WAR AGAINST THE SOUL-2

Text :  1 Peter 2:11

Beloved, I beg [you] as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,

As children of God, we are sojourners and pilgrims in this world. Hence, the scripture strongly admonishes us to abstain from fleshly lusts.

Today, we shall be looking at the fleshly lusts that are waging war against our souls.

Galatians 5:19 says that "...the works of the flesh are evident..." 
This means that the presence of fleshly lusts are revealed through certain manifestations  in our lives. These are adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,
idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like..." (Galatians   5: 19-21).

The presence or manifestation of any of the above is a full proof that fleshly lusts are waging war against your soul already. And that's the reason the concluding part of verse 21 says, *"... those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.(Galatians 5:21)"*.

It is obvious from the concluding part of this verse 21 that the resultant effect of fleshly lusts is the loss of inheritance- that is, the loss of God's kingdom.

As a child of God, you must constantly engage in continuous abstinence from fleshly lusts. Since the scripture says that you are a pilgrim and a stranger, it therefore means that all these works of the flesh are the common practices of the people of this world.

The only way to experience deliverance from these works of the flesh is not by tackling them through self- determination or self-discipline. You gain victory by accepting and believing in what Jesus Christ has done on the cross.(Galatians 5:24). Secondly, you gain deliverance from fleshly lusts by total surrender to the leading of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:18).

These two postures highlighted above must be the continuous practise of every believer. That's the way to constantly experience victory in our journey of faith as pilgrims and strangers on earth.

May the Lord deliver you from every fleshly lust in Jesus name.

WHEN GOD IS SILENT(2)

Text: Matthew 4:1  *Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.*  We saw yesterday that God was not pleased with many israelites that left Egypt for the promised land  (Corinthians 10:5).  A good percentage of the Israelites were overthrown in the wilderness.   Wilderness experience is not what any child of God desires, but it is an experience God sends or allows his children go through. In Deuteronomy 8:2, God says that He *LED* the Isrealites through the wilderness for forty years to humble them, to prove them, and to know what was in their heart whether they would keep his commandments or not.  Our Lord Jesus Christ was also *LED* into the wilderness by the Spirit of the Lord to be tempted by the devil. GULLIBLE BUT INTELLIGENT
