Text: Acts 3:6.
However, Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold, but I’ll give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus the Messiah from Nazareth, walk!”
'You can't give what you don't have', goes the popular saying.
One afternoon, Peter and John were on their way to the Temple for the three o’clock prayer time.
A man who had been crippled from birth was being carried in. Every day people would lay him at what was called the Beautiful Gate so that he could beg from those who were going into the Temple.
When he saw that Peter and John were about to go into the Temple, he asked them to give him something.
Peter, along with John, looked him straight in the eye and said, “Look at us!”
So the man watched them closely, expecting to get something from them. However, Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold, but I’ll give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, walk!” Acts 3:1-6.
I'm sure you are familiar with the story above. The emphasis today however, is not just the miracle that the crippled man received, but the understanding that Peter and John had about what they have. Peter boldly said, "I'll give you what I do have." That is, he knew he had the power to heal the the sick and to perform wonders.
Do you think this kind of power is peculiar only to Peter and the early Apostles? Obviously not. Every child of God is open to same power. The difference is, while Peter knew what he has, some don't.
Peter, before he encountered Jesus was just a man like you before you encountered Jesus. After he encountered Jesus, he was just a man like you after you encountered Jesus too. He was a man with many imperfections.
He misjudged situation when he plainly told Jesus He will not die.(Matthew 16:22). He denied Jesus thrice. He left his duty post in pursuit of survival and many other flaws. However, the narratives changed when the Holy Ghost came upon him.
This explains why Jesus said in Luke 24:49 that, "I am sending to you what my Father promised, so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” Jesus instructed His disciples not to do anything until they have been endued with the power of the Holy Spirit.
God has fulfilled His promise by sending the Holy Spirit since the Pentecost, but you must daily ask Him for the infilling of the Spirit so you can be daily equiped not just to work for Him but also to walk with Him.
