IT IS COMMON TO MAN-2

TEXT: 1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Today, we shall be looking at one of the temptations that overtook the Israelites in the wilderness on their way to the promised land.

Amongst the temptations the Israelites fell into are *IDOLATRY* and  *FORNICATION* . The scripture recorded that 24,000 souls died in just one day because of these sins, (Numbers 25:9). 1 Corinthians 10: 8 recorded 23,000.

Let's quickly look at the first one which is  Idolatry. Idolatry is not just limited to worshipping or bowing down to idols, it also mean putting anyone or anything above God in devotion, trust or priority.

*To know if you are an idolater, you only need to ask yourself one simple question: What is that one thing that I trust in, devote myself to or prioritize above God?*

Whatever thing that takes your trust, devotion or priority above God is your idol. This could be money, properties, business, spouse, or children. The list is truly endless.

The first and second commandments spelt out clearly that you shall have no other gods before God, and you shall not make a carved image, _nor bow before one_ .This means that you should always put God first in everything, and worship Him only.

Do not forget that the ten commandments is summarised in one word- *LOVE* ! Love the Lord your God and your neighbour. (Matthew 22:38). So, loving other things or people above God can be regarded as idolatry.

The second commandment also talks about you not making for yourself a carved image or bow down to them. Today, there is a church that bows to carved image,  and worshippers go before that image to pray to it. This is nothing but idolatry.

We must see to it that we truly prioritize God above all else. He does not want to share you with anything or anyone else. He is a jealous God.

 *BIBLE READING* :

1 Corinthians 10:1-10.

 *PRAYER FOCUS*

Father Lord, help me to trust and  prioritize you above all else in Jesus name.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

IN MY NAME.

Text : Mark 16:17-18  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Having believed in the gospel (Good news of the resurrection of Jesus and His victory over Sin, Satan and Death), you now need to start using the name of Jesus authoritatively. JESUS said that in His name you shall cast out devils; you shall speak with new tongues; you shall take up serpents; and if you drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt you; you shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. This means that you will undertake all these in the authority of Jesus' name. No matter how small or powerless you may think you are in your own eyes. Once you believe in His name, you shall do all that He promised.   Unbelief was the sin that Israelites committed that wasted a whol...
