Text: Psalms 92:12. The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. God doesn't say or do things haphazardly. He has a purpose for everything He says and does, and the same goes for every comparison He makes. If He likened us to any animal or plant, it is because of the inherent nature of such creatures. For instance, God called His children sheep and the false prophets, wolves. Matthew 7:15. Obviously,  this is because of what these animals represent.  At no point in the scripture did God likened His children to the serpent or any of such cunning and dirty creatures, except when He told us to be wise as Serpent and be harmless as doves, Matthew 10:16. He painstakingly used these comparison for obvious reasons- their inherent characteristics.  Hence, wisdom demands that, as a good Bible student  you should take time to look into whatever animal or plant symbolism that God uses. Text: John 10:10. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Very clearly, Jesus Christ declared in John 14:6 that "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." That is, anyone who is in Christ is on the way to the father.  Again, He said in John  10:7  that, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep."  Jesus Christ is not just the way to the Father, He is also the door to the sheepfold. Anyone who claims to be taking people to the Father (God) without taking them through the door who is Jesus Christ is a thief and a robber. Jesus Christ says, “Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, the person who doesn’t enter the sheepfold through the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a bandit. John 10:1. Text: Matthew 23:13.  “How terrible it will be for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door to the kingdom from heaven in people’s faces. You don’t go in yourselves, and you don’t allow those who are trying to enter to go in. Did you know that some human beings have the capacity to shut the door  to the kingdom of God from others? Well, this is exactly what Jesus Christ said about the scribes and Pharisees. He said they won't go into the kingdom themselves and they will still block others from going in. As far as these scribes and Pharisees are concerned, their fate is sealed already, so we are not focusing on them, rather, the focus is on you. Why would you allow anyone to block you from entering into God's kingdom? Today, we rarely call them scribes and  Pharisees, they are the ones we call 'Prophets' and 'Pastors' or anyone who uses the name of God to detar men from seeing or entering the kingdom. Text: Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Having made it very clear that the simplest way to overcome the influence of Hell is through the fear of the Lord, today, we shall be taking a closer look at our study text. Like it was mentioned yesterday that Jesus Christ never preached hell at sinners but only to His disciples and the religious leaders of His days.  The reason may not be far fetched, while sinners are already in hell, believers are taught about hell in order to pull the sinners out of hell, and for them not to slide back into hell through careless living. One of the scriptures that vividly painted the reality of Hell is our study text (Luke 16). Jesus never mentioned this story as a parable. Text: Matthew 10:28 *And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.*  One of the topics that you hardly hear in the the church today is Hell or Hell fire. It is also a topic that has been overstressed and erroneously taught in some quarters.  Today, we trust the Holy Spirit to give us His grace to be able to rightly divide this truth without swinging on either side of the extremes mentioned above.  Not to warn people about hell and hell fire is one extreme. Erroneous teachings about seeing some Christians or preachers in hell is also another extreme. Some preachers today are experts in seeing many people in hell fire. We are to preach the gospel which saves from hell and hell fire, it's not our duty to be judging or condemning the people of God or even the sinners to hell. Text: Luke  12:40   Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." Since the coming of the Son of man is going to be an hour when men do not expect, it is very certain that many shall be found unprepared. In order that you as His beloved son may not be found unprepared, Jesus had asked you to do three things. We shall be looking into these things  in detail one after the other. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is.(Mark 13:33). 1. **Take Heed* :* To take heed is to discern. It can also mean to be able to discern, or pay personal attention to yourself. In order not to miss the coming of the Son of man, you must daily engage in self-examination so as to discern your position in Christ Jesus. This statement  was neither made to the unchurched nor to the unbelievers, but to the disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. He warned them to be ready for His second coming because He would be coming at an unexpected time. And the same instruction extends to every follower of our Lord Jesus Christ today.   The gospel of Mark recorded Jesus' statement about His unexpected arrival and the required readiness of His disciples as well. He said to them: "Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning— lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. *And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!"* (Mark 13:33-37).
