GOOD SUCCESS

Text : Jos 1:8.  *This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.*  Everybody wants good success. The mere mention of good success suggests that there are other kinds of successes that are not good. Good success however doesn't just come on a platter of nothingness, it comes at a price : 1. *God's law :* God Himself told Joshua that  His set of instructions should not cease to be a part of his conversations. *To have good success is to pay close attention to God's word in order to obey it.*  2. *Day and night meditation.* When Doctors give you medication to be taken morning and night, refusal to follow the prescription is to your own detriment. The same is so true for spiritual things. *Meditating on God's words should not be occasional but round the clock.*

CAREFUL OBSERVATION

Text : 1Kings 3:21 ISV   *The next morning, I got up to nurse my son, and he was dead. But when I examined him carefully in the light of day, he turned out not to be my son whom I had borne!”*  The story was told about two harlots who got pregnant at the same time and both gave birth to a boychild each. In the course of time, one of them mistakenly slept over her child till the baby dies.  Being a prostitute, chances are that she didn't even know who the father of the child was, yet, she couldn't bear to lose her child. She resolved to  stealing the child of her supposed roommate, who like her was equally a prostitute and an heavy sleeper too.  While her roommate was sleeping, she exchanged her dead son with the living one of her partner. This evil would have gone unnoticed but for the carefulness of the later prostitute.  While reporting the incident to the king she said: "The next morning, I got up to nurse my son, and he was dead. But when I examined him carefully in

SINKING SAND

Text : Mat 7:24.  *Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:*  I am sure you are familiar with this popular but ever inspiring hymn by Edward Mote : My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame But wholly lean on Jesus' name On Christ the solid rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand All other ground is sinking sand... One line that struck a big cord with me in the hymn is "All other ground is sinking sand." I need you to take time to reflect on this statement. All other ground is sinking sand. If you are fully persuaded that all other ground is sinking sand, then, why do you strive so much to stand on sinking sand?  For some, 'the other ground' is education, for others, it is religion, money, fame, career, power, children and the list is endless. However, every other ground apart from Jesus is a s

DON'T BE A FOOL(2)

Text :Proverbs 3:7   *Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.*  For King Solomon( the wisest king that ever lived apart from Jesus) to have admonished you to trust in the Lord with all of your heart, it implies that: 1. Your heart has the capacity to trust many things and many people at the same time. But this would yield no good result. For no one can look up and down at the same time. Joshua 24:15, 2 King 10:31, Jer 2:28. 2.Your heart can be compartmentalized. *God wants the whole of your heart in one piece and not in bits and pieces.* Jer,29:13 3. Your heart can waver between two or more options.James 1:7-8.  The reason your heart takes all of the above postures is because of the interference of your understanding. God does not want you to lean on your own understanding,. *God wants you to lean on Him both for the supply and proper usage of the understanding He has given you.*  For instance, David conquered Goliath not because he had the best weapon, bu

DON'T BE A FOOL

Text :Proverbs 3:7   *Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.*  One of the temptations the serpent used to capture man in the garden of Eden was the quest for wisdom(Pride of life). The serpent said to Eve that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil would open their eyes and make them become like gods.  Then, Eve beheld the fruit as that which is pleasant to make one wise. Gen.,3:1-6.  The scenario above was the very _source_ and _beginning_ of man's quest for wisdom. From this time on, man fell into the trap of seeking wisdom outside of God. Eve saw the fruit on the tree as pleasant, and such that could make one wise. Immediately they took of the fruit, their eyes got OPENED. This kind of eye-opening was a type of wisdom that has made man to be nothing but NAKED. Man did not only die but lost the coverings(Glory)of God. This explains why man always seek for wisdom to help himself outside of God.   The simple reason you always want to plan things

GOD'S EYE GLASSES

Text : Psalms 90:12    *So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom*   *One major teaching every man needs, is the wisdom to know how to number his days* . It takes God's grace and wisdom upon a man to be able to know that he is not going to be here(on earth) forever. Hence, you need to learn how to apply your heart unto wisdom. To do this, you need God's eye glasses. This will help you to start seeing and doing things in light of ETERNITY.  *Though man is living in TIME, but he is an ETERNAL being*  The Hebrew word *'manah'* which was translated as *number* in Psalm 90:12 can also mean to consider, count or prepare. So we can read the verse thus:  _Teach us to count our days....._   _Teach us to consider our days....._   _Teach us to prepare our days....._  This means that your stay on this side of eternity is within a very short time frame. Hence, you need the teachings of God to be able to count, consider and prepare it.  If you

