Text : 2 Timothy 2:19.
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
*“Be holy, for I am holy.”* 1 Peter 1:16.
In a world where standards shift daily, where right and wrong often depend on culture, feelings, or trends, *God's standard remains unchanging. His standard is not adjustable, negotiable, or dependent on trends.* God’s standard flows from His nature, and because He is holy, His standard is holiness.
God does not call us to measure ourselves by human standards. He says in 2 Corinthians 10:12 that, *We would not dare put ourselves in the same class with, or compare ourselves to, those who recommend themselves. Whenever they measure themselves by their own standards or compare themselves among themselves, they show how foolish they are.*
Many people comfort themselves with statements like:
“I’m not as bad as others.”
“I tried my best.”
“At least, I'm a committed worker in the church.”
But God never asked us to compare ourselves with others or the world;
He calls us to conform to Christ.
Now, the question is, What Is God’s Standard?
First and foremost, God's standard is Holiness. Holiness is not perfectionism, it is separation.Separation from the world. Holiness means letting God set the boundaries of your thoughts, desires, and actions.
Secondly, God's standard is Obedience.
This is not selective obedience, but prompt and total obedience to God. Complete surrender to God.
God’s standard is, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
God's standard is Truth.
Not half-truths, not convenient truths.
God’s Word is the measure of this truth, even when it is uncomfortable.
God's standard is Love.
A love that forgives, sacrifices, and behaves graciously, even toward the undeserving.
God’s Standard matters because we become what we follow.
A low standard produces a weak life.
A worldly standard produces a worldly heart.
But God’s standard which is unchanging and pure, produces a life that looks like Christ.
God’s standard also protects us. When He calls us higher, it is not to burden us but to build us. He knows what destroys a soul and what strengthens it.
Don’t lower God’s standard to match your struggles.
Lift your life to match His Grace.
He gives the strength to live what He commands.
