Text : Luke 9:54&55
When his disciples James and John observed this rejection, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?”* *But he turned and rebuked them,
In the book of second kings, Prophet Elijah killed 102 soldiers whom the king of Samaria sent to fetch him. He did this because he knew he had the power to do so. He commanded fire from heaven and consumed two sets of soldiers (2 king 1:1-12).
In chapter two of the same second kings, prophet Elisha killed 42 young men who mocked him. He cursed them in the name of the LORD, Suddenly two female bears emerged from the woods and mauled them. (2 Kings 2:23-24).
In the new testament, when the days grew closer for Jesus to be taken up to heaven, he was determined to continue his journey to Jerusalem.
So he sent messengers ahead of him. On their way, they went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him.
But the people would not welcome him, because he was determined to go to Jerusalem. When his disciples, James and John observed this rejection, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?”
The disciples wanted to do what the early prophets did, but Jesus Christ changed the narrative. He turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. *For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them.* Luke 9:55-56.
A number of God's children are still abusing the power of God in their lives, because they don't know the kind of Spirit they are made of.
A number of disciples are not yielding to the rebuke of our Lord. With the slightest provocation, they will stand on their "authority" and declare, 'if I be a man of God'. Others may not even use this cliche, but are in the habit of freely using their mouths in making negative utterances.
The power you carry is meant to save and not to destroy. It is meant to bless and never to curse.
There are height you may never attain to until you know the kind of spirit you are made of.
And the truth is, you will give account of how you use God's deposit in your life.
Romans 12:14 says, *Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.* You have no excuse whatsoever to abuse the power of God in your life, because those who persecute you who truly deserves to be cursed, you are instructed to bless them.
