REST

Text : Matthew 11:28.

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and loaded down with burdens, and I will give you rest"

The invitation to rest that Jesus Christ gave in Matthew 11:28 was in two folds.

First He said,  “Come to me, all of you who are weary and loaded down with burdens, and I will give you rest.  This call is to everybody. Whoever goes to Him, will be given rest.

This is the kind of rest that will flood your heart and life the moment you accept Christ into your life as your personal Lord and  Saviour.

If you have never experienced this kind of rest which is expressed in inexplicable joy and peace, then you sincerely need to come to Jesus now for the cleansing flood. And He will give you a new life.

There's a kind of peace and joy that only comes with a new birth in Christ Jesus. Have you experienced this Joy?

Just like in natural birth, when a new baby is born, everyone is happy. People Rejoice with the mother and father. Even the baby is treated with love and tenderness. But as the baby grows, demands and expectations are laid on the child, (howbeit impliedly) failure to meet up these expectations may attracts some disciplinary actions.

In the same vein,  there's joy in heaven over a sinner that repents, Luke 15:7. However,  this new babe in Christ is not expected to remain a baby forever. He is expected to grow. 1 Peter 2:2. Growth comes with responsibilities. Many are aging, only few are growing.

You may wonder why some believers are no longer experiencing the peace and joy they once had at new birth.
Well, the answer is in the second invitation Jesus gave in Matthew 11:29.

He said,  Place my yoke on you and learn of me, because I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest for your souls. Mathew. 11:29.
If you looked closely,  you will see that in the first invitation Jesus said, He will give you rest, but in the second,  He said you will find rest.

Obviously,  it's easier to receive a gift than to find a treasure. To find rest for your soul, you need to learn of Christ.

It's this kind of rest that grows with you until you grow into maturity. Note that this kind of rest is not for everyone,  it's only for those who have honoured His invitation for the first rest. If you have experienced the first rest, it's time to move up the ladder in your growth and receive the second invitation to rest.

By His Grace, tomorrow,  we shall be focusing on how to learn of Christ in order to find rest for your soul.

Bible Reading: Mathew 11:25-30.

Prayer Points

1.  Father, I receive the grace to learn of Christ that I may find rest for my soul.

2. I receive a teachable heart to be able to grasp all that you have for me.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

WAY MAKER-2

Text: Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing: now it shall spring forth: shall ye not know it?  I will even make a way in the wilderness,  and rivers in the desert. God promised that He will do a new thing for you, and that He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. He has done this before, and He will do it again even in your own life.  When the children of Israel left Egypt, the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them, encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.(Exodus 14:9). Just like anyone would react, the Isrealites became so fearful because there is neither way forward nor back for them to escape. Before them was the red sea, behind them were the Egyptian armies. They became perplexed and began to murmur against Moses. It is possible you are also in a situation like the Israelites- No way forward, and no way behind. Things may appear like you are ...

BEWARE OF DOGS

Text :  Philippians 3:2. Beware of the dogs! Beware of the evil workers! Beware of the mutilators! Usually, when you see the inscription "BEWARE OF DOGS", you instantly know there's a wild or trained dog around the corner, hence, the need to beware.  However, when God says 'Beware of dogs,' He wasn't actually referring to dogs as in 'animals' but to animals in human skin. Note that this caution was given to believers against other so-called  believers.  That is, some people within the church that we refer to as brothers and sisters are actually operating in the capacity of dogs.Though fellow worshippers in the church are called brothers and sisters, but if they behave like wild animals, know that they are dogs in humans skin- BEWARE. Matthew  7:6 says *Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.*  Essentially, dogs don't have capacity to r...
