NOMINAL CHRISTIAN 2

TEXT :  Revelation 3:16. 

Since you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I am going to spit you out of my mouth.

The people Jesus was addressing in the book of revelation chapter three are best described as nominal Christians. They are lukewarm Christians. Note that only a nominal Christian can be referred to as lukewarm. You can't call a non- Christian lukewarm. 

Now, it is important to note that it's very dangerous to be lukewarm. Jesus said, He will spit such people out of His mouth. Let me break this down more. A Lukewarm Christian considers himself as a child of God. He goes to church and a number of times, such may even be a worker in the church. 

Because of his understanding about the things of God, he deprives himself of some 'worldly enjoyment'. However, because he is neither hot nor cold, he lowers God's standards in some ways. The result is; he can't enjoy the worldly pleasures as a real child of the devil and at the same time, he is not recognized by God as a member of God's family.

So, if Jesus says He will spit the fellow out, it means the person will be denied access into the kingdom of God. So, he is irrelevant on earth and unprofitable to heaven.

Jesus Christ says in Matthew 5:13 that,  “ *You are the salt of the world. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty again? It’s good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled on by people.* A nominal Christian is like a salt that has lost its taste. Such individual is considered to be good for nothing, Hence, he will be thrown out and trampled on by people.

Any nominal Christian will be used and dumped by men and yet he has no resting place in heaven. This is why Jesus Christ strongly advised in Revelation 3:18, He says , _Therefore, I advise you to buy from me gold purified in fire so you may be rich, white clothes to wear so your shameful nakedness won’t show, and ointment to put on your eyes so you may see._ 

He goes further to say, "I correct and discipline those whom I love, so be serious and repent!" Revelation 3:19.

Beloved, This is not the time to play smart games with your life. This is the time to get serious with God. God is real, heaven is real and hell is real too. There's nothing in this world that worths trading God and your eternity for. 

This is the time to be on fire for God, for the time truly is short.

1.) Father God, I don't want to be a nominal Christian anymore, help me to be on fire for you always in Jesus name.

We established yesterday that one thing you can't joke with as a true follower of Christ is *His Voice.* You must recognise and hearken to (obey) His voice.
