His Voice Devotional
Text : Luke 10:39.
"She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what He said."*
Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus, stands in Scripture as a beautiful picture of a true worshipper. While Martha was busy serving and attending to many responsibilities, Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus, listening attentively to His words.
Jesus Himself described her choice as "that good part" which would not be taken away from her (Luke 10:42).
A worshipper is not merely one who sings songs or plays musical instruments in church meetings. A worshipper is one who values the presence of God above every other pursuit. Worship begins when the heart is captivated by God and desires to be in fellowship with Him more than anything else.
Interestingly, whenever Mary appears in the Scripture, she is found at the feet of Jesus. In Luke 10:39, she sat at His feet to learn. In John 11:32, she fell at His feet in sorrow and surrendered after the death of Lazarus. In John 12:3, she worshipped at His feet with costly perfume, pouring out her love and devotion. Mary's life teaches us that worshippers are learners, surrenderers, and lovers of Christ.
The secret of Mary's devotion was not that she had fewer responsibilities than Martha; rather, she understood priorities. She recognized that service without fellowship can become burdensome, but fellowship with Christ gives meaning and strength to service.
Many believers today are busy working for God, yet spend little time with God. The result is spiritual dryness, frustration, and burnout.
David understood this truth when he declared, *One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.* (Psalm 27:4).
The greatest need of every believer is not merely to do more for God, but to know Him more deeply.
Wonderful as worship is, worship is not the final destination. Worship is designed to draw us into deeper intimacy and complete dependence on God. The more we sit at His feet, the more we hunger for Him. The more we know Him, the more we want to know Him more.
*Genuine worship produces surrender, obedience, and a life fully yielded to God's will.*
Mary teaches us the beauty of worship, but her brother Lazarus teaches us the beauty of waiting upon God. A worker serves, a worshipper adores, but a waiter learns to trust God completely, even when He seems silent. Therefore, let your worship lead you beyond moments of devotion into a lifestyle of total surrender and dependence upon Christ.
Today, examine your heart. Are you so busy serving that you have neglected sitting at His feet? Do you spend time daily listening to His voice through His Word and do you wait long enough to hear Him speak to you? Do you truly desire more of Him?
May we become believers who not only work for God but also worship Him with our lives.
*Bible Reading:*
Luke 10:38-42.
**PRAYER FOCUS**
Father Lord, create in me a heart that longs for Your presence above all else. Teach me to sit at your feet, listen to your voice, and delight in your fellowship daily. Let my worship produce deeper surrender, greater obedience, and a stronger desire to know You more in Jesus name.
