TEXT: Proverbs 23:2

“Put a knife to your throat if you are given to a large appetite.”

One area many people overlook in their walk with God is the discipline of their  appetite, especially what we consume.

While the Scripture teaches that it is not what goes into a man that defiles him, but what comes out of him (Matthew 15:11), we must not ignore the subtle influence of what we allow into our bodies and lives.

*What you consume can shape your thinking, weaken your discernment, and affect your spiritual alertness, so watch out!*

Proverbs 23:2 gives a strong warning, it says, “put a knife to your throat...” This is not literal, but a call to extreme self-control. It emphasizes the danger of being ruled by appetite.

Please note that this appetite is not limited to food alone, but also to any consumables like clothes, bags, shoes etc. You must exercise control in receiving freebies from people.

A lack of discipline in this area can make a person vulnerable, easily influenced, and even manipulated.
In verse 1-3 of Proverbs 23,  there is a caution about dining with rulers. Why? Because sometimes what appears as generosity can be a trap. If you are driven by “ awoof ” (free things that always come with hidden consequences or conditions).
You may lose your guard and fall into compromise.

Many destinies have been diverted not by force, but by unchecked appetite, whether for food, gifts, pleasure, or free benefits. Many have married wrongly because of uncontrolled appetite.

Appetite goes beyond food. It includes cravings for comfort, recognition, material things, and even unhealthy relationships.

When these desires are not brought under control, they can distort judgment and dull spiritual sensitivity. You may begin to justify wrong decisions simply because something is appealing or convenient.

As believers, we are called to live by the Spirit, not by the flesh. Discipline is not punishment, it is protection against destruction. *When you learn to say “NO” to freebies, you preserve your clarity, dignity, and purpose.*

Are there areas where your appetite is controlling you?
Have you ever made a poor decision because something was “free” or attractive? Well, you can still retrace your steps. Ask God to help you.

 *BIBLE READING:*

Proverbs 23:6-8.

 *PRAYER FOCUS:*

Father, please, help me to exercise discipline in every area of my life. Give me the wisdom to discern what is beneficial and  strengthen me to say no to anything that can compromise my judgment or walk with you in Jesus name.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

WAY MAKER-2

Text: Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing: now it shall spring forth: shall ye not know it?  I will even make a way in the wilderness,  and rivers in the desert. God promised that He will do a new thing for you, and that He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. He has done this before, and He will do it again even in your own life.  When the children of Israel left Egypt, the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them, encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.(Exodus 14:9). Just like anyone would react, the Isrealites became so fearful because there is neither way forward nor back for them to escape. Before them was the red sea, behind them were the Egyptian armies. They became perplexed and began to murmur against Moses. It is possible you are also in a situation like the Israelites- No way forward, and no way behind. Things may appear like you are ...

TIME IN ETERNITY

Text : Psalms 90:12  So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom._  Our God dwells in eternity past, present and future. In between these phases of eternity, He created man to dwell in Time. When man sinned, he fell short of God's plan, and death came in.(Rom 3:23). Death therefore short circuit man's life in eternity. This is the reason Jesus.came.  He had to come into TIME in order to remove the PAUSE  death HAD on man.  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16.  Every man born into this world automatically becomes an eternal being. The question therefore is, which side of eternity would such a man dwell? Everlasting life or Everlasting condemnation? Time is an opportunity given to man to trade for eternal life. You have limited time to exchange for eternal life in eternity.  Time offers you the opportunity to ga...
