HOSPITALITY

Image
Text : I’ll have some water brought to wash your feet while you rest under the tree. I’ll bring some food for you, and after that you may continue your journey, since you have come to visit your servant.” So they replied, “Okay! Do what you’ve proposed .” Hebrews  13:2  says *Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. This was exactly what Abraham did, he entertained angels without realising it. Unlike Abraham, many have used bad attitude  to send their destiny helpers away, beware. As Abraham was sitting near the entrance to his tent during the hottest part of the day,  the LORD appeared to him by the oaks belonging to Mamre. Genesis 18:1. However,  Abraham didn't know it was the Lord, he thought he was dealing with some strangers. He glanced up and saw three men standing there, not far from him. As soon as he noticed them, Abraham ran from the tent entrance to greet them and bowed low to the ground. Genesis 18:2. The first step to

A FRIEND INDEED

Text: Proverbs. 27:17. Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens a friend’s character. I am sure you are familiar with the cliche : 'A friend in need is a friend indeed.'  This is so true. Challenging times are the true test of friendship. Everyone needs true friendship but not everyone knows how to be a true friend.  ```A man that hath friends must show himself friendly:and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.``` Proverbs  18:24.  *The golden rule of life says, do unto others what you want others to do unto you.* So, as much as you want true friendship, you must be ready to be a true friend to someone because basically, we attract who we are. Because of the need for friendship or a need to be accepted, many have landed themselves in a hellish  relationship. Remember, *it takes iron to sharpen iron, if you are an iron, don't befriend a wood, else you will become blunt.*  However,  it is good to note that true friendship can only be found in Jesus. There's

WHEN YOU PRAY-3

Image
Text : Luke 11:2 "When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven..." Prayer is sacrosanct for every well-meaning believers, it is never an option. In response to His disciples' request on how to pray, Jesus started by saying, "when you pray...." Notice that He didn't say "if you pray", because "if" is a conditional statement,  but He said "when" because He knew prayer is a must for all Christians.  Don't be deceived by the many fake prophets and pastors prevalent in our days today. They have positioned themselves like 'prayer contractors' to lazy and undiscerning Christians, so they can milk them for money. If Jesus did not stop His disciples from praying directly to God, then no pastor should stop you from talking directly to your Father. It is a mixture of insolence and stupidity to give money to someone so they can pray for you or see a vision for you. Anyone in such habit is not different from an u

WHEN YOU PRAY-2

Image
Text : Luke 11:2 "When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven..." Knowing your relationship with God is a major key in prayer. When you Know and approach God as your Father, it helps you reach out to Him with a deep sense of intimacy. Hence, effective praying is guaranteed. Before you pray to God, you must be well assured of  your relationship with Him as that of Father-child relationship. Having established the fact that God is your Father, the second important factor to note is your Father's location. He is our Father who is in heaven. Our Father in heaven.... He is not the earthly father who has limitation based on where he resides. This Father resides in heaven, hence He is not in anyway incapacitated by anything on earth or in heaven. He is sufficient! He is more than enough! He lives forever! The location of your Father reveals the power and resources at His disposal. When you pray to Him, you must know that He's bigger than all the devils in h

WHEN YOU PRAY

Image
Text : Luke 11:2 "When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven..." The disciples of Jesus came to Him asking that He should teach them how to pray just as John taught his disciples. (Luke 11:1). In response to the disciples, Jesus gave them the curriculum for effective Praying.  We shall be considering few details of this content.  When you pray, the very first thing you must know is that your God is also the Father of many other children. Hence, Jesus identified Him as "Our Father". Don't allow some so called men of God beguile you with their bigotry, making you feel they are special than other children of God. Well, Jesus said you should say, "Our Father". That simply connotes that God is a Father to as many that would come to Him with an open and  sincere heart.  Our God is neither a partial God nor a respecter of persons. Apostle Peter said in Acts 10:34 & 35 that "...God is no respecter of persons, but in every nation he that fears H

THE GREATEST-2

Image
Text :  Matthew 22:37-38. Jesus told him, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind”*  This is the greatest and most important commandment. God is a jealous God, and He would never share His glory with any. Infact, the bible says that His name is  JEALOUS!  For you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God._ Exodus 34:14. Just as no man likes to share his wife with another man, in the same manner and much more, God does not like to share your heart, soul and mind with any other person or thing. He wants it all for Himself.  God never takes second place. He is the first, and He will always want to be the first in your life.  *Choosing to love God with all of your being is simply choosing life.*  When you intentionally fall in love with God, you've simply fall in love with Life!  God is a Spirit, hence the parameter for loving Him is not primarily based on the externalities, but on the inne

