Text: John 21:22
Jesus replied, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me."
*"The best way to mind your own business is to keep your nose out of someone else's." - Unknown.*
One major lesson the Lord would have us learn and adapt to as the year begins, is to mind our own business. To stay out of gossip and backbitting, you may need to pass every information through the litmus test of- "What is that to me?"
By simply asking your self this simple question (what is that to me?) everytime you are listening to someone or about to pass an information, you will soon find out how to focus more on your purpose here than meddling in other people's affairs.
When Jesus appeared to the disciples in John chapter 21, He focussed His attention on Peter, asking him to follow Him. Turning around, Peter saw the disciple (John) whom the Lord loved, and he asked the Lord- "What about him?". Jesus simply replied Peter: What's that to you? In other words, Jesus had simply told Peter to mind his own business.
Paying attention to other people's business would simply indicate two things:
*1.You are less busy:* Busy people are always preoccupied with their own lives and business. Pay attention to what is important to you and leave other people's matter. Stop poking your nose into matters that you are not invited into.
The scriptures instructed us to make it our goal to live a quiet life, minding our own business and working with our hands....(1Thessalonians 4:11). *Only people at the back gossip those in front- change your position, and you will stop gossipping.*
*2. You are not Focusing on your own life:* The Lord wanted Peter to pay full attention to the instructions He gave to him, and never to get himself concerned about John. This was to make Peter know that what the Lord was telling him was the only thing he needed to focus on. While poking your nose into other people's matter, you may be surprised to find out that you've forgotten about yours.
Please pay attention to yourself, stop wasting your time and life on that which does not concern you or what you cannot change.
Simply hear the Lord's instructions and follow it. The instruction you've received is for you to obey. Stop worrying yourself about what the Lord is saying or not saying to others.

*PRAYER FOCUS*
Father Lord, help me to pay attention to the instruction you've given me and to run with it without getting distracted.
