Text : Matthew 4:4.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
I know you are familiar with Jesus' temptations in the wilderness, but let's look into these three temptations one after the other.
The first temptation- _And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread._ Matthew 4:3.
After fasting for 40 days and 40 nights, Jesus finally became hungry, then, the tempter came. A number of times, the devil always tempt us using what we desire.James 1:14 says, *But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.* So, watch your desires.
Another thing the tempter always do is to question your identity in God.
When he went to our first parents - Adam and Eve, he told them they will be like gods if they should eat of the tree God told them not to. Genesis 3:5. You'll recall that they were God's already, because they were created in God's image and likeness. Genesis 1:27.
The moment they agreed to devil's idea, they lost their true identity and heritage. *If you don't know who you are in Christ Jesus, the devil will trick you into believing you are lesser than you truly are.*
Just like he tempted our first parents, the devil went to our Master, Jesus Christ and told him, if you are the son of God... Imagine telling Jesus to prove His sonship after God Himself had just declared Him as His beloved son in whom He is well pleased.
Notice that Jesus didn't try to prove anything to Satan. Rather, He simply told him what was already written. You are not to prove any point to Satan, simply shove him off with "it is written".
Now, the question is, how many of what is written do you carry in your consciousness? How many of what is written do you know?
It is written that you cannot live by bread alone. *True living is not gotten from physical things. a person’s life doesn’t consist of the amount of possessions he has.* (Luke 12:15).
True living comes from God's words to you.
This year, purpose in your heart to live by what is written.
