Text: Luke 15:7
I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
There is a special kind of joy in heaven that is triggered when a soul returns to God. Heaven celebrates repentance. This tells us how valuable every single soul is to God, and how intentional we must be about helping others find their way back to Him.
Many times, we think sharing the gospel requires traveling to distant lands or waiting for a “perfect moment.” But *the truth is, your mission field often begins right where you are. The people closest to you, your family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues, are the first assignment God has given you.*
When Jesus gave the great commission in Acts 1:8, He made it clear that witnessing should start from “Jerusalem”, their immediate environment, before extending to the uttermost.
This means your home, your street, your workplace, and your circle of influence are your Jerusalem.
A powerful example of this is seen in John 1:41. After encountering Jesus, Andrew did not keep the good news to himself. The very first thing he did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah!” He understood that love compels action.
If you truly care about someone, you won’t keep silent about the salvation that can transform their lives.
Helping your brother is not limited to introducing him to Christ; it also includes restoring him when he falls. Believers are not immune to mistakes, struggles, or seasons of wandering.
This is why James 5:19-20 encourages us to bring back anyone who strays from the truth. This is compassion. It is participating in God’s rescue mission.
Sadly, it is easy to criticize, judge, or even distance ourselves from a fallen brother. Sometimes, people go as far as exposing or condemning others, forgetting that they too are recipients of grace.
But God calls us to a higher standard, to be agents of reconciliation, not instruments of destruction.
To help your brother means to pray for him, reach out in love, speak truth with gentleness, and guide him back to the right path. It means choosing restoration over rejection.
Remember, every soul restored brings joy to heaven. You could be the reason for that celebration.
