His Voice Devotional
Text: Luke 11:8
I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needs.*
The Greek word from which importunity is coined is pronounced "anaideia". This Greek word means shamelessness, boldness
audacity, lack of embarrassment,
persistence that refuses to be put off.
To vividly explain how to be persistent in prayers, Jesus Christ gave an analogy of a man who went to his friend at midnight wanting to borrow three loaves of bread in order to entertain his own friend.
Jesus said that suppose the man's friend calls out from his bedroom saying, 'Don't bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can't help you. But I tell you this—though he won't do it for friendship's sake, *if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence. (Luke 11:7-8- NLT).*
Jesus made it clear that though the man could not get the help from his friend for friendship sake, but he will get it because of his shameless persistence.
This shameless persistence is the importunity the Lord is trying to communicate to His followers even as they pray to God. You must be very persistent in your asking, seeking and knocking. Once you know that you are engaging heaven on the platform of God's will, you must never throw in the towel.
It does not matter how long you've been praying and asking God for a partner or a child in marriage, salvation for a family member, God's anointing upon your life, healing from chronic disease or financial breakthrough. You need to understand that *persistence in prayer is the key to your breakthrough.*
As long as you have breath in your nostril, you must never give up. You must continue in shameless, bold, audacious and persistent prayer, and the LORD will show up in your situation.
*Don't give up! Keep asking! Keep seeking! keep knocking! The LORD will certainly come through for you if you do not faint in the place of prayer.*
