COMPASSIONATE HEART

Text : Col 3:12.

*Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.*

We shall be looking at the various cloths we are advised to put on as the elect, holy and beloved of God.

Today, we shall be considering the very first cloth you are to put on which is: *Compassionate heart.*

This is one cloth that makes your heart tender and pliable. When you put on this cloth, you respond to God's gentle touch and nudge. Hence, you become tenderhearted. Empathising with people around you becomes easier.

It is this kind of heart that makes it possible for Jesus (our High Priest) to be able to understand the feelings of our infirmities. He felt what we are feeling. Hebrew 4:15.

The parable of Jesus on who your neighbour is spelt out what a compassionate heart (tenderheartedness) is.

_And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. *But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him*(Luke 10:31-33)_

The Priest and Levite saw the wounded man, looked on him and passed on the other side. These two religious individuals who saw the man in need but crossed to the other side had no compassionate heart. They were only religious bigots and hard-hearted Jews! Meanwhile, the Samaritan had compassion on the wounded man. And he took certain steps as described in Luke 10:33-35 which we also need to imitate:

1. The Samaritan moved closer....( He walked into the situation). When you find yourself in certain situation in which God simply wants you to lend your commpassionate heart, it is expected that you don't look away.

2. He saw him....( He saw the needy situation). How many needy situations do you see on a daily basis that you look away from, not because you do not have capacity to help, but for the absence of a compassionate heart.

3. He had compassion on him.....He responded with a tender heart.

4. He went to him.....( He took a step further to critically access the situation).

5. He bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine. The Samaritan took an action by providing comfort and help.

6. And set him on his own beast.....( He provided him a lift from his situation).

7.And brought him to an inn, and took care of him.(The Samaritan brought healing to the wounded man).

8. And on the next day when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host.(He foot the bills. *compassion at times might cost you money, time and resources* ).

*Compassionate heart is always a sacrificial heart....always willing to pay the price no matter the cost.*

*A genuine compassionate heart always results in ACTION. Otherwise, it only remains a pity.*

 *PRAYER FOCUS*

1. Ask the Lord to give you grace to put on a compassionate heart.

Bible Reading: Luke 10: 29-36.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

WHEN GOD IS SILENT(2)

Text: Matthew 4:1  *Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.*  We saw yesterday that God was not pleased with many israelites that left Egypt for the promised land  (Corinthians 10:5).  A good percentage of the Israelites were overthrown in the wilderness.   Wilderness experience is not what any child of God desires, but it is an experience God sends or allows his children go through. In Deuteronomy 8:2, God says that He *LED* the Isrealites through the wilderness for forty years to humble them, to prove them, and to know what was in their heart whether they would keep his commandments or not.  Our Lord Jesus Christ was also *LED* into the wilderness by the Spirit of the Lord to be tempted by the devil. You will  notice there is a similar feature of the number *40(forty)* between these two wilderness experiences. That is, that of the Israelites and our Lord Jesus Christ. The Israelites spent 40years, Jesu...
