IT IS COMMON TO MAN

TEXT: 1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Temptation as used in the context of first Corinthians chapter 10, refers to an enticement to sin; whether arising from preconceived desires or from the outward circumstances.

This temptation refers  to moral and spiritual temptation- that is, the pull towards sin or desire to sin.

The Lord, through Apostle Paul highlighted  diverse temptations that the Israelites fell into during their journey to the promised land  in  first Corinthians 10:1- 10. He is therefore using their examples to admonish us, so that we will not fall into the same temptations.

Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.(1 Corinthians 10:11).

God was not pleased with many of the Israelites because they lusted after evil things, they became idolaters, they committed fornication, they tempted Christ,  they murmured.

You must also take heed to yourself so that you will not fall into the same temptations they fell into.
*...let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.(1 Corinthians 10:12).*

You are herein reminded that the same temptations that overtook the Israelites can also overtake you. They are common to man.

They fell into the temptations because they yielded to their lusts. As a believer, you must be  watchful and prayerful so that you will not fall into temptation. Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation..." (Matthew 26:41).

You must always know that God is faithful, and He will not allow you to be tempted above what you can bear. Bearing this in mind, you will always be an overcomer.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

IN MY NAME.

Text : Mark 16:17-18  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Having believed in the gospel (Good news of the resurrection of Jesus and His victory over Sin, Satan and Death), you now need to start using the name of Jesus authoritatively. JESUS said that in His name you shall cast out devils; you shall speak with new tongues; you shall take up serpents; and if you drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt you; you shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. This means that you will undertake all these in the authority of Jesus' name. No matter how small or powerless you may think you are in your own eyes. Once you believe in His name, you shall do all that He promised.   Unbelief was the sin that Israelites committed that wasted a whol...
