TEXT: 2 Kings 4:1.
“Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”
Life will always bring moments when we feel cornered. When options seem few and fear knocks loudly on our door. In 2 Kings 4, we meet a widow caught in one of such moments.
Her husband, a faithful servant of the Lord (who obviously didn't know his privileges in the Lord), had died. Debt had mounted, and now a creditor was coming to enslave her two sons as redemption of collateral.
She had every reason to be a worrier. Her husband was gone. Her finances were in ruins.
Her children were at risk.
And yet, instead of collapsing under fear, she rose as a warrior—not in her own strength, but by taking her burden directly to the man of God, Elisha, trusting in the God of her husband.
*It's either you are a Worrier or a Warrior? You can’t be both at the same time.*
This woman shows us a critical truth. She could have stayed home, pacing the floor, wringing her hands, and crying out, “Why me Lord?”
But she chose to act. She went to the prophet. She laid out her case with faith. She didn’t have much—but she gave what she had. And that’s exactly where God met her.
When she told Elisha her problem, he asked:
“What do you have in your house?"
She said, “Nothing… except a small jar of oil.”
That “insignificant small” jar of oil was enough in the hands of God.
Elisha instructed her to borrow empty jars from her neighbors—not a few—and to pour oil into them. As she poured, the oil didn’t run out until every jar was full. She then sold the oil, paid off her debts, and lived on the rest.
What are the takeaways from her story -
1.Worry focuses on the problem.
Faith focuses on the Provider.
2.God works with what you already have.
Don’t discount your “small jar of oil.” He multiplies what you surrender to Him. That 'your little' talent, giftings or skills can be multiplied by Him.
3.Obedience activates the miracle.
If she hadn’t gathered the jars or started pouring, she would’ve missed the provision.
4.God cares about every area of your life.
This wasn’t just about oil or money—it was about her sons, her future, her dignity.
Are you responding to pressure with panic or with prayer?
What “small jar” do you have that God might want to use?
Are you trusting God with your next step, even if the solution isn’t clear yet? BE A WARRIOR AND NEVER A WORRIER BECAUSE YOU ARE MORE THAN A CONQUEROR.
