his brother (Abel) out of envy, Genesis 4:8. King Ahab killed Naboth because he wanted his field for himself. (1 Kings 21:1-16).
The high Priest and the rest handed Jesus over to be crucified out of envy. (Mark 15:10-13). The early Apostles were arrested and imprisoned out of envy (Acts 5:17-18).
It's obvious that anyone with envious spirit is capable of committing murder.
Note that envy can operate in different ways. A rich man can envy a poor man, like in the case of Ahab and Naboth. So wealth and riches is not an antidote to envy.
Also, it is common for sinners to envy a righteous man (as mentioned in the examples above). And the tendency for a righteous man to envy a sinner is also there.
Proverbs 23:17 says *Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.*
One thing that will deliver you from the grip of envy is the fear of the Lord. The moment you realised that your heart is lusting after another's properties, giftings or talents, know that envy is in operation and you must deal with it immediately.
Confess this evil desire to the Lord and ask Him to purge you of this evil spirit.
Bible Reading:Genesis 4:1-16.
