Text: Proverbs 17:6.
Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
It takes more than just bringing a child to this world to be a Father. We have established that a father is one who is able to raise and nurture another person for God.
You can imagine God saying this to Abraham before he had Isaac- "For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him."
God labelled Abraham the Father of many Nations because He knew ahead of time that He is a Father not only in a biological sense but most importantly in a spiritual sense.
Let's quickly consider the implication of what the Lord said about Abraham.
Firstly, the Lord said, "For I have known him..."
To be God's ideal kind of Father, you must be a Father that is known by God. Are you known by God? You can only be known by the God if you have submitted yourself to Him.
Secondly, the Lord knows that Abraham will command his children and household after him to keep the ways of the Lord.
Are you a father that God can count on to command your children and household to keep his ways?
Becoming a father is a task that demands responsibility and accountability unto God. As a father, you will give account over your wife, children and household unto the Lord.
As we celebrate Fathers' day today, may the Lord count you worthy as a father who is able to keep His ways in Jesus name.
