Text: Philippians 1:2
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Today, we shall begin to look at the various operations of God's Grace and Peace upon the lives of His people, with Joseph as our first case study.
Joseph was sold by his brothers to the Ishmaelites, and he found himself in the house of Potiphar as a slave boy.
The scripture says, ".... Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there. The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.(Genesis 39:1-2).
Joseph had just witnessed an experience that should have turned his whole life upside down, rather, the Lord prosperd him.
The Lord was with him and he was successful... his master saw that the Lord was with him. (Genesis 39:2 & 3). This is Grace at work!
The presence of God in a man's life is simply Grace at work. God's presence with Joseph gave him Favour before his master and every other persons that come across his way. That's the reason the scripture says, *"if God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31).*
Joseph was at peace all through his trying time. God's shallom was upon him. You will see this in all his dealings even with people that has offended him.
Joseph was at peace with God, with himself, with his enemies and with everyone around him.
If God's peace was not upon Joseph, he would have been very angry with God for allowing his brothers to sell him into slavery. This anger and bitterness could have made him to commit fornication with Potiphar's wife, and this singular act would have ruined his destiny and God's purpose for his life. You know, if Joseph had not been conscious of God's peace in his life, he would have thought that the situation he found himself (as a slave in Potiphar's house) is a very bad one. And his reactions and attitude to everything would have been different.
*When God's peace is with you, your attitude in the face of difficulty will be a calm and relaxed one.* Just like Jesus and his disciples while on the raging sea. In the midst of turmoil, Jesus simply said, *"Peace be still" (Mark 4:39).*
May His Grace and Peace continually rest on you in this pilgrimage.
