CHARACTERISTICS OF LOVE

Text : 1Corinthians 13:4.

Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited.

*Love is not just a feeling or emotions, it is a being. Love is not so much about what we do, but who we are.* I John 4:8 says God is love, so anyone who doesn't have God cannot truly love.

In reality, no natural man can satisfy all the characteristics of love as enumerated in 1 Cor. 13:4-13.

It's only a man who has surrendered his life to God through Christ that can truly fulfill the demands of love.

*Love is patient :* One proof of patience in your life is how slow you are to getting angry. King James version of 1Cor.13:4 says love suffers long. That is, patience in this regard is your ability to suffer long (especially the inadequacies of men). *Patience talks about your ability to endure without losing your cool and calmness.*

*Love is kind :* The International standard Version of 1 Cor. 13:4 says love is ALWAYS KIND. *if it is love, your kindness will always be constant.* It wouldn't be a seasonal kindness. *If God is the source of your love, He will ALWAYS produce the fruit of kindness in you.*

*Love is never jealous or envious :* By nature, man is always envious, even when what you have is better than your neighbor's you'll still envy his. But when love takes control, he will deal with all the root of envy and jealousy in you.

*Love is never boastful or proud :* To be boastful is to loudly brag and give exaggerated appraisal of oneself. While pride is a silent, unspoken exaggerated high opinion of oneself. Now, can you sincerely say you are free of either or both of these two vices? The only antidote to these is the God kind of love.

Time will not allow us to talk of rudeness, anger, keeping records of wrongs and every other vices inherent in human nature that can only be uprooted by Love. 1 Corinthian 13:4-13.

It is crystal clear now that love is not a feeling, it is a being. A supreme being. GOD IS LOVE. 1 John 4:8.

Anyone who is not a child of God does not have the capacity to love. And being a child of God only comes through Jesus. And having confessed Jesus as your Saviour and Lord, you must allow the Holy Spirit do His work of fruit bearing (Love) in you. Holy Spirit is the one to bear and bring forth LOVE in you.

However, to all who received him(Jesus), those believing in his name, he gave authority to become God’s children. John 1:12.

All of God's children has the Spirit of God in them.

It is this Spirit who produces the fruit of love in us. Rom. 5:5.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians. 5:22-23.

Basically, the fruit that the Holy Spirit produces in us is love, which in turn produces the rest.

Bible Reading: 1John 4:7-12, 1 Cor. 13:1-13.

 *PRAYER FOCUS*

1.) Father, I receive the grace to yield to the leadings of your Holy Spirit in me, so my life can bear the fruit of love.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

WHEN GOD IS SILENT(2)

Text: Matthew 4:1  *Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.*  We saw yesterday that God was not pleased with many israelites that left Egypt for the promised land  (Corinthians 10:5).  A good percentage of the Israelites were overthrown in the wilderness.   Wilderness experience is not what any child of God desires, but it is an experience God sends or allows his children go through. In Deuteronomy 8:2, God says that He *LED* the Isrealites through the wilderness for forty years to humble them, to prove them, and to know what was in their heart whether they would keep his commandments or not.  Our Lord Jesus Christ was also *LED* into the wilderness by the Spirit of the Lord to be tempted by the devil. You will  notice there is a similar feature of the number *40(forty)* between these two wilderness experiences. That is, that of the Israelites and our Lord Jesus Christ. The Israelites spent 40years, Jesu...
