FRIDAY 25 SEPTEMBER, 2026.

TEXT: Mark 12:30.

“And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.”

Jesus is always raising the standard when it comes to obedience to God’s commandments. He said He did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfil it and reveal the heart and purpose behind it. (Matthew 5:17).

In Mark 12:30, Jesus made it clear that our love for God must involve every part of our being. We are to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. 

Like it was established yesterday, this means that God should not receive only a portion of your love, attention, devotion, or commitment. He desires your complete and total surrender.

It is natural to love those who love us, appreciate those who appreciate us, and respond kindly to those who treat us well. However, Jesus raised the standard even higher. He taught us not only to love our friends but also to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.

This is certainly a tall order. Human strength alone cannot accomplish it. Our natural tendency may be to retaliate, or hold grudges. But God calls us to demonstrate a love that goes beyond human feelings and tendencies.

Jesus Himself modelled this extraordinary love to us. Even while He was being crucified, He prayed for those who were responsible for His suffering. His life demonstrated that genuine love is not merely an emotion; it is a deliberate decision to obey God and seek the good of others.

When we truly love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, that love begins to influence how we relate with people. We become more willing to forgive, show kindness, extend mercy, and respond to hatred with love.

Loving our enemies does not mean approving of wrongdoing or refusing to establish healthy boundaries. Rather, it means refusing to allow hatred, bitterness, revenge, or unforgiveness to control our hearts.

The good news is that Jesus does not give us a command without making grace available to obey it. The Holy Spirit helps us to love beyond our natural ability. Romans 5:5 says, *Now this hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.* 

As we draw closer to God, His love is increasingly reflected in our words, attitudes, and actions.

The commandment of love begins with loving God completely and it  extends to loving people sacrificially. Let us ask God for grace to love Him wholeheartedly and to demonstrate His love even towards those who are quite difficult to love and those who may not love us in return.

1. Father, give me grace to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength in Jesus name.

2. Lord, remove every form of hatred, bitterness, resentment, and unforgiveness from my heart in Jesus name.

WHEN GOD IS SILENT(2)

Text: Matthew 4:1  *Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.*  We saw yesterday that God was not pleased with many israelites that left Egypt for the promised land  (Corinthians 10:5).  A good percentage of the Israelites were overthrown in the wilderness.   Wilderness experience is not what any child of God desires, but it is an experience God sends or allows his children go through. In Deuteronomy 8:2, God says that He *LED* the Isrealites through the wilderness for forty years to humble them, to prove them, and to know what was in their heart whether they would keep his commandments or not.  Our Lord Jesus Christ was also *LED* into the wilderness by the Spirit of the Lord to be tempted by the devil. Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness.
