Text :1 Peter 2:23
Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
Our Lord Jesus Christ was reviled on many occasions, but at no point did he revile back.
Jesus Christ suffered in the hands of His creatures but he threatened not. Though He had the power to have defended Himself against the assaults of man, but he simply chose to commit Himself into God's hands.
Just as Jesus did not receive offences from His persecutors, so also must you not.
To receive offence is to revile those who revile you, it is to curse those who curse you, it is to render evil for evil. When you pay back your offenders or persecutors in their own coin, you are actually throwing back the offence.
Imagine a scenario where you are in a car moving at a very high speed, and someone in the car suddenly throws a grenade (bomb) at you. What would you do? Would you throw it back at him in the car? Of course not, you'll quickly throw it out through the window.
Invariably, these are the three options you always have when someone throws offence (bomb) at you- you either throw it back at the person, throw it out through the window or jump out of the car.
You surely do know the consequences of any option you chose. The best option however is to throw the bomb out of the car. That way, you and the person who throws the offence will be safe.
This is why God's word is asking us not render evil for evil, because it's like throwing bomb at your offender who is in the same room with you, you will not only injure or kill your offender, you will do the same harm to yourself.