TREASURES

Text : Math. 6:19-20 ISV  “ *Stop storing up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.*   *But keep on storing up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal.*  Everybody wants treasures, lots of treasures. But let's see the two things Jesus commanded His disciples to do with treasures : 1. *Stop storing up treasures for yourselves on earth.* Jesus understands that inherent in man is the desire to accumulate treasurers. The reason some people are working their souls out, is so they could amass for themselves lots of treasures. In fact, some are ready to kill and be killed in the process. There is an insatiable appetite in man, this explains why people keep accumulating (albeit through clean or dubious means) and yet are never satisfied. However, the only thing(BEING) that can fill the void in man is God.  This is why Jesus told His disciples to stop

CUT THAT ROPE

Text : Pro 3:5-6 ISV   *Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not depend on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.*   *A number of times, God commands you to do things that doesn't make sense to you, because your sense is too limited to contain the wisdom of God.*  The story was told of two Mountain climbers who for reasons best known to them were on the mountain at night during winter. Accidentally, the rope of one of them fell off from the rock, and he was left dangling in the air amidst rocks on a very snowy night.  When it was obvious that there was nothing else he could do, he decided to cry out to God for help. God responded to his cries and told him to cut the rope.  "Cut that rope" God told him each time he cried to Him, but the man responded loudly that " if I cut the rope, I will die." For the very last time, he cried to God again, and God told him again to cut the rope, but his

MOTIVES

Text: 1 Sam. 16:6-7  *When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and said, "certainly the Lord's anointed one is here before Him".*   *But the Lord said to Samuel, " Do not look at his appearance or his stature, because I have rejected him. Man does not see what the Lord sees, for man sees what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart".*  God told Prophet Samuel to anoint a man for Him as king over Israel from the house of Jesse.  Jesse was a Bethlehemite with eight sons. When Samuel told Jesse to bring out all his sons so he can anoint one of them as king over Israel. Jesse brought out his first seven sons. The truth is, Jesse is the only one that knows why he intentionally left out his last son. But I can opined thus- probably because he felt the boy was too young, so he will be inexperienced to qualify as a king. However, the bottom line is, even David's biological father disqualified him.  It doesn't matter how many times or how many people have dis

REAL HOPE 2

Text : Eph 1:18   *The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,*   *No one can come into the understanding of what REAL HOPE is without first having his eyes of understanding enlightened* . Eye is an essential part of the body. Hear what Matthew 6:22-23 has to say about eyes: “The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light . But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. Therefore, if the light within you has turned into darkness, how great is that darkness!” So the eye determines what happens to the whole body. Now, everyone has two dimensions of eyes, the physical eyes, and the spiritual eyes. Since Adam and Eve fell, everyone's spiritual eyes became blinded by reason of the spiritual death that occurred. whenever anyone comes to God through Jesus Christ, he becomes quickened from the

HE CARES

Text : 1Peter 5:7  *Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.*  Everybody wants to be cared for. But in reality, no one can care for you unconditionally all the time. The only person that has the capacity to carry all your burdens and worries and give you lasting comfort without any strings attached is Jesus Christ.  Now, the devil has cunningly and very silently made man to believe that no one really cares, not even Jesus. *When you are consumed with your worries and cares you may not see His love and care for you.*  Today, the Lord will have me tell you that *He cares.* The only thing He is expecting from you, is to throw all your worries on Him. *Tell God about all the things that make you sad or afraid or angry. Give your thoughts about those things to him and let them remain with him. Do this, because you matter to him.* 1Pe 5:7 EasyEnglish. Psalms 55:22 says, Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be move

KINDNESS

Text : Col 3:12.  *Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.*  Kindness is a reflection of God's attitude towards us. *so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Eph. 2:ESV*  God's Grace and Love is expressed in His kindness towards us.  A kind person is one who is sensitive to the feelings of others and is always looking for opportunities to perform kindly act.  The word philanthropy is taken from the Greek word " *philanthropia* " That is the same word that defines kindness. So a kind person is a philanthropist. He is full of benevolence.  *Every philanthropist may not be a disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ, but every disciple must be a philantropist* . We saw yesterday that the Samaritan had compassion on the victim that was robbed on his way to Jericho. It was compassion that made him extend kindness to t

COMPASSIONATE HEART

Text : Col 3:12.  *Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.*  We shall be looking at the various cloths we are advised to put on as the elect, holy and beloved of God. Today, we shall be considering the very first cloth you are to put on which is: *Compassionate heart.*  This is one cloth that makes your heart tender and pliable. When you put on this cloth, you respond to God's gentle touch and nudge. Hence, you become tenderhearted. Empathising with people around you becomes easier.  It is this kind of heart that makes it possible for Jesus (our High Priest) to be able to understand the feelings of our infirmities. He felt what we are feeling. Hebrew 4:15. The parable of Jesus on who your neighbour is spelt out what a compassionate heart (tenderheartedness) is.   _And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite,

