Text : 1 Corinthians 1:27
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
We have seen how God fed over five thousands men from the "insignificant" lunch pack of a young boy. John 6:9.
Also, we have seen the wonder that came out from the insignificant bottle of oil in 2 kings 4:1-7.
Today, we'll glean some lessons from story of another widow with some insignificant portion of meal.
God told Prophet Elijah that He had commanded a widow to feed him during a time of famine. “Get up, move to Zarephath in Sidon, and stay there. Look! I’ve commanded a widow to sustain you there.”1 kings 17:9.
It is convenient to assume that God had spoken to this woman about Elijah before now, but No. This woman had no premonition at all that she had been singled out by God to be a channel of blessing to God's servant during such difficult times.
*God is never handicapped by any situation. He's a God of all circumstances, so you must learn to trust Him.*
When Elijah appeared at this widow's doorstep, little did she know that God was setting her up in order to bless her. Now, let's glean some lessons from this story :
1. She was a widow living in a difficult time. What is your situation right now? Are you also living in a difficult time? Well, God already knows about it.
2. God said He had commanded her to feed His servant, yet all she saw was the servant without any direct word from God. If she refused the man, she would have been disobedient to the commands of God. This is very instructional for you. *GOD USES YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE TO TEST YOU IN ORDER TO PROMOTE YOU. DON'T FAIL YOUR TEST.*
3. She gave from her little. A number of times people want to give from abundance. But if you can't part from the little you have, you would have failed the opportunity to make it big, and chances are that even if you do have plenty, you might still not be able to give.
*You don't obey because it is convenient, you obey because you are obedient.*
This widow agreed to feed the man of God not after she had seen the miracle of multiplication, but before it. Stop giving God conditions before you can obey. Don't say if you do this or that for me, then, I will obey your command. You are only delaying your breakthrough that way.
The truth is, the only one who profits from your obedience is you. With or without you, God's will will be done. It's a privilege to partner with God.
God turned the insignificant portion of meal that this widow intended to have with a son before their death, to an unending store house that didn't just cater for the woman and her son, but for the man of God too, all through the drought.
What is God commanding you to do right now? Don't wait for an audible, dramatic voice from God, just obey His Voice through His servant (in consonance with His words) and you would have passed the test that will usher you into greatness.
Bible Reading : 1 kings 17:8-16.
*PRAYER FOCUS*
1. Lord, give me the grace to obey your commands in my everyday life.
