GOOD WORKS-2

Text :  Act 9:36.

Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

It is important to know that *believers are not saved by good works but unto good works.* The scriptures made it clear in Ephesians chapter 2 verses 8 & 9 that we are saved by grace through faith and not by works.

Humanity generally believes that good works bring salvation and God's favour,  but that's not God's standard. All your good works cannot save you in the end if they are not the bye-product of the salvation which you have received from the Lord.

So, it has to be first thing first! You must receive the good works of Christ first before your own good works can be acceptable before the Lord. If you reject the good works of salvation which Christ has brought to all humanity, then whatever good works you may think you are doing will be a waste.

In Acts 10:38, the scripture says, "... how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him."

Jesus was not just healing all those who were oppressed by the devil but he was also doing good. The good Jesus was doing and still doing up till now is the spreading of the good news (gospel) which has been bringing salvation to all humanity.

While there are many wicked people in our world today, there are also many who are willing to do good. But if you have refused to receive the greatest "Good works" of salvation which Jesus has accomplished for you and all humanity on the cross, what good do you think you can offer any man then.

If you are not a child of God through genuine regeneration (born again), you can't do any good work  that can  pass through the veil of eternity.

Even, as a child of God, you must allow your good works to flow from the leadings and directives of the Holy Spirit, else you will be missing the mark often than not.

In the year 2006, the Lord  asked me to preach the gospel to my sister while we were  walking side by side on the road. I kept on insisting that I won't, because I felt that what my sister needed at that time was money to rent a shop.

I felt that the good works my sister needed at that point in time was money to rent a shop and not the good works of salvation of her soul. I blatantly refused to preach the good news to my sister in the morning, and in the evening she died. I got to hear about the news the next day, early in the morning.

Think about it; what good works would my sister have preferred and would have been appropriate at that point in time when the Holy Ghost spoke to me to preach to her? To give her money or to preach to her? Infact, I didn't have the money then, but If I had given her the good news, she wouldn't have died (I believe), and Christ would have saved her soul as well.

This has been a very painful event on my heart since then. I will share another misfit of good works with you tomorrow.

As a believer, always do good works that show and reveal God, His kindness and His eternal purpose for man. Always let your good works flow from the leadings of the Holy Spirit and not the flesh.

THE GOOD FIGHT-2

Text:  1 Timothy  6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Another thing to pursue in fighting the good fight of faith is Godliness. We understand through the Holy scriptures that godliness is profitable unto all things.   *For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.* 1 Timothy  4:8.  You will reap the reward of your godliness not only when you get to heaven, but from here on earth. And this is why we are admonished to exercise ourselves unto godliness. (1 Timothy  4:7), because godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy  6:6. Godliness is the practice of conforming to the image of God by reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. In other words, godliness is living and portray...

IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN

Text: Matthew 4:6. He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written,   ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and,   ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’ Jesus knocked devil off with "it is written" when he came to him with the first temptation. So, the devil too decided to use "it is written" for Jesus for the second temptation.  Don't be deceived, the devil knows the scriptures too. Second Corinthians 11:14 says,  "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." So, it's no surprise when you see Satan's messengers masquerading themselves as Apostle of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14.  The word of God is perfect. Yet, many people can twist it to their advantage and ultimately to their disadvantage. A drunk, smoker, fornicator, liar and all sort can justify their sinful lifestyles with a Bible verse. See to it that you do not twist the word of Go...

WHEN GOD IS SILENT(2)

Text: Matthew 4:1  *Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.*  We saw yesterday that God was not pleased with many israelites that left Egypt for the promised land  (Corinthians 10:5).  A good percentage of the Israelites were overthrown in the wilderness.   Wilderness experience is not what any child of God desires, but it is an experience God sends or allows his children go through. In Deuteronomy 8:2, God says that He *LED* the Isrealites through the wilderness for forty years to humble them, to prove them, and to know what was in their heart whether they would keep his commandments or not.  Our Lord Jesus Christ was also *LED* into the wilderness by the Spirit of the Lord to be tempted by the devil. You will  notice there is a similar feature of the number *40(forty)* between these two wilderness experiences. That is, that of the Israelites and our Lord Jesus Christ. The Israelites spent 40years, Jesu...
