COSTLY ASSUMPTION 2

TEXT: Joshua 9:14-15.

So the leaders of Israel sampled their provisions, but did not ask the LORD about it.bThey made a treaty with them, guaranteeing their lives with a covenant, and the leaders of the congregation confirmed it with an oath to them.*

Joshua and the leaders of Israel made a costly assumption that costs Isreal a great deal.

When the Gibeonites heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,
they took the initiative by preparing their provisions shrewdly: they took tattered sacks for their donkeys, worn-out, torn, and mended wineskins,
worn-out, patched sandals for their feet, and worn-out clothes. All of their food was dried out and covered in mold.

Then they approached Joshua in the camp at Gilgal and addressed him and the Israelis, “We’ve arrived from a distant country, so please make a treaty with us right now.” Joshua 9:3-6.

This was the emotional speech the Gibeonites gave to the Israelis' leaders and they assumed they were saying the truth without hearing from the Lord.

Man can be highly deceitful. Jeremiah 17:9 (ISV) says, “The heart is more deceitful than anything.   It is incurable—   who can know it? No one can actually know the intent of another's heart except it be revealed by God.

The Israelis' leaders acted based on what they heard from the Gibeonites without inquiring from God. *God expects you to inquire from Him even on matters that seem glaringly straightforward.*

Many believers still fall into the same trap today. We judge situations by appearance, by human logic, or by emotional appeal, and we move ahead without asking God.

What looks harmless can later become a heavy burden. The Gibeonites appeared humble and harmless, yet their deception placed Israel under an obligation that lasted for generations.

Assumption is dangerous because it shuts the door to divine direction. *Prayerlessness often gives birth to costly decisions.* No matter how experienced or spiritual we are, we must never outgrow the habit of asking God. Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding.

Beloved, before you sign that contract, accept that proposal, start that business, or make that journey, ask the Lord. Inquire from the Lord first.

God delights in guiding His children, but He will not force His counsel on those who refuse to seek it.
Let this be your resolve this year: no inquiry, no action.

 *BIBLE READING:*

Joshua 9:1–16; Proverbs 3:5–7.

 *PRAYER FOCUS*

Father, deliver me from the spirit of assumption. Teach me to depend on You in every decision,  in Jesus name.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

WAY MAKER-2

Text: Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing: now it shall spring forth: shall ye not know it?  I will even make a way in the wilderness,  and rivers in the desert. God promised that He will do a new thing for you, and that He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. He has done this before, and He will do it again even in your own life.  When the children of Israel left Egypt, the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them, encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.(Exodus 14:9). Just like anyone would react, the Isrealites became so fearful because there is neither way forward nor back for them to escape. Before them was the red sea, behind them were the Egyptian armies. They became perplexed and began to murmur against Moses. It is possible you are also in a situation like the Israelites- No way forward, and no way behind. Things may appear like you are ...

TIME IN ETERNITY

Text : Psalms 90:12  So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom._  Our God dwells in eternity past, present and future. In between these phases of eternity, He created man to dwell in Time. When man sinned, he fell short of God's plan, and death came in.(Rom 3:23). Death therefore short circuit man's life in eternity. This is the reason Jesus.came.  He had to come into TIME in order to remove the PAUSE  death HAD on man.  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16.  Every man born into this world automatically becomes an eternal being. The question therefore is, which side of eternity would such a man dwell? Everlasting life or Everlasting condemnation? Time is an opportunity given to man to trade for eternal life. You have limited time to exchange for eternal life in eternity.  Time offers you the opportunity to ga...
