Text: 2 Timothy 2:20
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
Prior to this study text, Apostle Paul mentioned two workers in God's vineyard who have erred concerning the faith. They were now preaching heresy that resurrection is past already. This simply means that our core belief in the Lord Jesus Christ is no longer valid. The scripture also states clearly in first Corinthians 15:16 that if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.
It is therefore obvious that these two persons (Hymenaeus and Philetus) are destroyers of faith. The scripture says that they have overthrown the faith of many. (2Timothy 2:18).
In spite of any heretical teaching or wrong belief systems one may be holding, God's foundation is both firm and sure. *Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity." (2 Timothy 2:19)*.
We must not take the mercy and grace of our gracious and merciful God for granted in any way. He lovingly demands everyone who names His name to depart from iniquity. We cannot remain and continue in sin and expect grace to abound. (Romans 6:1).
As a genuine child of God, He wants you to completely depart from iniquity. There are too many mix-up out there in the name of Christianity. You must stay clear from every character, and dispositions that do not correlate with the holiness of our God.
The scripture now compare all the worshippers in God's house to vessels. *But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. (2 Timothy 2:20).*
Although, there are many vessels in the great house, you must do all within God's grace that is bestowed upon you to stand out as God's precious and Honourable vessel. It's your choice not to be a vessel unto dishonour but unto honour.
That is the reason God's word beseech you by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.(Romans 12:1).
*It is God who sanctifies, but it's your responsibility to present yourself as a vessel that needed sanctification.*
*PRAYER FOCUS*
1. Father God, I receive the grace to continually present myself as a living sacrifice, Holy and acceptable unto you in Jesus name.
