TREASURES

Text : Math. 6:19-20 ISV

“ *Stop storing up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.*

*But keep on storing up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal.*

Everybody wants treasures, lots of treasures. But let's see the two things Jesus commanded His disciples to do with treasures :

1. *Stop storing up treasures for yourselves on earth.* Jesus understands that inherent in man is the desire to accumulate treasurers. The reason some people are working their souls out, is so they could amass for themselves lots of treasures. In fact, some are ready to kill and be killed in the process. There is an insatiable appetite in man, this explains why people keep accumulating (albeit through clean or dubious means) and yet are never satisfied. However, the only thing(BEING) that can fill the void in man is God.

This is why Jesus told His disciples to stop storing up treasures for themselves on earth. Regardless of how far you have gone in your track of storing up earthly treasures, Jesus is saying *STOP* . Because everything here, is susceptible to corruption and destruction.

2. *Keep on storing up treasures for yourselves in heaven.* It's obvious that Jesus is not against storing treasure after all, His concern is the location of your store. While He wants you to stop storing treasures here on earth, He actually expects you to keep storing treasures for yourself in heaven.

The simple logic is, the time and resources opened to you here on earth are actually expected to be converted into treasures for you in heaven.

Jesus told the rich young man who came to Him in Matthew 19 that, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell what you own and give the money to the destitute, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come back and follow me.”Mat 19:21 ISV.

So, it is clear that to have treasures stored up in heaven is to use your resources in helping the destitutes and advancing His kingdom while here on earth. Little wonder Prov. 19:17 says *He that has pity upon the poor lend unto the LORD; and that which he has given will he pay him again.*

*Real treasures are the investments you make in people and not in the things you possess.*

Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life is not consisted in the abundance of the things which he possesse.Luk 12:15.

*Use your earthly goods and possession to secure lasting treasures for yourself in eternity.* Note that the value of what you give is not in the quantity but in proportion with what you have. Remember the widow's mite.

*The value of what you give is not measured by how much you give, but from how much you gave.*

And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. Mark 12:42-43.

Hence, don't wait till you become the richest guy in town before you give alms or before you give for the advancement of the kingdom. Give from whatever you are blessed with now, and keep storing up your treasures in heaven.

*Your true Net worth is not how much you are able to garner here, but how much you are able to store up in heaven.*

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

WHEN GOD IS SILENT(2)

Text: Matthew 4:1  *Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.*  We saw yesterday that God was not pleased with many israelites that left Egypt for the promised land  (Corinthians 10:5).  A good percentage of the Israelites were overthrown in the wilderness.   Wilderness experience is not what any child of God desires, but it is an experience God sends or allows his children go through. In Deuteronomy 8:2, God says that He *LED* the Isrealites through the wilderness for forty years to humble them, to prove them, and to know what was in their heart whether they would keep his commandments or not.  Our Lord Jesus Christ was also *LED* into the wilderness by the Spirit of the Lord to be tempted by the devil. You will  notice there is a similar feature of the number *40(forty)* between these two wilderness experiences. That is, that of the Israelites and our Lord Jesus Christ. The Israelites spent 40years, Jesu...