PUT OFF

Text : Col 3:8.  *But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.*  Every man is wearing garment in his soul, the difference is what a regeneratef man is wearing is or should be different from what an unregenerated wears.  As a matter of fact, when God looks at us, He sees us through these garments. Jesus mentioned some folks in Sardis who haven't soiled their garments.   *But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me in white clothes because they are worthy.Rev 3:4.* These people are worthy because they did not defile their garments.  Again, He said Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.Rev 16:15. So it is clear that a Christian is one that is clothed in garment which should not be soiled. Jesus is coming for a bride without wrinkle.  That he might present it to himself a glorious chur

CLOTHE YOURSELF

Text : Col 3:12.  *Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.*  Responsibility is laid on you as God's elect to cloth yourself. No one will put the clothe on you, not even the Holy Spirit, but YOURSELF.  Well, before we look into the garments you are to clothe yourself with, it is imperative to note that no sane person wears two or three dresses together and posed himself as 'well dressed'.  Rather, to be well dressed, you must remove your former dress and put on a new attire.  The same thing applies in the Spirit. To be properly clothed, you must have put off your former clothing. Verse eight of colossians three spelt out the things you must put off.  But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.Col 3:8. It will interest you to know that this book of Colossian was written to believers in Christ.  " *To the saints and fai

GOOD FIGHT

Text : 1Tim 6:12.  *Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.*  When you are able to fight the good fight of faith, then you will be able to lay hold on eternal life. This is why it is called GOOD FIGHT. Whatever you do that advances you to lay hold on eternal life must be good indeed.  The word of God instructs us to contend earnestly for the faith which was delivered unto us.  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.Jude 1:3. This is a strong warning for the wise to yield to - *EARNESTLY CONTEND* Because, if you are not watchful, this faith can slip away from you. Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.Heb 2:1.

FIGHT

Text : 1Tim 6:12.  *Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.*  This is the only fight you are permitted to engage in as a child of God -The good fight of faith. To fight is to contend as in conflict for something or someone.  This suggests that there is a conflict going on over you as far as your faith is concerned. Now, the fact that you are oblivious of this fight doesn't make it less of a fight, rather, it only makes you more vulnerable to be a prey. Hence, the first step towards fighting a good fight of faith is knowledge: First, you must know that you are in a fight.  Secondly, you must know how to equip yourself with the necessary weapons of war.  We are told in 2Cor. 10:4 & 5 that the weapons of our warfare are not those of the world. Instead, they have the power of God to demolish fortresses. We tear down arguments and every proud obstacle that is raised agai

DON'T FORGET

Text: Deuteronomy 8:11  *But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today.*  (AMP version) Many folks find It easier to remember the Lord during difficult and trying times than when they are living and basking in comforts and plenty. Infact, this is the reason some go to church. They go to church to simply 'consult God' to help solve their problems. Once they receive some ease from their PROBLEMS, they just ease God out of their lives as well. That is the time they get busy and no time for God anymore.  Human beings are naturally dubious in nature. When they are in need, they will make all kinds of promises to God: Lord if you give me this job, I will serve you all the days of my life; if you give me a child he will serve you like Samuel; if you give me this and that I will be in church everyday of the week. These and more are the promises some folks

CONSIDER YOUR NEIGHBOUR

Text: Romans 15:2   *_Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification_* . The amplified version renders this text in a more explanatory manner.   *Let each one of us make it a practice to please (make happy) his neighbor for his good and for his true welfare, to edify him [to strengthen him and build him up spiritually* ]. As much as you may not be accountable to all your neighbours, you need to know that you have a responsibility towards all your neighbours. As a believer, you have the responsibility of living in such a way that your neighbour is edified or built up spiritually. You will often hear some folks say: "I don't care whatevever anyone is saying about me, in as much as God is pleased with me" This statement can be a correct and valid one in a case where you are being gosspied or slandered. But if you live in a such a way that offends and repels your neighbours from advancing in their faith walk or you are giving your unbelieving neighbour

IT IS FINISHED

TEXT:John 19:30.  *When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.*  Jesus declared it is finished because He has accomplished His own part of the deal. It is now left for the Father(God) to raise Him. Having pleased and trusted His Father, Jesus committed Himself into the Father's hands:  _And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.Luke 23:46_   God kept His deal by not leaving His soul in Hell.  _For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption Psalms 16:10_  On the cross, Jesus finished: 1. *SIN:* God poured His wrath for Sin on His Son on the cross. Man was reconciled back to God through His death.(Rom 5,:10). Jesus drank all the cup of the Father's wrath. He became sin for us (2Cor. 5:21). The Father offered the son as a sacrifice for our sin. He was made a
