Text: Matthew 4:6.
He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written, ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and, ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’
Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.
Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says, "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.
The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse.
See to it that you do not twist the word of God for your carnal gain. At times, you only see and hear what you want to see and hear in the word of God and not what God is actually saying.
If Jesus had obeyed what Satan said because he quoted from the word, He would not have obeyed God's word but Satan's word. Instead of obeying Satan, _Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God._
Whose voice are you obeying? That they are speaking the scriptures doesn't necessarily mean they are speaking by the Spirit of God. This is why 1 John 4:1 says, *Dear friends, stop believing every spirit. Instead, test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.*
Don't be carried away by "thus says the Lord" or by anyone using the word of God for their personal gains. Always know what is written concerning every situation and apply the word of God accordingly.
It is written again, you must not tempt the Lord your God. Don't be blown away by every wind of doctrine, instead, search the scriptures and be well grounded in it.