THE GREATEST

Text :  Matthew 22:37-38. Jesus told him, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” This is the greatest and most important commandment. One of the best resolve you can make this new year is to follow the wisdom of the greatest commandment.  This is one of the few occasions where Jesus answered a question directly. A scribe asked Him which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. Jesus could have said all the commandments of the law are of equal importance,  but without mincing words, He answered that Love is the greatest.  Romans 13:10 says *Love never does anything that is harmful to its neighbor. Therefore, love is the fulfillment of the Law.* That is, once you are perfected in love, you would have fulfilled all the law. If your desire is to please t

ENCUMBERED-2

Text :  Luke 10:40.  But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me. Martha felt she was doing the right thing so much so she told Jesus to command her sister to join her. One of the most dangerous foes to fight in christendom is the spirit of religion. Mary was busy listening to the Master's words, while Martha was busy preparing food that the master will eat. To a natural man, the two of them were doing the right thing. But when Martha was offended that her sister didn't join her, hear Jesus' response to her: The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha! You worry and fuss about a lot of things. But there’s only one thing you need. Mary has chosen what is better, and it is not to be taken away from her. Luke 10:41-42. Obviously, many are still following Martha's style today. They worry and fuss about many things. (To fuss is to be encumbered with e

Text :  Luke 10:40.  But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. You can be rightfully wrong in serving God, so watch out. A number of times, when I ask people if they are 'born again", their responses show that we have many professing Christians today who are rightfully wrong. Being a worker in the church or being encumbered with one activity or the other does not qualify you to be a child of God.  You only become God's child by birth or adoption through Jesus Christ. It is after this that your activities can yield reward in His presence.  Martha was encumbered with much service so as to entertain Jesus in her home. This service hindered her from paying attention to what Jesus had to say. You don't need to entertain Jesus with your service, rather you should honour Him with your life. One good thing you will do for yourself this year is t

EARS AND EYES

Text : Luke 8:11 “ Now this is what the parable means. The seed is God’s word. One of the striking stories that Jesus gave in describing the mystery of the kingdom is the parable of the Sower and the seed.  Jesus categorically stated that the matters of the kingdom is a mystery, and it will remain a mystery to all those who are not disciples of Christ.* But for you,  the mystery is unraveled.   He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.Mat 13:11. It is only wise to give attention to what has been given to you to know about the mystery of the kingdom. To this end, we shall be looking at what  Jesus really wanted us to know about the kingdom in relations to the seed.  Suffice it to say that as long *as you are counted among the multitude, the best you will ever  get from Jesus is parables (coded language). Parables profits you nothing,(if you are not given the interpretation) yet ma

DO WHAT YOU HEAR!

Image
Text: Matthew 7:26 "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. It is simply foolishness  when you hear so much, and you do next to nothing about what you've heard. Wisdom is only found with those who hear and act on what they've heard. It is also self deception for you to keep hearing God's words every now and then without making necessary adjustment under the grace of the revealed truth. James chapter 1 verse 22 encourages us not just to be hearers only. *"But be  doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves"*   *Until what you have heard is translated into action, you have not truly heard anything.*  Jesus likened those who hear His words without acting on them as being foolish . Though no one will ever agree to be tagged as being foolish, but the truth is  we sometimes act foolishly by disobeying God's instructions which offer us great

BUSYNESS-2

Image
Text: John 5:19  Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. Jesus' daily schedule is always drawn according to the Father's schedule. He sees what the Father is doing, and He does  same. Extreme busyness will always prevent you from being able to lie down in green pasture. And *if you cannot lie down before your God in green pasture, your soul cannot be restored*(Psalms 23:2-3). Jesus  christ will always wake up early to consult with His Father before He starts the day (Mark 1:26). This habitual practice helped Jesus to always see and know what the Father is doing.  Jesus declared Himself free from human initiated and futile  busyness by declaring that He can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do.  So many today aren't interested in what the Father is doing but only in what they want to do.  Whe

BUSYNESS

Text: John 5:19  Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.  *"Busyness kills more Christians than bullets"- Kevin DeYoung*  Kevin DeYoung further said in his book, crazy busy, that "The presence of extreme busyness in our lives may point to deeper problems – a pervasive people pleasing, a restless ambition, a malaise of meaninglessness. “Busyness serves as a kind of existential reassurance, a hedge against emptiness,”  Many have wrecked their health either in the name of legit or non legit busyness. This health would include their spiritual, mental and relational well being.  While some are forming busy in order to excuse themselves from  the true and most important engagement with their Maker, some are truly busy pursuing shadows.  It is interesting to know that you can even be too busy for God

IN CHRIST

Image
Text : 2 Corinthians 5:17. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. It is clear from our text that *two things will happen to anyone who is in Christ. First,  Old things will pass away and all things will become new.*   *You can't wish old things away, and you can't confess new things into existence, these can only happen IN CHRIST.*  Sheer determination and strong self will can't deal with the Old man in you. The old man is not your age mate, he has been around before you came on the scene, so you can't win him with your senses. You can only overcome the old man and his properties through Christ.  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.Rom 6:6.  *If your old man is not crucified with Christ, your body will continue to run errands for sin.*  Having given your life to Christ,

BECAUSE HE SAID SO

Image
Text : Numbers 23:19. God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? He said you will live and not die. Psalms 118:17. Because He said so, you have no appointment with the spirit of death this year and beyond.  He said His thought towards you are thoughts of good and not evil to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11. Because He said so, don't settle for any evil prophecy over your life. If anyone had given you any evil prophecy this year or any time in the past, stand on the word of God and reverse every evil proclamation spoken into your life. It is time to uproot every tree in your life that is not planted by your heavenly Father. Matthew 15:13. He said He will contend with those who contend with you and He will save your children. Isaiah 49:25. That is, even as a child of God, you will have contenders, yet He said He Himself wil

HE SAID SO-2

Text : Numbers 23:19. God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?*  This year, like every other year, will be full of ups and downs, but when men are saying there's a casting down, you shall say there's a lifting up. This year, the Lord's words to you are that you will do great exploits. However,  there's a caveat to this promise- .... _but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits._ Daniel 11:32. That is, to do great exploits, you must know your God.   And one way to know God is to know and obey His words.  Invariably,  your knowledge of God's words and your obedience to them is essential to the fulfilment of His promises in your life. What you don't know is above you. Just yesterday after a very long day, I sat in the car very famished and even commented out loud that I'm very hungry, not know

HE SAID SO

Text : Numbers 23:19. God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? If you can bank on God's word the way you have believed some people's words, you'll lead a more beautiful life.  I remembered how I unflinchingly relied on a promise made to me by a mere man some years back. I kept telling people that on so and so date my package will land.  Other people offered to give me a substitute but I refused. I was sure my promised package will come on the given date. Lo and behold,  till today, I haven't received what I  was promised. It was after the time frame given had expired that the Lord spoke quietly to my heart that "If you can rely on my words the same way you relied on this man's promise, you will never be disappointed.  Today, I'm sharing this experience because God wants you to know that He's not a man, He can't fail. BE EXPECTANT-2

Image
Text : Proverbs  23:18.   For surely there is an end, and thine expectation shall not be cut off. Yesterday, we considered the three major steps taken by the woman with the issue of blood because of her expectation to receive healing.  Note that before this woman touched Jesus, she had an expectation. She had said to herself, "If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well." (Mark 5:28).  You must be very strong about your resolution this year. I don't just mean the normal yearly resolution we do during cross-over night. I am talking about your *_FAITH-FULL_* resolve in God. Just like William Carey the father of modern Missions said, *"Expect great things, attempt great things."*  The woman expected great healing and she did take great action. She stand the risk of being trampled upon in the midst of the crowd while bending down to touch Jesus' clothes; but the drive of her expectation is stronger than the drive of her fears and affliction

BE EXPECTANT

Image
Text : Proverbs  23:18.   For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off. The Father of modern Missions has this popular saying:  *"Expect great things; attempt great things"* - William Carey. For you to do great exploits this year, you must be eagerly expectant to see God move on your behalf in an unusual way. You must unwaveringly set your gaze on God as your hope and your stay this year. We shall be considering the story of the woman with the issue of blood in our Bible reading. We shall be reading from  the gospel according to Mark because of its detailed account of the scenario. The woman had not only suffered for twelve (12) years with constant bleeding, but she had also suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them. Despite all these, she did not get any better (Mark 5: 25-26). Though, this woman's situation appears to be hopeless, yet she never gave up.  She did a number

KNOWING GOD-2

Image
Text : Daniel 11:32  "...the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits" Having established that true knowledge of God is hidden in LOVE towards God and your neighbour, let us dig deeper into this reality. What most people posses about God is head knowledge and not true knowledge which proceeds from a heart that is established in Faith and Love. The truth is, *you cannot claim the knowledge of God until you start walking in love.*  _And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know._  1 Cor. 8:2. The person who truly has the knowledge of God is one who has learnt how to walk in love. Such person does not just know God, but he is most importantly known by God. 1Corinthian 8:3. Your love for God will always produce a deep and true knowledge of God in you. *The more you walk in love, the deeper you grow in God's knowledge, and vice versa.*  As you love that naughty brother in your church
